I have been crossing my fingers for years to get a booking of bikinis for my drift boat. I am jealous...and the video was ok too.

Low River, Quality Fish
Brian Sloss replied to Justin Spencer's topic in North Fork of the White River
Had a great time as well, I'll post a pic of my fish this evening. There were some beautifully colored fish today, but man that water is low. I hope we get a good rain soon. -
props or jets?

Thanks to everyone who participated in this years Fly Flingers weekend. We reached our goal and have enough money to build a wader cleaning station at Greer. This will help prevent the spread of Didymo or other invasive elements to our watershed. It was great seeing everyone, I had a ball. Also, thanks again to those who donated to the raffle. Looking forward to next time

I got rained on until about 2 while on the river today. Frankly we need more rain, not less. Today's rain won't do much. We are doing our fly flingers weekend and it won't effect it.

Looks like about a dozen people right now, a little lighter than normal turn out, but a much better chance at one of the rods at the BBQ. Mic, it is an open social event for fly fishers on the Eleven Point where we try to raise a little money for a cause. This year we are trying to raise money for a wader cleaning station at Greer to help prevent didymo from spreading from the White to our river. We fish the Blue ribbon area on Sat (this weekend) and a portion of all canoe rentals and money raised at the following free BBQ raffle will go to the cause. Call if you want to come @ 417-778-6497.

Quick Report From Thursday/ Friday (13-14.oct.11)
Brian Sloss replied to zonker's topic in Eleven Point River
Glad you had a good trip, see you next time. -
Tito wasn't there.

I have a green, wooden drift boat, no rumble fish and no tunes. Didn't see the boat you are referring to either.

Having entered the month of Oct, we are in what we think of as the slower part of the season for canoeing as outfitters on the Eleven Point. I am now in the busy guiding season though. During this time of year we do operate, but you do need to call ahead and reserve canoes or shuttles, especially on weekdays as I am on stream most days and will need to make arrangements with our staff who only work part time through the off-season.

I honestly have not run the Cane Bluff run in a while since it is low. I had a few floaters fish it about 5-6 weeks ago with mixed results. I am amazed how tight they can get to cover though in low water. But like I said, I have not been up there lately.

There are a lot of people hitting the river lately and it is getting pressured harder than normal. That said we have been hitting fish pretty well lately. My trip today had plenty of fish and the one Sat caught a fair number of fish as well. Granted the catch was off a little, but we had a lot of first timers, including 3 under 12, so that was not the best barometer. Plus we also saw a few floatillas which we never see in Oct! Marabou jigs have been doing very well lately. Rubber legged stones, prince nymphs and crawdad patterns have done well also. Woolie buggers in olive did well today. It is definitely getting pressured more than normal for this time of year and that does have an effect. Caught someone stringing up an undersized trout today and had to get the guy to release it, which sucks. All that said, if you come back through the week or when it cools down keeping more people off the river, I bet you will get a different result.

I can't believe that no one has scooped up that campground yet, there is a lot of potential there for someone who is willing to put the time and some money into it (ie maybe a few cabins). A tackle shop/fly shop out of the main shop + the campground potential revenue. There is so little real estate in Missouri with that close a location to blue ribbon water (across a gravel road)not to mention the trout park. At the very least I am surprised no one has bought as a personal vacation spot.

Recent Trip To 11 Point Fishing Report
Brian Sloss replied to wacky worm's topic in Eleven Point River
I remember that canoe! I think we past by you guys at Little Hurricane shoals during a guide trip. Glad you had a good time. -
The body is pheasant dubbing with a gold bead and rubber legs.

een guiding more lately and the fishing has been good. The last three trips have produced well on 3 different things each day. The common denominator has been fishing deep and at the back end of the shoals, though we have been getting them through the heart of the shoals as well, just more at the end where the river deepens. The first trip was grey and white 1/16th oz marabou jigs, 2nd trip was all about the Don's crawdad, and yesterday the stonefly ruled. The Hex nymph has produced, but the way it normally does this time of year. They are around, but the fish have not been as aggressive to them as they usually are this time of year. All three trips have produced between 40-60 fish with a few 16-17 inchers in there and 2 18 inchers landed. We had one very large trout hooked that was not landed yesterday on the stonefly.

If you are planning on coming to the fly flingers event, you may want to reserve lodging if you need it soon as it will be be booking up. Plenty of camping though and there are other places to stay as well if our cottages are booked. Let me know and I will turn you on to them. Hendrix Outdoors has donated a couple of rods and gear to the mix now as well. Phil Lilly, our gracious host, has offered up a spinning rod as well. Lots of good options for the raffle this year.

Canoe Recommendation
Brian Sloss replied to darbwa's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
If you are going with an old town, see if you can find a used Discovery that is lightly used and clean from at least 7-8 years ago or more. They will last a long time if they are in good shape. In more recent years the construction quality has gone down dramatically. The plastic is thinner and they delaminate and bubble more often. The last time we got some, half of them cracked on the interior layer of plastic inside of two months. The versatility of the design is as good as I have seen in the industry, they just decided to stop building them well anymore. Common in a lot of industries I'm afraid. Wenonah is building a good canoe and Nova Craft has a stout boat. -
See Superfly and Gavin's list and you are pretty well set, though this time of year I would add hex nymphs and golden stones to the list, at least until the end of Sept.

Felt Soled Waders Banned In Mo Trout Waters!
Brian Sloss replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
I gave up felt two years ago and it did kind of suck at first, but then I reminded myself that I did just fine for years before felt and got over it. I don't even miss felt anymore. I am happy with the move to ban felt. If it makes us even a little less likely to get that nasty stuff in our rivers, it is well worth it. -
Just a reminder that our Fall Fly Flingers event will be on Sat Oct 22 this year. The money raised will go toward putting a wader and wading boat cleaning station at the Greer access to help prevent the spread of Didymo into our water shed. Didymo is currently found in the White river in Arkansas about an hour and a half away from here and this will help prevent its spread to our river. Didymo is an invasive algae that totally covers the rocks and can dramatically hurt the insect population that lives in the rocks that the fish feed on. Didymo is not here and we would like to keep it that way. We will be fishing the Blue ribbon area on the 22nd followed by a free BBQ with a raffle. The proceeds of the raffle and a portion of any rented canoes and vehicle shuttles will go to the cause. More info is available at www.11pointcanoe.com. We do need reservations for this event so we can plan the BBQ. Thanks.

Ditto what Justin said, but I would buy an older Old Town that was in good shape in a minute for the right price. The Discoveries and Expeditions (same boat, different label) made in the last few years are not constructed well at all.
