Thanks much for posting that link. I'm forwarding to a buddy who got "cleaned out" really bad on Baxter Dock back in April. Maybe he can I.D. some things. Hope they put this scum away in the big house for a long, long time and his cellmates enjoy his company.....

I am nowhere near that part of the Lake and never go there or I would do it but how about this suggestion....... Maybe your Bass club members could get some reflective tape from Lowe's or Home Depot or where ever you can find it and strap it or staple it or nail it to that exposed tree trunk...... ? Surely, after the tragic loss of a life even the Corps wouldn't object to that ? Other submerged islands have buoy's like at the mouth of the James or Goat Island so what is their problem with this location ? We used to mark underwater, barely submerged, tree trunks in the back of Big Indian with empty gallon milk jugs tied to the trees with short pieces of trot line twine and they would show up pretty good at night and would float up with higher water and then simply hang by the handes when the water levels went down. People thought they were jug fishermen's abandoned sets but they were for safety and saved countless lower units.

I think I found the two pieces in the Automotive section. Pretty sure it was from the Berryville AR store. But that was about three/four years ago and you know how Wal Mart never carries the same thing twice !! You might try a Lowe's or Home Depot too or an Auto Parts store. This whole thing is just getting ridiculous and out of control with these thieves and the tournaments seem to really draw them.

Bluegill/sunfish like to peck at the bubbles on swimmer's legs or body where body hair traps the air. Those Brown or Painted water snakes are darn curious and will swim right up to you while you are in the water and scare the bejeesus out of you. They'll also approach your boat while fishing and I've had to splash the end of the rod in the water at them to shoo them off. I'm not seeing as many of them this year as in years previous. That pollution problem at Lake Ozark has probably been going on for years, especially in party cove. Hope they all don't start coming to TR instead, we are already seeing more of those enormous boats here over the past few years. That's one of the few good things about this lousy economy, the show-off's can't afford to buy them. I did read an on-line article in the Post-Dispatch that said business was way down at Lake Ozark even before the delayed e-coli information was released. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stor...E7?OpenDocument Makes you wonder about our "public servants" in Jeff. City.....

Absolutely ! Got mine three years ago at Wally World. It's a two part deal to make it long enough to a.) reach over and go around the dock framework and b.) to not stress the bow eye and glass if the boat lift get's "accidentally lowered". Both pieces are made of heavy steel cable covered in thick clear vinyl to protect boat finish. First half is an 8' long cable with swedged loops at both ends. Second half is also a heavy steel cable covered in vinyl that coils up when not stretched out and has the lock on it. The lock on the second part locks with a vending machine style key and that key cannot accidentally fall out when the lock is unlocked. Both the swedges on the looped ends and the lock are embedded in heavy plastic. Both halves have the "Brinks" name on them and seem well made. Cheap insurance to keep these scum from taking your boat out into the middle of the lake at night and stripping it.

Around ten days-two weeks ago, a neighbor and his Wife caught two coolers full of Whites/Wipers (?) in the Baxter area while jigging spoons in the early morning. He showed me the broken lines on them and thought sure they were Wipers. I had to agree as everything I've read says Whites have unbroken lines on their sides. They were big enough that I suggested he be aware of the MDC regulation that limits an angler to four fish over 18 inches. If they were Wipers they cannot reproduce due to Wipers being sterile Mules.

Gents, be grateful you live and fish in Missouri..... I have a Daughter who lives lake-front on one of the three major water supply Lakes for Indianapolis. The State of Indiana mandates IDLE SPEED ONLY ! after dark, and that means precisely between Sunset and official Sunrise, and brother do they enforce it.... !!! Talk about a funny sight..you should see the start of the night tournaments on the Lake she lives on. You guys would die laughing. My boat can idle faster than your boat is like watching one of those speed walking races in the Olympics.

I'm sure not a legal-beagle but aren't boat owners responsible for damage their boat wakes cause ? I know a local resort owner who went after a group that has multiple boats and used to water ski right in front of his dock which tore it up pretty bad. He did receive some compensation for the damage their daily activities caused.
-
We refer to those oversized boats on TR as " Battleships in a Bathtub" ! Either the owners are playing the same game they play at Lake of the Ozarks which is "out-do your neighbor" or they need those things to feel secure on the water. COE needs to establish boat length limits or TR will turn into another Lake of the Ozarks.

Yep, still have the LMS350A as I've been on another project and haven't had time to put it on EBay yet. Never experienced the screen fogging problem you refer to and the screen is as clear as the day I bought it. -

I watched two Bobcats spread about 25 loads of topsoil around various Baxter campsites three weeks ago just before a big rain. That mud sat there, running into the lake every time it rained, for two weeks, untouched. Then on the morning of the 8th when the Ozark Frog Strangler hit, I had just made it into the dock and was locking up the boat when the heavens opened up trapping me on the dock. I looked across the water to the Baxter campground to see they had "hydroseeded" ( or whatever they call that green goop they shoot out of a truck onto new ground ) the night before and got to sit there and watch the mud, the seed and the green goop wash across the launch ramp parking lot and into the lake. Whatever moron at the COE planned this should be fired on the spot. Then, after all that expensive dirt and seed getting washed into the lake, a buddy from this board comes down and camps and tells me his party had to spend two hours cleaning up the trash and debris around their two campsites !! I guess they just covered the pre-existing trash at the other sites with their eroding mud.

Do you mean they deem obsolete their five year old units and refuse to repair them ? For what these Companies charge for their new units that is just insane.... Please share your experiences. Thanks.

After speaking with several individuals in the marine and marine electronics business and from costly personal experience I have reached the unfortunate conclusion that Lowrance products are to be avoided. My personal experience is with an LMS-350A that never did work correctly from day one even after an attempt by Lowrance factory service to repair it seven years ago and with an LCX-15MT that just recently "ate" it's GPS antenna which Lowrance, conveniently, no longer has available. Both units cost, when new, slightly over $1000.00 and are both deemed "obsolete" by Lowrance. The LMS unit was returned to me, supposedly repaired by Lowrance (NOT), with a note that repairs would no longer be available as the unit, then, was over five years old. Bummer ! Imagine buying a car and five years later you are told there are no parts for it and no one would work on it. Yeah, I know, cars are different from electronics but this Company is making a habit of this "obsolete" excuse. Then the LCX-15MT displays a message "GPS module not responding" so I go to Lowrance's website and get info. on how to re-set the unit which does nothing. I called their "customer support" and after a 90 minute wait finally get a very disagreeable woman on the phone who scarcastically describes the testing proceedure with a multimeter on how to determine if the head unit or the antenna is bad. The problem was the plug you test on the head unit has four sockets and she kept referring to the socket at the 12 o'clock and the six o'clock position but they aren't arranged that way with sockets at 10, 2, 4 and 8 o'clock ! Finally dragged the information out of her that you had to use the alignment tab in the socket as a starting reference. She was very quick to volunteer that if the head unit was the culprit there was a trade-in rebate (because this six year old $1200.00 unit is now deemed obsolete) if you purchase one of their new "HD" units for thousands of $$. I finally got her to admit that the GPS antenna was out of production and no more were available but at least the sonar side of the unit still works. Started researching other's experience with Lowrance lately and was shocked to find a widespread problem with a Company who's products used to be considered the standard of the depth finder industry. First I was told by two marine dealer's service managers that every boat both had sold in the past 18 months or so, equipped with a Lowrance sonar or GPS unit, has come back with problems with the Lowrance product. Then found out the Company has been sold and they just recently laid off 40% of their customer service staff and their senior technical staff which accounted for the 90 minutes I spent on hold. A further conversation with an experienced marine electronics salesman at a certain local outdoor headquarters store revealed that the HDS units Lowrance has been making.....leak.... ! They leak water....and water is deadly to electronics. So if you have purchased a Lowrance HD unit I would recommend staying out of the rain with it, or, if still in warranty, take it out in the rain and see if it breaks down. If it does, they will honor the warranty and replace it but Lowrance has refused to reveal what the starting production serial number is on which they installed a "fix" for the leak problem so you may be replacing a problem with another problem.

If you grew fond of that fly fishing in CO don't put that fly-rod away here. Some of the best fun of the year is right around the corner as the big, and I mean big, bluegills are just about if not already on their beds and just nail a popping bug thrown on a long leader. Many times while fishing the popping bug for slab gills you'll also pick up a nice Bass and after the gills move out try those same poppers right up against vertical cliff faces. Had some really nice Bass along those walls come the heat of Summer in early morning just hanging out waiting for something to fall in the water. Accardo makes some really effective poppers ( if you can find them ) and the pointed nose bugs cast way better than the true "popper".

And a big AMEN to that ! Topwater, topwater, topwater....it's where it's at. Just LMAO watching them chase it and seeing a big "blow-up" get's my heart started again !!! Sometimes when a hot fish just keeps after that Spook and you hear that big sucking noise they make trying to inhale it I get to laughing so darn hard I lose the cadence in walking the dog and have to stop and start all over again, which will many times get you bit ! Something we used to to do years ago was if the guy in the front of the boat was missing fish on a moving topwater, the "back-seater" would follow up with a white painted spinner bait run just under the surface and not quite "waked". Just let the rear blade break the surface once in a while like a fleeing shad.

Oakley Straight Jacket Sunglasses
skeeter replied to KCNitro's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Finally saved up to have my eyesight fixed via Lasik last year ( best thing I've ever done for myself ) and the Lasik Company was running a special where they gave you a set of "high-performance" sunglasses as an incentive. I was dubious about the "high-performance" claim but sent in the form for the "freebie" and forgot about them. When they arrived they were a wraparound style "Tommy Bahama" polarized sunglass with a light green color to the mirrored lens. They have become my all-time favorites as they are dark enough for bright days and lightly tinted enough for cloudy days, they fit my melon well and give good eye protection from the wind while running the boat down the lake at the ridiculous speed we Basser's like to travel at. Talking about them with an eye Doc at local Pearle vision during annual checkup and he said that mirrored and polarized lenses were the best choice for wearing on the water. Also have a pair of red Oakley polarized radars and they are great for sunny days but too dark to wear on cloudy days with loss of contrast. -
Looks Like A Hoodoochie Is On The Way!

Synonym for an "Ozark Frog Strangler" -
Precisely !!! Couldn't agree more.

No sir, they do not. As their name implies, they only separate the water found in some gas from the gasoline before entering your intake system. Good idea to have one and change it regularly but no help with Ethanol.

Sorry, but this melonhead is also a skinhead and I need the shade My hair gel is SPF 30 sunblock

For back pain problems Chiropractic is 150% more effective than M.D.'s Most M.D.'s will write a scrip for "muscle relaxer" pills which may numb the pain and make you feel goofy but it will not attack the problem(s) causing the pain in the first place. I've been to M'D.'s and D.O.'s for back problems and an alternative to a GOOD Chiro Doc is a D.O. trained in manipulative therapy but good luck in trying to find one anymore these days. You will know if you have found a good Chiropractor if they treat the entire person and not just your symptoms. Some of the more progressive Chiropractors these days have moved away from the old "rack 'em and crack 'em " manipulation procedure and are using a computerized gizmo that "thumps" your back on each verterbrae which is much more gentle. Last I heard there is a female Chiropractor in Harrison AR using this machine but unfortunately I have lost her name.

First of all I think it's outstanding that a guy with Bill's reputation and ability to influence fishermen by use of this board and spending time with clients is expressing the previous opinion of what I term "bed jerkers". Secondly, sorry, but I didn't get the "insinuation" that tournament fishermen were doing anything wrong "LEGALLY". I definitely, and hope others did too, get the accurate insinuation that "ETHICALLY" they were doing a lot wrong !!! Of course when there is money on the line most will do anything and to hell with Ethics.........
