  1. Untill the pressure on the waders makes the bag back flow
  2. If you will be solo all the time you might want to look at kayaks. They are easy to manuver and now I think they have models that are stable enough to stand on. I'm thinking of getting a sit on top model. I have a 17' whitewater canoe but I dont think I would try it by myself its just to much work.
  3. Man if that salmon fly was his first attept I dont have a chance. I could tie 1000 of those and they would not look anything close to that.
  4. Im not sure but you might want to look into a spey rod. But I dont know much about rods at all, much less the offshore kind.
  5. great video! wish I could have been there
  6. Just pay attention where you use the live or power bait. Above fall creek live bait, powerbait, and soft or sented plastics not allowed. If you use these baits be ready to keep what you catch because these baits are fairly terminal for the trout. If you are fishing by boat there is a sign at fall creek letting you know that only hand tied or artificial lures only.
  7. Well yesterday it looked like I was going to be able to make it but my 16 mth old came down with a double ear infection, I got a massive sinus infection last night, and my 4 mth old was admitted to childrens mercy last night. Needless to say I have a little bit too much going on again. I think there may be some mysterious force keeping me away from the lake.
  8. You may access it from both sides. On the South just before you get to the dam and just after the State park there is a trun off to the east. Take that past the dam overlook and down the hill you find parking lots. I think most people use the hatchery side though. As you enter the hatchery there will be two drives one going into the visitor center and the other going down to the outlets. Depending on when you go this will be crowded. If your looking for less of a crowd as you enter the hatchery follow the road to the left and take it down past the the boat ramp and there are trails that will take you down to a set of stairs to the lake.
  9. Thanks for the info. I've made the hike several times in the water and in my waders(of coarse) and it takes alot out of a guy. Maybe I will try packing the waders and rod and hike down there first. Hey what are your hours for the next week? Do you have any special hours for new years?
  10. Question for those who think the underage drinking on the rivers and the campgrounds is not the responsibility of the outfitter. How is it any different if a parent allows an underage drinking party than for an outfitter to profit by allowing it on his/her property. The biggest problem I have is the underage drinkers. Granted some of the older ones cause some problems as well but for the most part I've noticed the young ones doing it. Outfitters knows this goes on but doesnt do a thing about it. If a parent had a few underage drinkers over to the house supervised and everyone knew about about the party it would be all over the news. Everyone knows this goes on in thses campgrounds but just look the other way, I know I used to be a underage drinker. The outfitter wouldnt sell to me but the guy over 21 behind me could and just hand it to me. So in a way the outfitters are responsible for it. I'm also not saying that all outfitters are like this I just have one in mind right now. Its gotten so bad down there that there is no grass and the campground is wall to wall tents, cars, campers, and minors drinking by the hundereds. My waterpatrol should do a sting on the campgrounds some Friday and Saturday night. Now I know some of you will say what are they hurting but the bottom line is it is illegal.
  11. Does that trail out the parking lot go down to Point Royal? I've never taken it past the KOA area.
  12. Just got the word that I wont be able to make it again. For some reason haveing two babies and not able to go out all year she wants to go out for new years eve. One of these days I might be able to make it down there again. Havent made it down there since last Feb.
  13. Hang on now Chief I dont want anymore politics involved. I want the people to control the issue. If we start giveing business to responsible outfitters that sone some simple things to make the float more enjoyable for everyone then the laws that are set into place already will work fine.
  14. Explosives have no realistic recreational use? I'll agree that they should not be accessable but boy do I like blowing crap up every now and then and i consider that recreational. I'll just stick with the legal fireworks for now tho.
  15. Its not the small outfitter that is the problem. They do a good job with their buisness I think. Ive never had a problem in the smaller rental places or with the patrons on or off the river. Its the big rental places that are the problems. I will not evan think of floating the Niangua anymore because of one outfitter alone and the mess their campground is and they way people from their campground act on the river. I really dont think that if they were to restrict the underage drinking they would lose any business. Well maybe at first cus I belive thats the majority of their business. But if they were to become a good outfitter again (at one time it was a great place to go) the good people will come back and they might not have to have the security gaurds anymore. Thats a big flag for me if their is a need for 24 hour security on the weekends I will find somewhere else to go.
  16. Most of the outfitters do sell beer so they do have a lisence to sell alcohol. And when they bus them up stream on their busses under their insurance they do have the right to deny access. An outfitter permitting an underage person to to drink on their property is the same as a resturant or bar permiting underage drinking in their establishment. I relize that this is hard to patrol but it goes along with owning a business its called responsibility. An easy way for them to put the responsibility on the patrn is to have someone over the age of 21 to register them for the rental or canoe and campsite, sort of like a gardian that takes responsibility for the actions of the underaged. Something as simple as that doesnt require more laws just the outfitters to do something besides sitting back takeing all the money they can and ignoreing what they know is going on. If the outfitters could limit the number of underage dirnkers on the river the water patrol could concentrate on other issues such as drug use and so on. The bottom line is we have all the laws we need to solve the problem but the enforcement side needs help from the public to help prevent the crimes before they are crimes.
  17. Hey Dano I suggest a remmenton 870 express marine mag. Its a real sharp looking gun nickel plated with black synthetic stock and extended magizine. If I had the money thats what I would get. Ive been looking at them for about two years now. The original Model 870™ Marine Magnum® set the standard for all-weather reliability, and our latest upgrade to its design launches it beyond the capabilities of any shotgun out there. Featuring the extreme corrosion and abrasion resistance of our proprietary Black TriNyte® Corrosion Control System, the 12-gauge Model 870™ XCS (Xtreme Conditions Shotgun) Marine Magnum will serve and protect in the most extreme conditions on earth. For even more rugged endurance, all internal metal parts are coated with electroless nickel, and the trigger group is plated to resist fouling and oxidation. The tactical-style SpeedFeed® I stock works to tame the recoil of even the most potent 2 3/4" or 3" magnum rounds. The stock is equipped with a shell holder to keep up to four extra rounds at your fingertips. Match these features with a 7-round capacity and 18" cylinder bore barrel, and you have the ultimate special-purpose firearm. Anywhere, anytime – count on it. Model 870™ XCS Marine Magnum® Features TriNyte® Corrosion Control System on barrel and receiver creates an armor-tough barrier against rust and abrasion Its Model 870 action is the rugged standard for dependability and smooth operation 18" cylinder bore, bead-sighted barrel 2-shot magazine extension – 7-shot capacity SpeedFeed® I stock with shell holder keeps 2-4 extra rounds at your fingertips Corrosion-resistant trigger group with plated components Durable synthetic stock and fore-end includes sling swivel studs
  18. I agree with flysmallie if someone has the intention bad enough they will do what it takes to get it done. But I also think that there needs to be regs on assult rifles is some manor. I dont belive that things need to be kept away from good people to keep it away from the bad. If that were the case maybe we should take away cars and trucks and everyone should ride bicycles to where they need to go to keep the drunks, and the people that dont pay attention from killing someone.
  19. I really dont see it as a burdon but as a way to generate a little more revenue for the outfitters and maybe reduse the number of excessively drunk people on the rivers and the camp grounds after. That is till they get back and hit the booze they have in camp. I dont think that an extra 12 to 18 bucks a person is going to detuer the people that float the river for the bueaty and the fishing. I mean come on first six is free add 12 thats 18 add six more thats 24. The people that take 24 beers per person might as well sit at the campsie and drink cus thats the only thing they are there for. These are the people that dont care for the river or the river system(and I not saying all of them are like this). Any one takeing a case of beer for an 8 hour float is there for one thing. I mean come on three beers an hour thats quite a bit no matter how much anyone thinks they could drink. And money wise its still cheaper than going out to the bars. Two nights camping 12 bucks, canoe rental 30 bucks divided by 2=15 bucks, 18 extra beers 18 bucksfor a total of 45 bucks for for an 8 hour tour. Night at the bars 24 beers 72 dollars alone for only 3 to 5 hours and not to mention the fancy bus to take you back to the campground is not included in the bar tab.
  20. Heres an idea maybe the renting outfits could charge a excessive beer charge. Any more than a sixpack per person a buck a beer. If you take out the beer in this equasion you will get rid of the rest of the problems. I think it would be great if it would work the outfitters get more money, less drunks, less boobs(honestly I kind of liked that part). I know it would never work but I just thought I would help come up with ideas instead of yacking about the problem.
  21. I think a line of boulders just above MDC boat ramp would be nice.
  22. I was haveing the same problem till two days ago. Now everything seems fine
  23. I dont think the media will touch a topic like this anymore. Anymore the media is after government and business owners.(in Kansas City anyway) I think the first thing that should be done is to light up the area by the boat ramp. I know alot of people on here have fished nights and it is very dark down there at night. I for one have fished down there at night before and after a few hours got tired and went up to take a nap. I did not know anything about this sort of thing in the area and will not make that mistake again(esp. now that Phill informed me that it is illegal to do so).
  24. Not much of a point but more of an observation. The outlet debates have guys from both sides one defending and the other saying how they dont like to fish there and there should be rules against it. This just sounds kind of like that.
  25. This kind of sounds like the fishing the outlet on tany debates.
