  1. thanks, I will be heading up there later this week and plan to fish somewher around there. Haven't been to the lake for a couple weeks so I was needing a good report. thanks for the detailed outing.
  2. IMO you want a "mushy" slower action rod for cranking. that is why the "cranking" style rods are like this. It is done on purpose. You do not want something too sensitive where you react and pull the bait from the fish. Rick clunn says these same things in this month's bassmaster mag. I got a Daiwa Light and Tough Crankbait rod from BPS catalog outlet store. A $115 rod for $50. It is pretty good. I also though am not a fan of the heavy rods, but seems to be the way it is with crankin sticks If you want to try one on the cheap, go to Wal-Mart. Our local store here has a Berkley Bionix Crankbait Rod for about $40 or $50. Seems to be decent too for cranking. I am not too proud to say I fish and have had success with cheap rods.
  3. suppose to, as well as repair small tears to help baits last longer. I personally don't use any
  4. I am switching all my line over to copoly. After years of using fluorocarbon (with good results) I just don't think the benefits (especially on LOZ) outweigh the added cost. I have done very well with lines such as PLine CXX Xtra strong, FluoroClear, and Vicious Ultimate which are all alot cheaper for the pocketbook. I have also switched all my spinning rigs over to braid with a leader. Love it so far.
  5. not bad for 4 fish. sounds like fun style of fishing. thanks for the report. What area of the lake were you fishing?
  6. I have heard of people using CLR with good results.
  7. not lately, but I would be sure to check areas like Coopers and the like with a shallow crankbait.
  8. What patterns where they fishing Kevin? that is a nice bag on pomme
  9. bout 11lbs. just under 12lbs. winner had a 4.5lber is only reason. otherwise a lot of identical looking smaller fish
  10. got out on Pomme last weekend for a fun tourney. What great weather! I fished down by haverstick the majority of the day. The fish are thinking fall. I caught all my fish on spinnerbait in coves and cuts that were loaded with shad and I just tried to throw at every tree I could see on my way to the back to catch ambushing fish. The winners fished the Pomme side and other caught all their fish with squarebills in 5 ft or less of water on flatter pea gravel rounded points. the second place finisher caught them cranking also, but deeper into the 8ft range.
  11. Thanks for the report. Will be there next weekend. Hope to catch some fish. I haven't been out in a long time.
  12. What areas do you like? Is it better up the Pomme or main lake area? When you say flats what depth ate you focusing on? Any examples To refer to if I were to locate it on a map? I was thinking along the lines of Possum ??? cove? (the cove across from bolivar landing)
  13. It is a bass tourney more for fun. Very low key. I take my wife for this tourney every year, just haven't fished it in October. I don't think I have ever fished Pomme in the fall due to being a football coach. I am familiar with the lake, so some help is some good areas and patterns/techniques that are good for October to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks. What I kind of have in mind is to find flats, maybe stumpy areas and throw white spinnerbaits, shallow cranks, etc. OR are they still in a late summer pattern and shakey heads on deeper structure still the ticket?
  14. Great Report, thanks. KY bass limit on LOZ is 12" although many tourneys just use a 15" limit across the board.
  15. Haven't been to Pomme since early spring and the lake was very high. Need a little help on where to start for bass. Gonna be there mid October in about 3 or 4 weeks. I am pretty familiar with Pomme, just not in the fall due to football coaching. Any help is appreciated.
  16. oh ok. Not sure "mine" are big enough to try it at normal pool. I have the path but even 6ft high there were spots that were 6-8ft. How is right across from bolivar landing? I think it is possum hollow??? or possum something maybe?
  17. Where is ths McCracken Bride? I am familiar with pomme, just not all the local names of places. When I was referring to up the Pomme, I meant up from Bolivar landing. I have been close to PP bridge when the water was high.
  18. Isn't the cave hole up the pomme river or am I way off?
  19. Yeah, it is a 70+ mph boat. pretty fast for an 18ft 8in boat. The cool thing about the removeable console is that it is very easy to remove and put back in, but also very solid when in. You can use it any way you want, but at least you have the removeable console if you were ever wanting to sell. You can appeal to both single and dual console buyers. And as far as the fishing deck......absolutely huge for an 18 footer.
  20. The BassCats are great boats with probably the best customer service of all the manufacturers. Great little boats. I also really like the new Ranger Z118s too. Very nice also, but both will cost a little bit. I have and LOVE my Nitro Z7. I have a 2010 so mine has a 200 pro xs and flies. In my opinion the Z7 is the best value boat on the market. You get a ton of boat for the money. Don't listen to all the negative opinions on Nitros that has come from thier past. They have come leaps and bounds since the early to mid 90s when they got their "reputation". I am a football coach and won't be out for a while otherwise I would give you a ride. If you are in Rolla, let me know and I will be glad to show you around mine.
  21. what is the best structure I sould be looking for. backs of coves, up the river, flats? etc?
  22. Gonna probably be sidelined until October. Have a small club tourney then. What should I expect to throw and what areas of the lake are best in October. Thanks
  23. sold
  24. There is nothing wrong with harvesting a few bass anyway. As long as they get eaten and not wasted and the bigguns get released, there's no harm in eating a few keepers. Bass are quite good.
