whos fishing haloween night or the night after
loo10 replied to Center Punch's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I'll be there at 9 on the 1st. Plan to fish out of my boat on Halloween. So unless the fishing was unbelieveable down below on the 31st....I'll be there. Or at least I'll come get you guys. -
If I had something so important to my livelihood that I wanted to patent it, I sure wouldn't print pictures of it on the web first. Nor would I show them to alot of people before I patented it. Hasn't anyone heard the saying, "Early bird gets the worm?" What bothers me about this topic is that people act like they are above all this. Who hasn't copied flies they saw or admired? Who? I personally showed a pattern to an area fly shop years ago and it was being sold in their store within the month. So let's not act like "Ooooooo...I'm so above this." If I show a pattern to you or show you a technique to get a special result........ fish it, copy it, and if you can make a buck - go for it. But don't act like you'd NEVER do such a thing. My best patterns have come from sharing with others. I hope maybe some of their best patterns have come from me.

I am always willing to share my flies or patterns with anyone if it will help them catch a few fish. And 99% of those who are alongside me on the stream are exactly the same. I find it interesting that some want to take the "high moral ground" (supposedly) and act like they have never copied or attempted to copy a fly someone has shown them or given them. To those I have one question, "Do you wish to be kettle or pot?"

I plan to be there the 31st and 1st. Haven't decided but I may bring my boat down & fish below... at least one of those night's. Halloween Night ought to be a good night to hear the cry of the Taneycomo Creeper. All I can say is..... DO NOT FISH ALONE!!!! -
Gang, I haven't seen anyone respond so I'll step in. I do not believe you can use ANY part of a Heron to tie flies. Being a Federally protected bird means you cannot possess Blue Heron parts. And we all know parts is parts! Same as owls, eagles, etc. So, get you a good Blue Heron substitute for those spey flies and soft hackles. loo10

Thanks fellas for a fun info-filled evening. It's never too late to learn something new and I learned a little something from all 3 speakers. Thanks for your time and for sharing your secrets to catching Taney's Trout. Here's to "wiggling flies under moonlit skies".... loo10

Get Linc a heron suit and sit him on top of the dock with a fine Bass Pro Shop pellet gun. I say, "Let 'em worry about snipers!"

I believe God gave me free will because He didn't want me to be a robot. So I can choose to accept Him or not; Believe gambling is hurtful to my fellow man or not; Be Pro-Life...or not. I know what scripture teaches and THAT is the final authority in my life. But SilverMallard, I find it offensive when you state what makes or distinguishes a "good" Christian; Or what a "good" Christian should do and to what degree. You state you will vote for an alternative to gambling if one is presented. So you are pro gambling if it's just a yes or no decision? Fortunately for my wife, I am faithful. And it's not based on whether there's a better alternative available.

I could not agree with Phil more on this one. It's about setting precedent. If the law is changed and ONE casino is placed in an inland lake; then the door is open for any lake in this state! And you won't get it repealed...EVER! One has to imagine how the fishing would have been at Lake of the Ozarks if they hadn't been allowed to develop it right up to the waterfront. Or what about Taneycomo if there were no docks or buoys to dodge? Anyone remember the hogs that used to swim amongst the trees at Clay Banks before the KOA rock pile was built??? Thank goodness for the areas on Taney where there are bluffs and they can't develop. I'm against the casino. I'm against more condos. I'm against more $300,000 homes built on the water. I am for the slot limit, I am for releasing ALL brown trout, I am for the fog that comes off the lake, I am for catching trout while in waders or from my boat, and for the smiles that Taneycomo's fishing brings to people. So, a casino? Nah, our goals aren't the same!
-
From picture, it looks like white.
-
I'd trade a casino in Rockaway Beach for all the development in Taney's upper 8 miles any day. And I don't gamble one bit.

I haven't been to the Landing yet but my wife and daughter went last Saturday. They liked it.
-
One of the things I always liked about Taney was it seemed to be a "FISHING" lake... not a recreational lake. Seems like that's changing. Sad but true. Lately, we're seeing jet ski's, paddle boats, kayak's, and now "Duck's". I'm thinking about getting me an old PT boat from WWII that still has the torpedos along the side. I figure if we sink a few of 'em as they leave the harbor, we can turn the tide quick! heee-heeee (Please, no hate mail...I'm, of course, joking!)
-
Way I see it.... if we make stealin' outta boats a hangin' offense; we could solve this problem.
-
I like to occasionally take a few trout under the slot length limit home to eat. I love trout fixed alot of ways but my wife is pretty neutral on them. Anyone got any "Oh-my-gosh" terrific trout recipes to share? In other words....... how do you make them taste as good as crappie??? Thanks.
-
I usually fish with mine off but when i hear another boat (and you SURE can hear them out in the dark)... I light mine up too. I wouldn't want to have a close encounter of the worst kind.)
-
Does your jon boat have lights? I have run my bigger boat up there at night many, many times and never thought of a jon boat floating up there in the dark. I think regulations are that your boats must have running lights.

Contrary to belief, I am a huge supporter of the free enterprise system. Capitalism is our way of life. If you can do something to make money, and people will pay it....GOOD FOR YOU! I have no problems with that. Bass Pro will fill a nitch at BL, just as they do in Springfield. But I buy at Backcountry Outfitters in Springfield, or Tim's Fly Shop at RR, or Anglers & Archery near the dam in Branson whenever I can. Because supporting the smaller fly shops keeps them in business; Being a fly tyer, if the fly shops closed, I wouldn't be able to buy 90% of what I use. And the advice and smiles they offer on a daily basis are priceless.

Forum Fishermen - PLEASE READ. I have been away from the computer for several days following the death of my Grandmother. I just returned and apparently I created a firestorm. Let me set the record straight. I did not intend to offend or disrespect Bill Babler. We met years ago when we was working the Sportsman's Show in KC and I discussed floating the Kasmir River with him. I have nothing but respect for him. his integrity, and his abilities. I was teasing! That's all. I meant no more disrespect to him by calling him "Billy", than my friends do when they call me "Richie". If I offended, please accept my public apology. It was NOT intentional. I also said, you must be getting an eighth of a penny off of every micro jig sold. Again, I was joking. Unfortunately, you could not know that from an email. Anyone who knows me, would know it is not in my character to do such a thing. I love to joke and tease. I give as well as get a load of crapola from friends. I have been accused of making money on countdown rapalas by my friends as I love to fish them at night and I'm always telling them to buy some. So, to Bill, please accept my apologies for rubbing you the wrong way. To those of you who know me..... should you have been so quick to assume the worst? To the rest of you, from your comments, I am sure Bill has a new understanding of his value to this Forum. I wish you all the best of luck in your fishing adventures. -loo10

Harry Carey used to get an eighth of a penny off every case of Budweiser sold during baseball season. Who's gonna tell me Billy Babler ain't got the same deal going on micro jigs?
-
Just spoke to a couple o' poachers above Fall Creek and asked them this question... They said it was a tie between power bait and trout guts. (I'm going to hell for that one ain't I ???) ha
-
Part One: Micro jigs are exceedingly over-priced small jigs down to size 1/295th oz or so. Unfortunately they work. @!#&! Part Two: The large water boil you saw was "The Beast"; known to swallow up small boats, big fish, and every jet skier who passes by. (in other words, I don't know either!)
