My brother came down from STL last night, so after visiting for a few and tying some flies, we decided to go hit the water. We got to the parking lot about 11 p.m. and there was not another car to be seen anywhere???? The water was off and just about all the way down.
We couldn't believe we had the whole place to ourselves! We started fishing below outlet 1 and worked our way to the flats. Several missed bites, quite a few hook ups and LDR's, and lots of fish to hand. The fish were in a feeding frenzy on the flats. We did catch a few fish in the 18-19 inch range up there. After fishing the flats for a while we just slowly worked our way down to the point fishing the whole place all the way down. Fishing pretty good just above the rebar, nice just below the tree below rebar, a little slow through the gauntlet, and good again down at the point. While fishing the point I got a super huge (WIND KNOT) and had to take some time to get everything untangled. By the time I was done I had ice on 2 fingers....Ouch!
We went back up to the flats, the moon came out and the fish just shut down around 3 a.m. We only picked up one more fish on the flats.
The only fly used........The BFE (Boiled Flamingo Egg) Now this is a rediculously huge egg pattern that normally you would think, No Way.....but the fish were all over it.
We used Stanley's Ice-Off Paste to help keep the eyelets from freezing up. I was impressed and think it helped alot. We did still get ice, but it was managable.
We got a few pictures last night and if I can get them off my brother's camera, I will post.
Great night fishing!
