  1. Nice fish Rich. Well, if I don't see you for a few months... have a safe trip out west.
  2. Great pics Rich! Man. I gotta go fishing!!!!!!!!! Finally the weather is cooling off and I'm getting the fever. The furled leaders are great.
  3. How about a day in October or a year end get together? Just askin'
  4. FFF, Island hog!!!
  5. Sorry to hear about your dog, Pat. It's always hard to put them down. We have had two we had to put down and I still miss them. I have not been down for a few weeks and I have some family duties next weekend the 26th and 27th so I'll guess I'll shoot for Sept. A friday or Sat or both. Over the last 3 or 4 years I have met several people down there when we planned a get together. It has been fun to put a face to the name. As a matter of fact I took a friday trip last year late in the summer and started fishing by the island. I wasn't there an hour and I met saw flyfishnfool and PaolaCat that I have met in the past. It was just by coincidence we were there at the same time. We had a good time shooting the bull as we fished. Several years ago I met NoLuck, JJtroutbum, Cricket, Britsnbirds, and others. I think the get togethers have been fun and educational. I really appreciate all the help and information I have gotten for the guys on this forum. It took me 40 years to finally feel more comfortable fly fishing and it has all been from the information I have gotten here and from you guys in person. I hope we can all meet down there again even if it is the first week of catch and release. Jerry
  6. Looks like the end of the month is a little ify right now. I may have to be out of town that weekend (family deal). The Rusty midge was always on the bottom of the 2 fly rig and that's where I caught the fish. That could have been a depth issue. Anyway, I probably should have caught more on Olive, Zebra, and P and P. Hopefully we'll get together this year. Sept and Oct are open pretty much. We'll keep in touch and maybe we can get JJtroutbum to meet us down there.
  7. Well Rich, I'm just getting back to this site now that I am back at work. I took off at 11:30 on sat. I fished the morning in zone 2 and caught a few on midges and and several on Renegades and Grifiths Knats. Drys were alittle slow but mucho fun!!! Caught several real small and several really nice ones. If your secret midge is the one I think it is...well, I tried it some but got more hits on the Rusty midge. JJ, go fishing, dude!!
  8. I came down last night in a spur of the moment trip. Started by the islad at the horn. Fished the island until 12 and caught 14. Slow I thought. Fished all color size 18 midges and definately did the best on a Rusty Midge with copper bead. That was the color. Caught one on a john deer and 1 on a zebra midge. No takers on a hares ear or copper John. I fished up at the spring this evening and caught one. Really slow up there. I was trying a soft hackle that normally works pretty well up there. finally got one to come up for a Renegade. It was 104 degrees today so I napped during the hottest part of the day in the AC!!! Love the Motel AC! Yes, I'm a wuss. I'm gonna fish in the morning and head home. Not as people here as I expected. I guess the heat is keeping them away. From 4 o'clock to 6 I fished the highbank hole and caught a couple. That's probably the coolest part of the stream because there is lots shade and a breeze coming thru the bridge. People told me Olive has been the color but not for me. --Jerry
  9. Thanks for the reports guys. Makes me want to get down to the stream. I just haven't been able to get away lately. I'll make in August!!! FFF,loved the tackle box story. Now that's one I can relate to!!!..unfortunately.
  10. Very cool! He'll never forget that time. That's about the exact age I was when I first fished Bennett.
  11. I go to Charlies when I want a good opinion on line, rods, reels, flies. I think he is very knowledgeable. You will find yourself ready to kill him and run out if the store screaming after the first 30 minutes if you catch him on one of his "lecture" days.
  12. Yes Pat, The ones I tied are like the one's I bought at Charlies one time he called Harvester midges. Black or real Dark Grey bead, med olive body, black wire rib. I've done well on them sometimes. The olive thread is Light olive...not the Really light and not the dark. It was kind of hard to find the thread. I think I just found it! Danville Light Olive 060 Bass Pro item number 38-490-102-60. thats it! I usually try one of those and a dropper of some other color like black zebra or Primrose and pearl. But what do I know????
  13. I have August 26th and 27th marked on my desk calendar!!! I'll be ready for some fishing. It will be great to see some Trout fisherman again. Jerry
  14. I'd love to get down there but got lots of stuff going on here. Hope to get down in July. You guys catch a couple for me. Jerry
  15. Light Olive with black bead and wire is HOT sometimes. Which reminds me...I really need to get down there!! I have not been this year
  16. I have the TFO 7'6" 3 wt and it is a very nice rod. Action is not real fast but very smooth. I use for trout but primarily for panfish in the backyard pond. I good gill gives a nice fight for sure.
  17. Well I never made it! had to get a root canal yesterday so I'm not up to the drive. Hope those who went had a great time!!
  18. Sounds like a great time. My Dad is to old now to go so take advantage of the family get-togethers while you can.
  19. I know how you feel. I was only down once in 1957 and 2 years ago. I met several folks from this forum at Ollies for breakfast and then fished a few hours. I'm not interested in standing shoulder to shoulder but in the afternoon I found some spots were no more crowded than a summer weekend. Actually, I really need a day to get away. Way to much stress around here! Jerry
  20. Guess that's a NO.
  21. If the weather holds up OK I was thinking of going down for the opener. I probably won't join the crowd real early but I really need to get some fishing in...it's been a long winter. Anyone have plans to go? Jerry
  22. Thanks for the report, FFF Jerry
  23. Great report!! Wish I was there. What did the bow finally take?
  24. Nice pictures. thanks for posting. It will be interesting to see what the final product looks like.
