Ham I with you some tying is just a chore I keep it as simple as possible. For stone flies I carry two different patterns the Pat's rubber leg and the 20 incher stone both are heavy and simple to tie that's good because I lose a lot of them. One or the other always seems to get the job done if you wanted to keep it even simpler you could even skip the 20 incher and just tie a big prince nymph instead.

Help With Goose Biots - Prince Nymph
sean c replied to mic's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Mic I mainly use the dubbing ball to splay and tie them on one at a time method unless I'm tying a copper john then the dubbing ball looks stupid behind the wire. The problem with tying them on one at a time is getting the length to match up exactly but when I pair them and tie them on at the same time I always struggle getting them on straight but the fish don't really seem to mind. Goose biots are definitely one of those materials that have a learning curve. -
Not knocking it mic that's for sure matter of fact comparing the two is probably a little silly. If I had a year off to fish and had to choose one of the two I'll take the ozarks. Give me a month off if the summer or fall I'm going to Montana as long as I can fish the ozarks the rest of the year.
-
I'm late to the party but I would pick the Ozarks for one main reason and that's the weather you can find outstanding trout fishing in the Ozarks 12 months a year. I know this is a trout discussion but also the diversity of fisheries and species are another strong draw to the Ozarks vs Montana. I fly fish in the Ozarks 12 months a year and there is always something good happening. I would hate to live somewhere where I could only do what I love 6 or less months out of the year and chasing just trout would get old.

The fall is a little hit or miss and the river is low and clear but doable in a drifter. Just spent 4 days there the leaves are starting to change it is a great time to float there. Stay at sunburst do Kelly to sunburst one day and sunburst to the landing the next. You will see all of the trout portion of the river on these two floats.

CWF I love Door county we spent a week up there around the time you are going last year. Weather/wind will definitely be a factor especially in a kayak I took my 15ft jon and basically played around in the bays anything main lake will likely be a no go. I spent most of my time trying to chase carp on the flats with my fly rod but they weren't up did pretty decent on smallies. My favorite areas were Ellison bay, Baily's harbor and the far north end of Newport sp where the kayak launch is. Didn't get to fish peninsula sp the wind never allowed it plus it was a pretty busy area. Avoid egg harbor and fish creek way to crowded you will be there during peak season. The fish weren't up shallow when we were there but we had crap weather a lot of the houses on the bay with boat docks have blown out channels in the flats to get in and out of the bays any time I found one smallies were stacked up in them. Bailys harbor is worth doing for the kayak trip alone there are some pretty good ship wrecks there to view but its a decent paddle and beware of the wind. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Floor Mats In Your Trout Boat?
sean c replied to mhowerton's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
No problem. I put it on plywood and aluminum I'm sure it would be fine on fiberglass matter of fact I will put some on the false floors of my driftboat if the fiberglass ever starts to get slick. When you put it down I'm pretty sure it's there for life. So far it's as good as advertised had it a couple of years now. -
Floor Mats In Your Trout Boat?
sean c replied to mhowerton's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I put a product called seadek in my jon boat I love it but it's super expensive. You can buy it in sheets cut it to shape and then it just has an adhesive back that holds it to the floor. My only concern was my lab tearing it up but so far so good. -
NS loop for all unweighted streamers. I use for weighted streamers but I don't think it matters a clinch would be fine I just trust the NS loop more. Regular clinch for everything else and I tie my droppers off the bend of lead hook.

That was a beautiful rainbow. Nice job Amy!

You can leave your truck there I have never had any problems just make sure you do your best to park it out of the way it's tight back there.

Dylan congrats on the new purchase you will love fishing the NFOW from a drifter.

Good call Sunday it rained and stormed hard starting about 1:00 only lasted an hour or so. Wade fished for trout a little yesterday it was good. Doing Hammond to Blair today. The water color and flows are really good for this time of year.
-
You could also wade fish around Blair campground between there Justin's and Patrick you can make a day of it at 700 you should be fine. The negative is this time of year the public accesses can get crowded I would rent a boat if you don't have all day go from Justin's to Patrick or Blair to Patrick tons of good water.

Nice rick! You need to start getting after those dudes with your fly rod.

North Fork Brown Trout Stocking Expedition
sean c replied to The Troutdoorsman's topic in North Fork of the White River
You need to bribe Rusty with some cold beverages to "accidentally" spill some extra fish in certain areas next year. Rusty were the fish all the same size? -
Wadeing Trip Of A Lifetime (North Fork)
sean c replied to ruthead's topic in North Fork of the White River
There are four public access points in the trout water three are at or near where bridges cross the river if you stay at sunburst or river of life there is also good wade fishing on their properties. Like Brian said you could make a day or two of it but I think it's pretty limited for a week long fishing trip. The nice thing is if you wanted to do more when you are there you could always rent canoes for a few days or hire a guide for a day and do a driftboat trip. -

With no canoe and a weeklong trip I would mark nfow off the list others may have a different opinion. -
Wadeing Trip Of A Lifetime (North Fork)
sean c replied to ruthead's topic in North Fork of the White River
There are tons of wading spots on the nfow but most are accessed by some type of watercraft if by wading trip you mean walk in wading access I would take the nfow off your list. If you are willing to rent/bring a canoe to travel down the river and just get out and wade fish at good looking spots the nfow would be a great choice.
