Plenty of places to camp, check back closer to the trip and depending on water levels, we will know how far upstream you can start. At the very least, you can start at Greer and go down. Being a wet year, you might be able to start at Cane Bluff.

The 11 Point sees considerably less traffic than the Current, so you should be fine there. Of course if you are out here on a Sat, you will see more people. We do have jet boats (25 horse max), but they are thickest on weekends and most are polite with them. What are you looking to fish for? That will help determine the route you should take.

If this continues, I could easily see them cutting off a lot of the access and would not blame them. If they did, a lot of people would get a taste of what would happen if the ONSR were sold off to private landowners. They would have very little access anymore.

Floods are natural and change the river, sometimes good in areas and bad for another, but the frequency is higher now and it is widening the rivers from what I can tell.
-
The higher frequency of floods has made some shoals on the 11 Point wider and shallower for sure. I've noticed that over the last 11 years for sure. You really notice it during dry periods. I pretty much agree with Al's original post.

If you fish, hunt, hike or camp in the Ozark outdoors chances are you have crossed land this man preserved so we could enjoy it. We all owe him thanks. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/obituaries/leo-drey-dies-missouri-s-largest-private-landowner-until-he/article_736f1bd8-6103-5202-aad0-7f74cb8f9234.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

The Great Eleven Point River Canoe Race: Just a reminder to everyone that the race will be held on Sept 26, though we need people to try and register by Aug 26 so we can plan ahead. This will benefit the work we are doing to restore the Greer Mill. Race will be from Greer to Riverton (20 miles) and the fun float will be from Whitten to Riverton (8miles). The band, BBQ, beer/soda tent and raffle will start soon after the race at the canoe rental. I hope a lot of you out there will consider joining in. Details at www.11pointcanoe.com or call us with questions or to register at 417-778-6497. I know this not fishing, but I hope some of you will have an interest. We will need raffle items if anyone wants to donate by the way

It was great meeting you guys, glad the trip went well.

I don't see smallies getting forced out of habitat by trout (obviously an unscientific observation). An example is Greer spring on the 11 Point. During the spring, summer and early fall trout are by far the dominant species at the spring mouth. Once the weather changes in the fall and the winter starts to set in, the smallies move in and the trout run away. I have fished 3 out of 4 days during that transition and the rapid change was amazing. First day we caught about 60/40 trout to smallmouth, 2nd that raito reversed and on the third it was 80/20 smallies to trout. A week later you might catch one or two trout all day in that hole and everything else was smallies.

Took Keller from the Cape on a guide trip today. We hit the blue ribbon section and the fishing was pretty good. Pat's rubber legged stones were by far the fly of the day. He caught a number of smaller wild trout from 6-11inches. The big bonus though was an 18 inch and 21 inch fat rainbows. The pics do not do them full justice. Good day and great company. Pics, though not the best, are on my facebook page as I always screw up loading them. https://www.facebook.com/groups/102606856450001/

A cabin on trout water (blue ribbon at that), location alone would have sold by now I would think. Downside is its location to Tan Vat, but not like there are a lot of options on the water down there. I am more surprised the campground has not sold, there is a lot of potential to turn that into a cabin rental place with further investment or build and sell them.

Because I always have problems loading pics, here is a link to the canoe rental facebook page where I posted pics from the fish sample in the blue ribbon area this Wed. https://www.facebook.com/groups/102606856450001/The best news of the day is number of yearling wild trout is higher than I have ever seen for this river. Being 10 months out from our last stocking, overall numbers are down as they normally are in the spring. Got some hogs in the sampling as well.

Heck, even stream teams could be impacted. A boy scout troop (nonprofit) decides to form a stream team, are they going to be able to work with the MDC? Just another horrible bill which seems to be happening at a record pace this year.

mind numbingly stupid. Partnerships like this one https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mill-Creek-Watershed-Coalition/475694925817958?fref=ts at Mill Creek that do things like habitat improvements without having to use state funds, but benefit the public, would be ruined. Talk about value, improve fishing for the public at a cost of zero dollars to the public. I thought those guys liked not having to pay for stuff with tax dollars? Our nonprofit on the 11 Point is working with the forest service on a project, but may partner with the conservation dept in the future if this law does not ruin that. Stupid!

There is a lot of water, you might be better off floating upriver sooner than down river. Cane Bluff to Greer. There is a big tree down just below Long Hollow around a blind curve you have to portage around on the gravel bar. It will probably fish better next weekend than this one as Mark said due to flows though.

2nd ANNUAL GREAT 11 POINT RIVER CANOE RACE. I am excited to officially announce that we be will having the 2nd annual canoe race on Sat Sept 26, hosted by the Eleven Point Canoe Rental and the Friends of the Eleven Point River. Full details can be found @ http://11pointcanoe.com/then click on the canoe race icon. There is a printable sign up sheet you can use or you can call me to ask questions @ 417-778-6497 and sign up that way. Just as we did last year, this race will also raise money for the GREER MILL restoration. Every person's entry fee will be all inclusive, including a donation to the mill project via Friends of the Eleven Point River and 5 $1raffle tickets.. Between the donation and the raffle tickets, that means a total of $25 of each person's entry fee will go straight to the mill project. Entry fees are $90/person. Also included will be a BBQ, beer/soda(post race only),live music, camping (space limited at canoe rental) and use of one of our canoes or shuttle of one of yours. The race will be from Greer to Riverton (2o miles) and for those who want to enter but don't want to race, a fun float from Whitten to Riverton will start soon after the start of the race. Please consider coming out for a great time that supports a great cause. Also, this is not the most serious of races, so all skill levels of paddlers are encouraged to participate!

another great bill (sarcsm) goes to committee in Mo House

Just read another report that it may die in committee, but I am keeping my eye on this one. -
another great bill (sarcsm) goes to committee in Mo House

She said the bills author kept saying it wouldn't change anything and is not changing any laws and that begs the question of why do it if it does not change anything? Of course it does contradict the Eldor v Delcour case which is what is used today. It tries to cripple regs on pollution as well by changing the power over to the land owners. She seemed to think the other committee members were just taking his word for everything, though the language in the bill says differently. -

Update on hb 955. Just talked to the lobbyist for the Missouri Canoe and Floaters Association and got a bad feeling from her. She said all but one committee member were pretty hostile to the overwhelming lack of support for the bill (by the public) and that there is a good chance it will move out of committee. Though it may well be something that Nixon would veto, they can always attach it to another bill that the Gov needs to get passed and force his hand, if in fact he is opposed to hb 955. -

and your rep said what?... -
I called my senator and talked to his rep. He would not say what they were going to do, just that the bills were in committee. I let him know that I was opposed to them all, hopefully that means something.

Head up to anyone wanting to fish over here. We are expecting 6-11 inches of snow starting tonight. Our roads to places like Turner and Whitten stay in pretty poor shape for a while after a snow as the gravel roads don't get much attention. be careful.

Take he time to contact your local office if you don't think they are helpful and I think you will find a more responsive operation than many people will believe. I deal with the West Plains office because they handle my home water, the 11 Pt. They have allowed me to go on multiple fish samples and have been very open about projects they are working on. They have been open to listening to my and others ideas, even if they did not always take them and run with it, but they always had a sensible reason forit and would explain their reasons. It is a good department that Mo should be proud of. Not perfect, but they do a lot of good and should be left alone to continue.
