I just saw this newer type of indicator called a Thingamabobber. Has anybody used these things before? To me it looks as if it is possible you could cut your line on the metal ring. Here is the link to the Thingamabobber Later, FFM

Judicial Ruling Stops Cafo Construction In Missouri
flyfishmaster replied to wily's topic in Conservation Issues
I'm glad I'm not a farmer in Missouri, becasue this ruling is totally BS! I was born in the country and have lived around hog operations most of my life. I worked on a small dairy CATO (that was located within the city limits of a small town). Plus I have been in many hog CATOs in Southwest Illinois. So I don't get the 15-Mile radius ruling. With this ruling, a CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) is not allowed within a 15-mile radius of a Missouri state park or Missouri historic site. So lets take a closer look at this, get out a map of Missouri, pin point all state parks and historical site, then take a compass that is setup to the 15 mile radius and start drawing your circles. After you are all done. How much land is left? Was this judge pulling the info out of her rear orphus? But wait there is more, the decision to prohibit CAFOs from transporting or disposing waste from their operations within a 15-mile radius of a state park or historic site was also included. If the farmer has to change a route to transport the waste because of this 15 mile radius, guess what the price for meat, dairy and eggs will all go up. I may be thinking out of the box here, but the judge has made a huge mistake and this will cause this industry to move out of the state of Missouri. I can understand that a "bubble" should be created for these state sites, but not 15 miles. Later, FFM -
Britt, Wal-mart would have to restock their shelves if I had to buy that much thread. Plus they may have to issue me a few rains checks to boot. Later, FFM

britt, I do use the C&C thread. It cost about $1.85 w/ tax at Wal-mart for 300 yards. I think I use just over 2" per fly. So the spool will make about ..... 5400 flies at a cost of $ 0.00034359 per fly . That might be enough for a week end trip. :) Here is the Yong Special recipe PS: don't forget to spin the bobbin. bigredbirdfan, Here are my "Hill" suggestion. And both are in a reasonable family budget. (Click on the name) Favazza's Guido's As for downtown, if you mean by the stadium most places are upscale bar food. I would not suggest An American Place (went there for my anniversay a few months ago, as I was leaving I asked for a refund) It is a lot on the pricey $$$$ide plus the service was terrible. You could also try Mike Shannon's Steaks & Seafood (it is block away form the ball park). Here is link to St. Louis Downtown Eateries Later, FFM

Well that stinks. I stopped by there last fall on my way back from a Current River trip just to take a look at the place. They let us fish 2 hours for free. That was fun. It looked like they had a lot going on at one time and spending a lot, I mean a lot of money. This is very sad to hear. I hope thye are able to rebound from this if it is true. later, FFM

worm, I 97% of the time fish with some type of indicator will all my nymphs/midge pattern. I mainly use a yarn indicator because of the sensitivity. This is how I would rig a midging setup. IF the water is 2'+ deep, from the indictor down to the first fly 1', tie in a 2' section of tippet at the first fly's hook bend. Tie a second midge (1 size bigger then the top midge.) Add a weight or soft lead between the 1st and 2nd midge. And if you feel adventurous, add a second peice of tippet 1' long to the second fly and tie on a beadhead nymph. With this setup you will be covering 3 different strike zones. Here are the bad parts: - Watch your back cast, because you can cause a lot of tangles if you are too fast with your forward cast.. - Also if you break off the 1st fly you loss all three. - Watch how you land the fish. If you land them by hand, make sure you "pinch" the barns down first so the hook is easier to remove from your our fingers/hand (done this too many time to count). Landing the m by net, you will break a fly off once in a while when the fish is moving around in the webbing. Give it a shot, I bet you will see more takes and hook up later, FFM

The fish were keying in on Midges and/or spent Tricos. Yo ugot to remember a lot of the Tricos are size 30 or smaller. As Anieman also indicated. Tippet 7x or 8x is needed. A great midge pattern in sze 24 or 26 is the Yong Special. They are so simple to make. Later, FFM

I remember one day (around 2 years ago) I was in Feather-Craft at lunch time, I sat down at the fly tying table and just starting making a fly, not from a pattern or anything. After I was finished, Ed walked by and picked up the fly and said "that is one ugly fly, but I bet is will catch a dumb fish" and he walked away with it in his hand and a smile on his face. i just sat and chuckled to myself. We will all miss him dearly. As for the obit... I cannot find one either. Later, FFM

Well, apparently a carcass of a Bigfoot was found in the woods down in Georgia in late July, by an off duty police officer and a friend. I heard this on the radio the other day here in St. Louis. According to an "expect" in the field, there is a court "gage" order in place and the body will be revealed in a few weeks. Has anybody else hear of this yet? Is it just a scam or what? The article is below. later, FFM ============= Cop claims to have body of 'Bigfoot' By Daniel Silliman dsilliman@news-daily.com A Clayton County Police officer, and his friend, claim to have the body of a Bigfoot. The animal -- a legendary, hairy hominid that supposedly lives in remote forests -- is said to be dead, frozen, and "shocking." Matthew Whitton, a 28-year-old, who has been with the department for six years, and Rick Dyer, a 31-year-old former correctional officer, posted a video on youtube.com, last week, claiming to have the male Bigfoot corpse, alleged evidence that the much-hunted and often hoaxed monster, is a real, living species. The video shows black garbage bags draped over a formless hulk, and promises revelations are coming soon. "It's not a mythological creature that there's just one of," Whitton says on the Internet video. "It's a species that may be really rare, but they're actually out there breeding." Whitton and Dyer co-own bigfoottracker.com, offering exploration expeditions in the North Georgia Mountains for $499, apparently with dogs, traps and tracking techniques. Whitton, speaking to the Clayton News Daily the week before the alleged discovery, said the tracking business is an active hobby and he firmly believed in Bigfoot. He said he knew where a family of Bigfoot lived, in Georgia, and planned to lead an expedition to find them in September. On their web site the next week, Whitton and Dyer announced an alleged discovery: "We have located a family of Bigfoot, and besides the clear photos and video, we have something even more shocking, a BODY." The Clayton County Police Department responded to the news with an official statement giving the department some distance. "That's his own personal business," said Police Chief Jeff Turner. "That has nothing to do with the business of the Clayton County Police Department. As long as he's not engaged in any type of illegal activity, his business is his business." Turner said it is against department policy for any officer to represent himself or herself online, as an officer or anything other than an individual, private citizen, and said he does not know that Whitton has violated that policy. Whitton is currently on leave, recovering from a gunshot wound to his left hand during a response to a Stockbridge armed robbery earlier this month. The people who believe in Bigfoot and are searching for evidence responded to the announcement with a mixture of disbelief, ridicule and hope. The Bigfoot Field Research Organization, a California-based group claiming there have been 61 Bigfoot sightings in Georgia, officially described Whitton and Dyer as "idiots" and "clowns," and warned their claims are a scam to advertise their business. Tal H. Branco, an Arkansas man who writes a regular column about Bigfoot research, said a lot of Bigfoot people think the whole thing's a hoax, but a lot of people are hoping, too, that they do have a Bigfoot body. "Maybe Whitton did obtain the hard evidence required to solve one of the world's greatest mysteries," Branco said. "It is apparently being promoted by a police officer that has everything to lose as far as his profession is concerned, if it is a game, a hoax or just a joke. On the other hand, if it is true, and the Bigfoot body is in his custody ... his decision to announce it on an Internet web site before the body was examined by an expert certainly indicates a lack of good judgment." In one video, posted online by "RDYER678," Whitton and Dyer interview a "pathologist" who is shocked at the Bigfoot, but then, in a follow-up video, the pair admits the "doctor of pathology" is actually Whitton's brother. Standing in a kitchen, Whitton's brother says to the camera, "Live and let live. What happened to that? Guys just trying to have a little fun, you know?" Dyer said the claims are not a prank, though, and not just an attempt to have fun. Reached on his cell phone Tuesday, he insisted the body is real and will be unveiled on Sept. 1 on the web site. "Why would we jeopardize Matt's job? Why would we risk the embarrassment of the backlash that we would get? We just have a lot to lose if this is a hoax ... I thought Bigfoot trackers and hunters were ridiculous and I made fun of them, to be honest, and I still do. They know nothing as fact. We do," Dyer said. Dyer said the Internet announcement and the obvious lie were meant to draw detractors and "build hype." Other Bigfoot researchers were dismissed by Dyer, and he said he and Whitton are the best trackers because they "have a body." He said the animal is about eight-feet tall, and about equal to the size of "three silverbacks," adult male gorillas, and nothing like the reported descriptions in the books. "I've never seen anything like this," he said. "It's a lot more than animal." Dyer did not say how they came into possession of the carcass, and declined to let a news reporter look at it, but swore it was being well-preserved and would be revealed. Dyer said he and Whitton plan to sell the Bigfoot body and make a lot of money. "As of right now," he said, "we've been offered a million bucks for it, from a very credible source. But we'll make 10 times that. This will change history forever."

flyfshn, I have made a few as well just like Jeff indicated by rotating the vise a few time. To make them legal in in Zone 1 & 2 at BSSP or Zone 1 at MSP, just add few strand of white floss, yarn or Z-Lon to the hook first. Or after the glue has hardened, add some white hackle to the front of the egg(s). Have fun. later, FFM

Really nice photos. I really enjoyed the one at the "bath room" hole with the Fat kid in the black shirt with a pretty "purple Snoopy" looking pole. Plus he had a fish on to boot. I have been to MSSP a few hundred times in my life and I go to BSSP for opening day, but I don't think I could handle MSSP on opening day. What a zoo! Later, FFM

We are now starting to see the A-B cost cutting right in front of our eyes. Yesterday, A-B announced that they going to close Grants Farm on weekday and only open on weekends to save on operating expenses. Here is the site to Grants Farm This really stinks because a lot of schools and day cares visit the farm during the week so they can stay away from the weekend crowd. later, FFM PS: Thank you for the kind words BMan. I pray everyday my badge will allow me to open the door so I can work.

Channel Cats On The Fly
flyfishmaster replied to flyfisheranonymous's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
trout is right on this, you can't target them. But what I have had success with in the past is a 64th or 100th oz Yellow and Black Marabou jig. For some reason in farm ponds you can catch blue gill, bass, crappie and catfish using the same fly. There are times we have caught 4-5 catfish (ranging from 2 -8 lbs) the same day with that jig. later, FFM -
Windrush Are Trout Worms Allowed?
flyfishmaster replied to trizkid's topic in General Angling Discussion
trizkid, Windrush has multiple sections and I know the one section people use power bait, so i have to say a trout worm is fine. They have C&R, but I don't know how they regulate the rule for that. I'd give them a call at 573-743-6555. later, FFM
