2014 Ellie Hair Flyer.pdf All, We just wanted to share the news of our youngest daughter, Ellie. She has decided to shave her head for St. Baldrick’s, for childhood cancer research. (Please see attachment.) Ellie has donated her hair before to Locks of Love, but this year she has decided to go above and beyond. We are extremely proud of Ellie and wanted to share the opportunity to support her. You can donate in her name for her selfless efforts, to St. Baldrick’s. Ellie’s link is: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/719660/2014 No donation is too small. $1, $2 or as much as you can give. I talked at length with Ellie in regards to her choice. Not wanting to discourage her efforts, but to make her aware that her decision could possibly bring a little negative attention from school mates about not having any hair (at first). Ellie’s positive and “blow it off” attitude is amazing. Her response was that she would just walk away from anyone that would make any mean comments to her. I think that her ability to be so caring and so loving is admirable and really fills my heart with pride. It take a lot of courage to do what she is doing. She understands that it will take YEARS for her hair to grow back. She is okay with that. We also welcome you to come out to NO-JACKS in Smithon, IL to support her, the day she is getting her hair shaved. The event starts at 2:00pm, on Saturday, April 26th. Thank you in advance for your support in our little girl’s courageous efforts! Kim & Lyn Ahne aka: Flyfishmaster

My plan all week long was to make Open Day at Bennett Springs, but my project in Springfield ended early so I was able to head back east on Friday, so I hit the Current River in instead on the Eve of Open Day at Montauk. My expectation was that the river was going to be crowded, but I was surprised to have a lot of room to fish (until 10:30 am) in the Tan Vat area. I catch fish steadily throughout the morning on multiple nymph variations. Then around 10:30 – 11 those skipping caddis starting to hit the water. The remaining part of the day I used dry flies. At 12ish, I left the Tan Vat lot (since there were 13 vehicles there) and moved down to Baptist Camp (only one other car). The Caddis hatch was still going strong with fish raising frequently. This is my first trip to the Current that I have to say I catch 4 times more fish on dry files than I did on the nymphs. I left around 3:30, as the Baptist Camp lot started to fill up as well. But left the Current very pleased since the fish mutilated 6 of my dry flies and the quality of the fish was above my expectations as well. So hope everyone that stayed for Open day had fun. 2013 -2014 Catch And Release
flyfishmaster replied to upstream's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I was only able to make it down to BSSP on the very last day of catch and release. There were very few people there as well. I did catch a decent number of fish with one really of size to talk about. A 20" male rainbow down in Zone #3, all the rest were in the 6" - 12" range. One observation I noticed in zone #3 is all the moss. It is everywhere and thick. It is going to be rough for the bait fishermen down there. Later, FFM -
Congrats MIC ! I may see you around the Creve Coeur area, I'm just a few blocks away at Oakwood Systems. Later, FFM

Mark, I was at Cardiac on Oct 25th. It was the first time there in 3+ years. I was expecting to get skunked but ended up landing 8 rainbows ranging from 12" - 18" (only one 18"). I did not know what to think since the high water over the last two years and the holes changed drastically from what I remembered as well. but I did find fish activity in a few locations, but had to walk a lot (to say the least). There was a hatching going one at 10 AM but ZERO fish raising. I did not see any browns at all. I landed fish on 6 different files, but changed rigs too many times to count. The key around the log jams is GO DEEP! I rigged my indicated about 2' deeper than I normally go and it worked (to my surprise). Oh, and those jet boats did not help me at all either. Later, FFM

Anybody Heading Down To Bssp On Aug 3 & 4
flyfishmaster posted a topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Yo everyone, I have not been on OAF for some time, since I rarely get time to fish anymore. But the Kitchen Pass has a rubber stamp approval for this weekend and I heading down to BSSP with some of my buddies. They will be fishing in Zone 3 but I will most likely be in Zone 2 (below the bridge) or up in Zone 1 close to the gauge house. How else may be in the area those days? Later, FFM -
Phil and all other OAF Founders, First off congratulations and thank you for creating a very user friendly and enjoyable forum site for all of us that love being in the Ozark outdoors! As you already know your web page counter is just a few thousand away from hitting 20 million, that is an incredible accomplishment. So let’s all give it up to for the Forum Founders! Thanks again, FFM

dam, I can only speak for myself and friends, but the hook size we use is 16 or 18. We typically only use a few colors: • White • Red • Orange • Peach • Red/White The key to using the egg is keeping on the bottom. You have to have it bouncing off the rocks to get hits. If it is floating higher in the water column, you are just "fishin" not "catchin". I hope this helps you out. Later, FFM

I went fishing this past weekend in our 4 acre pond and caught many of these very different looking fish. They look like a hybrid between a crappie and bluegill. They are twice as wide as the normal bluegill in the pond. Take a look and tell me what you think. If they are cross bred, should I have any concerns or just let it go? (I did not know my fish where cross breeders, not that there is anything wrong with that.) later, FFM

Free Watertender (Dinghy, Row Boat, Fishing Boat)
flyfishmaster posted a topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
I posted this back in Oct, but nobody took up the free offer, so here it is again. I have for free to the first people to come and pickup a Watertender 9.4 Row Boat made by KL Industries. I have it for free, because it was partially submerged in a local pond. I fished it out and let it air out for over two months. The nice white color is not there anymore and it is covered with dried/baked on moss (almost like a natural camo color. Also, since the pontoons come to a point/ridge on the bottom it appears the previous owner drugged it across a lot of concrete or gravel. The front edges of the pontoons have been scraped open and some tried (unsuccessfully) to patch the pontoon. Here is a link to the WaterTender's website for any details. http://www.mysportboats.com/klwatertender94.html So the total cost for you is the gas to pick it up and 30 seconds to load it. PM me if you are interested. FYI: I live in Waterloo IL. later FFM -

Albert... it was nice having you around for the prime of your baseball career. But it has been a struggle the last two years seeing you hit into a record # of inning ending Double Plays. Enjoy that DH role buddy. Later, FFM

"Simlcsf&yamkh" That is funny in text form, but had to miserable being there to see it all go down. Later, FFM -
So the video was quite entertaining What gets me is this paragraph: "The Missouri Conservation Commission has approved a regulation change banning the use of porous-soled waders or footwear incorporating or having attached a porous sole of felted, matted, or woven fibrous material when fishing in trout parks and other specific trout waters. Pending public comment through the Secretary of State’s office, the new regulation will go into effect March 1, 2012, the opening day of catch-and-keep fishing at Missouri’s four trout parks" It is still "Pending Public Comment", what the heck does that mean? So if a fish is following/chasing the fly without taking it, would that fish be classified as a "Chubbie Chaser". Enquiring minds need to know. Later, FFM

Blue Springs Creek - Fishing Report 9-25
flyfishmaster replied to mic's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
I agree there is always a diamond in the rough. Back in 2007 at BSC I was fishing the Big Root wad corner hole and located a big fish. I tied on one of my "sloppy balls" and first cast that fish slowly went down and picked it up. After only a 30 second fight I landed a 17" rainbow. Something was not right about this fish, it did not give me much of a fight at all. But for the stream tha was huge fish. Is it possible somebody was able to keep a fish alive from another stream and transport this fish to BSC? One of these days (after kids soccer and cheerleading is over) I will make it back to the streams. Later, FFM
