I was weaned on camping and fishing Elk river around 1964.. You could find cans and bottles in the river back then--- Now I avoid it like the plague, it is a freaking zoo down there on weekends....

Pretty much complete!

I went above Green's Ford the day I arrived. It had plenty of water and a long deep hole with plenty of action.....Sat. rumrunner and I floated from camp to Bannister Ford. A lot of kayak dragging yet deep holes and prey good fishing..We both had a good time... Sunday I decided to go see water I hadn't seen before, above Griswald Ford. Same conditions only stopped by a lot of down timber, didn't feel like unloading to portage further.. I saw the Springs they're bubbling up pretty awesome.... There is a lot of river I have never seen from Mule shoe down to Griswald 11 miles worth.... Then Monday morning before I left I put in there at camp and paddled upstream and discovered the stream had been redirected...It changed by cutting a new path into Macks Creek which was beautiful.. a series of deep holes and ripples under deep shade for quite a ways up till I reached the main channel... Another part of the river I haven't seen is the stretch from Bannister to Fiery Fork.... Sure, I have put in at all these Fords and fished up and down stream of each of them for short distances... in a mellow afternoon of fishing... I have paddled up from J bridge to the private low-water bridge several times in the past, that is some memorable times..... I always love the solitude of the place, and the steep hills and bluffs, almost mountanious for that little stretch of the Ozarks!

Trip pics. Yes, I drug the kayak consistently because of low water, Like I said before graphite works wonders... Muffin enjoyed the trip...

They need to make needle nose side cutters "dykes" ,at least you could reach down in a basse's mouth to cut the hook...

Back in the Early 60's,when I was about 12 yrs. old ,this is how we did it on the Elk river...... I have my granddads glass minnow trap today stored in his old Coka-A-Cola steel ice chest.... I learned a lot watching the little bass nip and attack at the bait while the big ones hung back and watched...I learned to crouch down and sneak up on a hole, be still, and stalk.. The wounded or half dead minnow just jerked now and then would attract the bigger ones to move in and check it out...... What do we have today...you all know.... Try to fish with a dead minnow, his eyes popped out his head nearly torn off and keep getting hits with it...AND CALL IT UNSPORTING???? .....yet fish with artificials with scent etc..etc..etc...and be a sportsman...or what ever... The fish can swallow the hook weather it has a barb or not. live or plastic.... TRY SOME NATIVE SHINNER FISHING SOMETIME.... I remember reading " in an old bass Mag. Doug Hannon fishing Lake Okeechobee... In Florida , for huge Bass with giant shiners and a balloon for a bobber.. It can be as much fun catching bait as it is the big fish....Say catching crawdads with a little minnow dip net.... It all takes me back in time long gone!!!

Favorite Streams In Mo To Float Camp & Fish?
woodman replied to Leitsout's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
WELL that is a loaded question for us old timers....Back in the 60's... Elk River----big sugar creek...."Cyclone" etc. etc. etc... that area......Is where i was weened..... Now..Little Niangua .. Because it is NOT heavily populated with canoe traffic!!!!!! And 2 1/2 hrs. from my house! This is from a Kansascitian born in Joplin.....My 2 cents.... -
AC...Oh yea had to for the wife......early on I figured that in just did'n post it here........ But anyhow....The boat rack is yet to be built...... But The AC unit application is picture heavy...... What I did was find some one seling ac units on craigslist and met him to see how they worked...Well they weren't putting out cold air so...the bottom line is he gave me both of them....I took them home took them apart at blew out the coils and such with my air comp..and they work fine....I made the unit slide under the floor to line up with ducts I ran up in the galley cabinets and through the rear bulkhead "wall dividing the bed space and galley" and into the cabinet that is at the foot of the bed....The return air is under the cabinet and the exhaust is at the top of the cabinet ....I made an extension cord, and moved the controlls and thermostat inside, under that cabinet.... The build is extensively posted here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=57906

Jim, probably weekend would work better for you?

Lights hooked up, getting closer..... The son inlaw gave me some LED's..... Roof vent mounted, fenders, lights , etc...... Took it to the local quarry to get it weighed....Without that big refrigerator it would be Under 1,000 lbs, It weighed in at 1,020 lbs.... Here is the official Tiny trailer Forum: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=57906

Ok, I got back on the trailer about a month ago, forgot I even posted on here! I wanted to bring the cedar color from the hatch area to the outside.... Using my airbrush, and water based stain, I started fogging on the lighter stain around the perimeter.... Then, with the darker color to resemble where the trim would have gone.... Still too much white wood so I misted on some more over the entire thing...My finger and hand is going numb. I should have used my small touch up gun..... Ready for epoxy seal coat, I have about a gallon of resin and hardener left over from wood kayak building..And fiberglass cloth is not needed...The cloth is used in kayak building to give the unsupported deck and hull strength.....

OH Heck, I got side distracted in January My grandson had a pine-wood derby car I worked on fore him! So I pulled down off a dusty shelf one of my "Old Slot Car Boxes" to get some ideas and the rest of the story! It all ends here: Raytown International Raceway I built a couple of slot car tracks in my spare time while not building cabinets for new homes.... For those on FB....Video: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=vb.523824794&type=2 Pictures: https://www.facebook.com/steve.crawford.3701/media_set?set=a.10152326390084795.1073741826.523824794&type=3 http://s147.photobucket.com/user/scrawford_photos/library/Slot%20Car%20Tracks?sort=6&page=1

Negative 9 last night..A big 0 today... Supposed to be upper 20's tomorrow....Quite the rollorcoaster winter so far..... Better than being in the 20's or teens for a solid month like I remember back in the mid 90's.... It froze the Line Creek branch in N. KC. so solid that a friend I decided one morning to take our atvs on a lengthy creek expedition over beaver dams etc...
-
OK since I started this project,I got the second set of cabinets out of the shop wed....The roof skin is on and time to move it back to the house garage to commence a 3rd set of cabinets, (which consist of kitchen-vanity's-and wet bar).... Any how photo time... Back into the garage...The refg. fits... Look what is hanging around waiting for a roof rack..
-
The rear hatch door..Just need to make the prop that holds it up and add blocking where the taillights and trailer plate will go..Plus a light on the underside when it is open.. The hinge..

Sprayed the doors this weekend and while they were drying.... I worked on the 2 cabin side doors mortised out the door jambs for the latches etc.... Hung the cabinet doors this morning...I like the 2 tone cedar rather than the all dark as on the interior doors...The dark cedar came from an old cracked and notty 8x8 beam a guy gave me...The lighter cedar on the galley door frames are from a 2X6 from Home Depot...
