Hello All I just wanted to inform everyone that Backcountry Outfittes will be moving right next door to Fin&Feather here in Springfield. The move will happen on or about January the 19 if all go as planned. If you do not know where Fin&feather is the address is 2863 South Campbell Springfield Mo,65804. Everything will stay the same we are adding several new lines which I'm sure will be a huge hit with the fly fisherman here in the area. We will be having a grand opening sometime in March. We would like to thank everyone for thier continued support at this location for the past 15 years and I hope that it will carry over to the new location. Michael & Kristina Kyle

Yes the w30 it takes good photos inside, outside, and underwater not sure what Rusty is talking about as far as the inside. When you take different shots you have to adjust the camera for what you want it to do. Way over my head I just read the book and do as it directs me. Some of my photos have been published in magazines and in local papers. So I say if it is good enough for them it is good enough for me.

Those are some great pics. It was good to talk to you last night let me know how I might help with the TU project. I'm not for sure but I'm pretty sure that right now you can go down there and catch all the 20-21" Browns that you want to. By the way I lost my boga grip last night looked for it for about 1 hour somewhere between 2 and the re-bar. If any one would happen on it I will make it worth your while to return it. It is a 30lb and has BCO engraved on it. Michael

Hello All, I can not believe how fast the year has gone and what a year it has been. Not just for the business but for our family too. We had some major medical issues that came up one with youngest daughter and one with myself. With everyones thoughts and prayers we came through it I believe an even stronger family. Kristina and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone one of you for you continued support and would like to invite your family to the 4th annual Christmas Party here at the shop 1316 East Battlefield Springfield, Missouri. The Party will be on Saturday December the 8th and will start at 6PM. We will be providing food and drinks. If you have not ever been to one you need to come and try the world famous duck stew, it is awesome not to pat myself on the back. There will be drawings for door prizes which will consist of merchandise from these fine manufactures Fishpond, Winston, Sage, Rio, S/A,. The drawings will take place all through out the night. Plus there will be a customer appreciation sale on selected merchandise. I hope that everyone will be able to make it out remember come early because the Stew last year was gone in the first hour. Merry Christmas and have a safe and happy New Year Again thank you for another great year. Michael & Kristina

Remember you are your only judge when it comes to the flies that you tie. I rarely see fish that are judgmental if they are on the pat that you are fishing. Good luck with your tyeing this winter.

I do very good on cream and furnace, and peacock and cream cracklebacks. Cream and peacock are the body and furnace and cream are the hackle. Size 12 and 14 are my favorite. Fish them when there is chop on the water stripping them back as fast as you can. I have had 100 fish days when fishing them like that. Now thats when I fish all day from daylight to dusk. I even think that there are some people that have fished them at night and do well on them. They just tie them on a larger hook like an 8 or a 6.

Just Wondering, Have'nt Heard Much
Micheal Kyle replied to Daddy Carp's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I would look down by Bull Creek I have seen quite a few in the creek it self, so I would say when the creek gets hot in summer they would migrate down to where they can find cooler temps. -
I showed the glue eggs to an agent about 10 years ago and he said as long as they have thread on them it was a legal fly. With that said I still have never fished them down there. I bet they would be killer, I do have some friends that that tie there egg sucking leech's and use the hot glue for the egg. It would be interesting to see what Quinton, Danton or the other agent I cant remember his name would say about them. Mike does not work this county anymore and like Phil says it might depend on the Agent. Michael

TV news is about who can be first and look what it does sometimes make them look stupid.
-
And like it is said in the movie "Thats the way the cookie crumbles" I can not belive they did not get a second oppion first. John I will e-mail with the info where you can go and see a real Mountain Lion.

After reviewing the broadcast several times I think that it does resemble a Bobcat. I have one that we killed and I got the proper permits to get the animal taxidermist. The face on the animal in the video looks short and boxy and the legs ar extremely long as well and the ears are quite small and pointy. Yes it does have bob tail and spots in the front but I would not make my conclusion just on those two things. Before we bought the fly shop from Jack my wife and I lived in Kansas for several years managing a 30 thousand acre ranch with crops and about 1000 head of beef cattle. I would on some what of a schedule occurrence see a few Mountain Lions, They would love to eat on our dead calves that we would loose most of the time it was the same cats every now and then there would be a new cat. Any way the cats that I saw would be short and long like less than 24 inches tall and about 5 to 6 feet long they have a distinctive head that is round and long and the feet are huge about twice the size as a bobcat now the reason that I said this look very closely at this cat it has a short round face and is tall and short, and the feet are small, or they sure appear to be small. I am no expert but I have seen a lot of both. I will say the news might be wrong on this one. Michael

I used to have a freind that worked at the southwest power admin office here in Springfeild. He retired this year and we would talk a little about water generation and he would say yes it will be off then 20 min latter he would call me back and tell they were going to run all night. They get a chance to sell the power they will.

I was down yesterday with a camera crew and we kept hearing a siren coming from the new hatchery. I have not been able to fish as much as I usually do in the fall and was wondering if anybody might know what it is or was. And yes I am for sure it was coming from the hatchery and was not the horn for the dam. Terry I left the good cooler at home, so I know I was not hearing things. Michael

65 bridge and up you have to have a trout stamp no matter what.

Send me there contact info I have looked through everything I know Thats why I always have ordered everything through Schmidt. It works pretty good when the water is on.
-
I have the swivels and snaps I buy the pencil lead from Schmidt outfitters up in Michigan they are in Wellston. They also have the pliers that you will need to make the lead. Let me do some research and I will see if I can order the pliers and pencil lead from a distributor of mine. It might take me a couple of days to find out.

Yes we used it on the Naknek and plus that what we use every year when we go to Michigan. What a powerful way to get the presentation right. Michael

Yes I will have to agree we will be walking on fish to get to more fish. I have only got to fish twice since we got back from up north and it has been great. I had one Saturday night that was 29 inches and wieghed in on my boga 13.5 pounds. Then yesterday I only had one fish it was a 24-25 inch fish and wieghed in on my boga at 6lbs. If you have never tryed the chuck and duck system you should it works extremly well when the water is on and plus you do not have to worry about your back cast. I will try to work on a how to today about chuck and duck and post it on OAF. Michael

Phil, Are they actually going to consider the ideas because I have always been told that they could not do anything because it was a core lake. And that changing the habitat would some how change the flow of water. I have several Ideas and they mostly are just about structure big boulders, adding lay downs and dredging out some deeper holes. Is there going to be a meeting about this and if so where and when. Michael

So you have also been properly trained for the wild life on Taney.
