...and the pictures did not show up here for some reason

I took a long awaited trip to Bariloche, Argentina in the Patagonia region and absolutely loved it. We spent a week fishing from Dec 28 to Jan 4. We were there during a time that the biggest fish were in the lakes rather than in the rivers, but we still caught plenty of fish. Getting there is a long process, but once there, it is very affordable if you are more of a do it yourselfer. We hired guides for a day on the Limay and one day on the Manso rivers and then fished on our own on a number of wadeable rivers. The guides are first rate. www.troutbariloche.com By the way, the food there is second to none. If you have ever wanted to go, I would be happy advise you how to do it much cheaper than you might have imagined. I posted a couple of pictures here, but a lot more can be found on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/brian.sloss.5

and 63 years of the river changing

Call Sunburst. Kelly ford to Sunburst and then Sunburst to their lodge just above Dawt Mill. Stoneflies and other nymphs fished deep along with some streamers. You will want to wade some, but be careful, there are a lot of slick spots on that river. Have fun

Start looking to the tribs of the Great lakes. Pere Marquette and a number of good rivers inside 3-4 hours from the Michigan border

11/5/16 fishing/National Geographic-like experience
Brian Sloss posted a topic in Eleven Point River
So while doing a guided fishing trip today, I witnessed the coolest National Geographic type moment ever. As the first fish of the day was landed just across from the Greer boat ramp, we heard loud crashing noises at the top of the ridge on the south side of the river. We all look to the crashing sound and down from the top of the ridge, a doe comes running like a bat out of hell towards the river with a large coyote right on its heels. The doe dives into the river about 25 yards from the drift boat. The coyote turns back at the rivers edge and retreats up the ridge. The doe had a cut on its muzzle, indicating a battle before reaching the safety of the water. By the way, fishing was pretty good. My guys were first time fly fishers and caught around 25 rainbows including a 17 incher and a 17.5 incher and one 20+incher that was hooked and lost. -
Normally it is good then, but that is a long way out to say 100%.

Great 11 Point River canoe/kayak race and Fun Float

Thanks Phil -
You definitely catch those every now and then out there, but not often. Not much of a fight in my experience, but neat to catch something different. That is a big one by the way

The stocking schedule is back on track, they have been here every other week since the hatchery issues were resolved, stocking the white ribbon area. They are probably still a little behind, but will probably stock later in the year than normal. Our biggest issue down in the white ribbon area is everyone keeps a limit of fish and more people have boats than they used to. 20 years ago most people couldn't get off work at 5 and motor up or down river and limit out in an hour, but now more people can and do. They need to up the numbers they stock down there or more anglers need to limit what they keep. Not scientific, just an opinion. They were out stocking this week. I am sure the electro shock results were fine, it has been fishing pretty good on the upper part and frankly I have had good and not so good reports on the white ribbon area depending on who was fishing and when in relation to the stocking truck they fished.

Than a one legged man...but the trout fishing is good from Greer to Riverton now

If you ask a local about the spot Mark is referring to, call it fish dam and they will know what you are talking about.

You should not have a hard time finding space in a float camp, but you don't have to use them. I sell flies, leaders, tippet, etc

If you can afford it, hire a guide once or twice and take the opportunity to learn as much as possible. That could really help your learning curve. Ask lots of questions about different times of the year and conditions.

We had a big flood this past winter and it changed a few things, but the river looks fine now. Those who know the river really well will notice the changes,. but others won't notice any difference

Took Willie, a Louisiana turkey hunter in Missouri for the season, on a guided trip Thursday. The river has been fishing poorly for trout most of the spring, with a few exceptions. Our day was hopefully a good sign of things to come. Willie landed over 20 fish and lost around 10 more. We had to get about a mile from the access points to do much good and we had to really take our time to find hotspots, but when we did, we were rewarded. We had our best luck on Pat's rubber legged golden stone and prince nymphs fished deep. Willie's biggest fish landed was a 17.5 inch fatty. A number of smaller, probably 1-2 year old wild fish were caught as well. Also, we lost another fish in the 17-18 inch range. Good day. I was supposed to be on the water today, but we are expecting over 2 inches of rain in the form of thunderstorms today, so I had to cancel. Rain expected to start around 10 am here.

It has somewhat, they got one stocking in on the white ribbon area. They had to bring the fish from Bennett Springs I think as they have been waiting for test results at Montauk. There has been a disease scare there. I don't know any more about that though.

Took a guide trip out yesterday, Adam from KC. We ran Turner to Whitten. Fishing was outstanding in the morning, with probably 20 fish landed, the biggest was a fat female of close to 17 inches. After lunch, the fishing dropped off a lot, with only 2 or 3 landed and a couple others hooked. The most effective technique proved to be fishing a white/grey, 1/16thoz marabou jig under and indicator about 5 ft, on a fly rod. Pat's rubber legged stone caught a few as well. Threw a couple different streamer patterns as well, but only hooked one that way. Great guy to spend the day on the river with.

Some friends and I are going to Argentina next winter to fish the Patagonia region in the Bariloche area. I know this may be a long shot, but was wondering if anyone here has any experience in this area. We are fishing the Limay and Manso with guides and are driving around to do some fishing on our own as well. The guide suggested a smaller river for wading one day, the Pichileafu. Anyone been there and discover an off the beaten path river we can hit while we are there? We will probably fish the lake one day as well.

Fishing has been slow for sure lately. The only good reports I have had lately have been on the upper river (Thomasville to Greer). Smallmouth have been hitting during the warmer parts of the day up there. There are a few stray trout up there, but mostly it is samllmouth that are being caught there with maybe a trout or two. They have not stocked this year from Turner to Riverton yet so I called the other day. There is a problem on the Montauk end, but should be sorted out soon. No, I don't know exactly when.

Maybe this week for the flood, not the stocking.

Fishing has been so, so lately. Try some other places on the river. I am scouting one of the lower stretches for upcoming guide trips. Some of the trout have moved upstream between Cane Bluff and Greer over the winter as well. I think you give much credence to the flood ruining the population. They were fine right after the flood, though the fishing has declined in the last 3-4 weeks or so.

We have ice now, but take heart, we are expecting 60-70 degree weather later in the week and through the weekend. Might be good for fishing?
