  1. I think that I will be there this year. I will bring an extra shot gun or 2 if any body wants to cast and blast. We can have fresh Duck and Goose Poppers. YUM
  2. Looks good, Who did it for you.
  3. Did he drive you down in the Shelby.
  4. I wish I could have made it to the meeting. I would love to see a bunch of limestone boulders put in between outlet 1-2 , if the Corp will go down and move some gravel around from the rebar down to the big hole not taking it out just redistribution and deepen. Down by outlet three down to the wall of fame on the north side would be an awesome spot for some structure and boulders added. These three areas already hold fish and the structure would only make it better. One thing that they might consider to do is to build a diversion down by the boat ramp to slow the water to make it easier for inexperienced people to load and unload boats in the current. Just like they have down below the Dam on the both sides of the river on White. As for navigation with boats drift or motor I have seen no problem down on the White below the dam, but I guess it only take one person for it to be a problem you should know the river system be for you put your boat in and navigate up or down stream. I do also understand thats how you can learn a river system is to just get out and do it With the structure they have added below the dam you can already see how it holds, This a great idea.
  5. When I used to work for the MDC the last survey in 2000 That I helped with on Taney we shocked up the biggest Brown That I have ever seen. After we took the measurements and I can not remember what they are exactly. By math the fish would weigh about 42lbs. The big Brown came down by the old Conoco dock down by Fall Creek. I would estimate that there are a lot of of 20-25 inch browns may be 1/50 browns. I would further say that for about every 200 there is is one that would go 15-20 lbs. If the MDC would take the stand on Brown Trout like AG&F and make it 24inch to keep we could see a big numbers change.
  6. Here is an article that I wrote a few years back for the news paper. For the rods I use a 9'5wt 90% of the time in the fall I will go to a 9'7wt or an 8wt Fast action rods are my favorite are TFO Axium, Sage Flight, Sage Z-axis or the TCX Up by the dam 100% floating line with a long belly short head great for casting streamers. Point Royal down it depends on the spot I like the S/A Uniform Sink Plus Type 4 match it to the rod. They are the easiest full sink line to cast that is on the market. Good luck if you have any questions please feel free to call or stop by the shop. I have been night fishing down at Taneycomo for well over 15 years maybe longer. And have seen people come and go, and people who go always will find there way back to the night time is the right time. One thing that I have noticed over the years is that the fishing is always about the same it is ether on or off. On the night that it is on you will catch 40-60 fish depending on how long your down there. On the nights that it is off you will catch maybe half that amount and have to work at getting them. My dad and I have night fished back in the day when night fishing Taney wasn't cool where we would catch 120 -150 fish between the two of us. With the night fishing growing in popularity it is though to have those night because some of the prime spots are taken. That is why I have done the home work and know spots and fish spots that no one will even consider to fish at night. Now I'm not trying to be big headed but the night fishing takes a little time and a little work to master. I usually will avg about 150 nights a year on Taney, with everything that happen this year I will not make the avg. There was one year that my dad and I were down there over 250 nights and what a year. I am pretty sure that I have cast everything including the kitchen sink at them to try and see if it would catch a fish. I used to try and keep mental notes and that got too hard for me to remember everything. So now I keep a journal and keep everything from the weather to moon phase wind direction, who was with me, to how many fish we caught and what we caught them on. I have been going over all of this and it seems that the conclusion that I have come up is just about everything that I have tried has caught a least one fish on. OK maybe the kitchen sink didn't catch any fish but it was fun trying to cast that thing on my 7'2wt(LOL). We all have our favorite spots and will seldom move but in my own experience I will found some awesome spots between point A & B. I have had people watch us get ready in the parking lot and actually have people ask me where are going with all that gear. I try to always keep a sinking line like a type 2 or 3 on hand just because they are not running water does not mean you can use one. I have been known to cast a floating line in the shallows then put a sinking line in the deeper water , and when I say deeper water any water thats is over 4 ft in depth. And then there are all my boxes way too many flies to go over right now. When you see my fly box you might think that I'm crazy OK I'm sure that some of you already think that. Back to the main point I have top water flies all the way to the huge sculpins. Now the time of year will dictate what size flies that I will have on hand. For the general purpose of this summer time will yield the size to be 10-6 and the fall will yield the size of the fly to be 6-1/0. Two reasons for the dramatic size change, for the most part in the summer time there are a lot of fish in the area that are 15-18 inches there are a few over 18-24 about but they are few and far between. I will use the month of July as a feeler to see how I think the fall will be. In my years of fishing down there if you start catching a lot of Browns at night in July the fall we be good as in lat year I had 8 fish that were over 10lbs and one that pushed the 15lb mark. So to sum up summer time fishing and you want numbers fish small flies if you want to go after some bigger fish, fish some bigger flies and you might need to move down stream. Now to the fall and the big stick time, I will have big flies and a big stick to be able to cast the flies. I will generally have in hand a 9'8wt. For two reasons the ease of casting bigger flies not to say you cant cast them on a 6wt. And for the ease of getting big fish in. When you catch these big fish as in 24-28 inch fish you want to get them as quickly as you can so that you do not harm them. Remember the reason that the big fish are coming up is to spawn. Now the MDC says that the fish do not spawn in Taney, that can be a whole other topic. However the MDC does come down and get the big fish and milk them so that they can continue to produce the fish in the hatchery. I will use a lot of articulated pattern's with stinger hooks in them. Two reasons for the articulated patterns is I can get a larger fly and not have to have a huge hook in the fly.; I will tie a bunch of articulated leech's that will have a number 4 octopus hook in it and the fly is 4" long the hook is only about 1" long. I only through streamers and only fish when the water is off. That is how I have done it for years I have had some people try and get me into nymphing at night no offense it's not me. I like the action of streamer fishing. I also believe that it is the most productive way to fish because you can cover more water at night whipping and stripping streamers. Starting to get busy must get to work now. See you all down ther tonight. I hope that this what not to long.

  12. IMO and having worked for New Century Financial Investment Planners for a a few years after I graduated from college. I have seen a lot of day traders lose what they have, I would start small with little dollar stocks, the ones you mentioned are well proven but rarely move from 2-5% in a day. those would be some great long term invetsment. (no worries) If you want to learn to day trade start out with some penny stocks ones that sale for 10-20 cents and watch them grow you have to watch them everyday to make them work. I bought some penny stocks one time for 30 cents/ share and sold it for 2.95/share took six months to get there with in a week of selling they dropped back to 10 cents and have never reached over a dollar/ share. (must Watch penny stocks everyday) Just remember this is the most risky thing you can do one day they are there one day they are gone. I would find a local broker to deal with that you trust with your money give him some money to invest then start asking him questions about things you want to do he is involed in it everyday he will know . There are all kids of graphs to read then the news that come out everyday make sure you keep up on it. one thing that i watch on pennys is the amount of shares that trade hands every day. 52 week high and low are useful too. I would also look at their IRS reporting and see how stable they are. Day trading can be very tricky and be very risky. I used to own Walmart my grandfather bought 70 shares for me when I was 10 years old sold it when I got married and bought our first house. back in those days Walmart was splitting 1 to times a year. I think that they are about maxed out plus I would stay away from any thing dealing with the motor company. I like the oil company's Technology imagine if you would have bought goggle when it came out (IPO). I love tech stocks just remember do not invest any more than you are comfortable loosing. On the gold and silver I think that a lot of people buy this when economic times are bad because it is a guarantee to hold its value well i guess there are really no guarantees, but I think you can understand. Like ness said the market is up all over the board after the big fall 18 months ago do not fall into the trap of over inflated stocks thinking that they are a great deal then wake up one day and see you lost everything. I like Jim Cramer Maybe we should start a trading club I have been in voled with a few and they are fun. I would be up for it.
  13. Well This should be interesting maybe Terry can Tie his Rattle Snake fly here at the shop.

  15. I'm IN!!!!! I'll tie up my world famous TBITGFFITW fly....
  16. Hello All, My wife and I would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone for the hospitality and the business that you have given us in the last 6 years. With the new baby coming in December and hard thought of the future we decided to sale the shop. I felt that is more important to watch the family grow up rather than owning and operating a fly shop. We are not sure what we are going to do but we are re-thinking the Montana move, and are 80% sure that we will move out there sometime in the near future. I am going to continue to guide here in Missouri and Arkansas. We would personally like to thank each and everyone one of you for your support, we have a lot friendships that were developed out of the fly shop and I hope they will carry forward. The new owners Tim and Becky Fowkes will be taking over in December and are looking forward to meeting everyone. I will be here for a while helping out or until Tim gets fed up with looking over his shoulder. See you on the river Tight Lines Michael & Kristina Kyle
  17. The fish do not know they are in the outlet
  18. Sounds like a Big Smith song I would say that with the temps where they are that is pretty slow with the Browns, not that they actually will spawn in Taneycomo but they need the lower temp to tell their brain that it is time. We really need the water temp to get back down around low 50' to high 40's. I bet though you can not keep the Bows off of your line but I am sure it is a little slower than usual. Good Luck.
  19. Thank you I know my wife wishes it would come to an end soon. It has been a long hard pregancy, I am sure if this were the first it would be the last.
  20. I have one for my GL2 it is a fillter that threads on to the lens. I have been wanting to get down there and flim the outlet with my camera just do not have time. New baby on the way this week I have been getting new floors done in the house. Plus guiding down on the White. I wonder if I made my day 30hrs if it would catch on. Lol
  21. I have had very good luck with the ones that I have used. I have had them in the boat all spring and summer with just 100 guide trip under them. I did absoulty nothing to them just to see how long they would last they held up. They float high and are very easy to pick yp off the water. My favorite is the GPX taper. Well worth the money , S/A has come out with all kinds of new lines they have a sharskin in a sinking line plus the new Kelly Galloup streamer lines are going to be the real deal. Hope this helps. Michael
  22. I like the Trade up program that is pretty cool I wish other manufactures would do this.
  23. Here is the St.Croix service plan straight off there web site, SILVER STAR SERVICE PLAN The fact that you’re reading this probably means you’ve got a damaged rod. Rest assured that our goal is to get you fishing with it again as soon as possible. Now, if you’re convinced that our error led to its demise and you know the warranty has not expired, then our Silver Star Plan is your best solution. Here’s how it works. 1. Write a note explaining the problem. Send the note, a check for $20* and your entire rod to St. Croix. We suggest using our Discount Shipping Program, which is described elsewhere on this page. 2. If your rod was damaged due to faulty workmanship, then of course we will cover the cost of the repair or replacement during the warranty period. 3. However, if evidence indicates that the damage is due to an accident, normal wear or neglect, then we’ll advise you of the additional cost to repair or replace your rod. * The $20 charge applies to USA and Canadian customers, only. The charge for shipments to all other countries is $30. Acceptable methods of payment include personal check (drawn on a USA bank account) and credit card (VISA, MC, American Express, Discover). GOLD STAR SERVICE PLAN Ahh..but what if you’re not registered as the original owner of the rod. Or your buddy stepped on your rod, or slammed it in a car door, or worse yet, used it to free a snag. No worries. St. Croix’s Gold Star Plan eliminates the uncertainty of a dubious warranty claim. Here’s what to do. 1. Return your damaged rod to St. Croix. Use our Discount Shipping Program to save money. 2. Include a note requesting our Gold Star Service, along with a check for $50 to cover the repair or replacement of your rod. Our Technician will determine whether to repair or replace your rod keeping in mind we’ll only repair it if we can make it perform like new. 3. That’s all there is to it. And there’s no additional s&h charge for customers in the USA. Canadian customers must pay an additional $20 for s, and all other International customers must pay an additional $30 for s&h. Acceptable methods of payment include personal check (drawn on a USA bank account) and credit card (VISA, MC, American Express, Discover). GOLD STAR + UPGRADE PLAN Understandably, you’re feeling pretty badly about your damaged `Croix. So why not make the best of a bad situation and treat yourself to that higher-performance model you’ve been dreaming about? With our Upgrade Plan, you receive a brand new rod with a fresh new warranty. Here’s how you do it. 1. Return your damaged rod to St. Croix. Use our Discount Shipping Program to save money. 2. Include a check equal to $50 plus the cost difference between the price of your new rod and that of your damaged one. It’s best to telephone a St. Croix Customer Service Representative at 800-826-7042 (select Service Center), or e-mail at service@stcroixrods.com for assistance in determining the exact price. 3. That’s all there is to it. And there’s no additional s&h charge for customers in the USA. Canadian customers must pay an additional $20 for s&h, and all other International customers must pay an additional $30 for s&h. Acceptable methods of payment include personal check (drawn on a USA bank account) and credit card (VISA, MC, American Express, Discover). TRADE-UP PLAN Here’s a great plan for St. Croix owners wanting to try an even higher-performing model. Hard to believe, but your undamaged ‘Croix is worth money towards the purchase of another in a series which is at least one level higher. Additionally, rods with 5-year warranties can only be traded for rods with lifetime warranties. The rules are below, but you’ll need to speak to our Customer Service Representative to complete the deal. Here’s the phone number: 800-826-7042. When prompted for the extension number, press either 139 or 135. But before you call, please read the following explanation of how Trade-Up works. And when you do call, please be prepared to give the model and serial numbers to our Representative. He'll need them to calculate your trade-up cost. 1. First you’ll need to determine the year of manufacture of your rod. To do this, scroll down this page to “Interpreting the Age of the Rod”. You’ll only need the year of manufacture. Rods built prior to 2001 are not eligible for Trade-Up. 2. Subtract the year of manufacture of your rod from the current year. Multiply this number by $10. This is your Depreciation Cost. 3. Return your undamaged rod to St. Croix. You may use our Discount Shipping Program to save money. Package it carefully, because damaged rods are not eligible, even if they are damaged in transit. A damaged rod will be returned to you in the condition in which we received it. 4. The formula below is used for determining the total cost. But again, please contact our Representative at 800-826-7042 Ext. 139 or Ext. 135 to confirm this cost and assist in the selection of your new rod. Acceptable methods of payment include personal check (drawn on a USA bank account) and credit card (VISA, MC, American Express, Discover).
