For your 1st trip up there I would recommend the guide package. Lots of water up there to fish and some different techniques that will pay off big time with a guide. Once you learn them, the other option would be ok. The only additional cost to bringing fish home is what the airlines charge for extra baggage. duckydoty

I saw one burried under some leaves at a privately owned pay trout park. That was the only place I saw one. Must have been something he ate?????????

Heck no! I'm gonna go duck hunting with my soon to be better half. If it were not a special draw hunt, I'd be there tying flies all day. No goose/duck poppers this year. Dang it man! duckydoty

I had the pleasure to fish with Phil yesterday on upper Taney. We started about noon thirty at the big hole and worked our way down to the boat ramp. We were targeting midging fish in the shallows, but the fish were not really midging at all. Phil finally got the first hook up and fish to hand about an hour into fishing. It took me a little longer to make a solid connection with a fish. Phil had to work as my spotter. The fishing was extremely slow from the Big Hole down through the Rocking Chair. I was throwing soft hackles and small crackle backs, Phil was throwing midges. We started picking up more fish as we worked the rocky bank on the way from Rocking Chair to the boat ramp. That stretch saved us or at least me from a skunk. We stopped fishing about 3:30 and I ended up with 5 or 6 fish. At a little after 4:00 p.m. DD'sMC showed up and was ready to fish. I had her rigged up for night fishing with an indicator and heavier line so she did not do so good until it started getting dark. Once it got dark, she was unstoppable. I picked up a few more fish on the flats below outlet 1 before it got dark on a black soft hackle. The fish were midging like crazy up there. One fish charged the fly just as soon as it hit the water from more than 10 feet away. The water was turned on at dark and I switched to the lighted indicator. DD'sMC and I fished the rising water till about 7 p.m. We caught several fish while the water came up. Once the water topped out the bite was off. What started out as a slow day ended with a bang and as always any day fishing is better than a day working! duckydoty

Some fellas like a shore lunch. What are the unforseen problems with keeping and 11 incher by the pavillion area and wanting to put it on the grill. Is that legal?

This post is generating alot of questions about flies so I thought I would post the answer to a few questions here. I have no top secret flies, but I do like experimenting and finding new things that work down there. The primrose and pearl soft hackle is just about like the bead headed primrose and pearl midge. The tail or body is tied the same way with copper wire and flashabou. I use some pearl light bright for a thorax and then 3 wraps of starling hackle for a collar. The fly works great! The brown ostrich herl crackle back is just a smaller version of a crackle back. When tying a 16 or smaller crackle back I was having trouble finding hackles small enough for the hook size. Ostrich herl was the answer. I still use peacock for the back and just palmer the ostrich as if it were the hackle. This is not a very tough fly and I might incorperate some ultra fine wire to reinforce the ostrich a little. When midging, the fish are focusing on midges (of course) which are a lot smaller than the normal crackle back. These smaller ostrich crackle backs seemed to be exactly what the fish wanted. Hope all this helps, Duane

We started fishing at 10:00 a.m. The water was dropping with 0 generation. Had a few new flies to try out and while I was rigging up, I had motroutbum throw one of the flies to some midging fish right next to the boat ramp. Second cast and fish on! The new primrose and pearl soft hackle did not take long to prove itself. We went up to the rocking chair area while the water was dropping and fished in the shallows at some more midging trout. This time we tried the new ostrich herl crackleback. The brown ones worked great. We picked up quite a few fish there then decided to move down to look out island. We pulled in at the bottom of the island and fished the slack water on the downstream side. Brown ostrich herl cracklebacks were on fire! Fished around the whole island catching several fish then headed down to the flats below Pointe Royale and then on to the clay banks. Did not do so well down in these areas. Headed back up to the rocks above the boat ramp to finish the day with more fish on the brown ostrich herl cracklebacks. Not many people out today even though the water was off. Great day of fishing. duckydoty

I sooo bad wanted to see a picture here but could not find one either, so I'm gonna post a few. Maybe the fish falls some where in between. -
Nice fish Tim. Cold weather tends to keep a lot of folks in for some reason. duckydoty

I took my fiance' to work this morning, which happens to be real close to Taney. After dropping her off I called the current generation number and the water was off again, so instead of turning left to head home, I turned right to head to Taney. 3 minutes later and I was in the parking lot. I fished the shallows on the north side of the point and big hole. Lots of fish were midging and rolling around for sow bugs and scuds. Started with stripping crackle backs. I was catching fish, but not as many as I felt I should have. I switched to a grey soft hackle size 14 and the catching got better. Had to cast with a soft touch or the fish would bolt. A couple of strips, a pause, a couple more strips and bang.....fish on! Great morning for fishing! Get out there and enjoy the warm weather while you can! duckydoty

Fishing Report For Tuesday Late Afternoon Till Dark
duckydoty posted a topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I didnt notice that the water was off today untill around noon. I was out doing arrands and still had a few to finish up, but after one call to the current generation number I decided the chores would have to be cut short. Got down to the boat ramp around 3 p.m. and fished from the old KOA down to just above Fall Creek. Threw nothing but crackle backs at the dimples in the water which were everywhere. Had fish chasing on just about every cast and numerous hookups. Just before dark the horn blew and water started rising right about the time it was getting too dark to see. I ended up with several fish to hand in the 14 to 16 inch range. All fought well and took off immediately upon release. I did notice a few dead fish in the water. Hopefully we will stop seeing that soon. Size 16 crackle backs in a light brown color seemed to work best for me. Just before the sun went down under the tree line down by Point Royal, I looked up stream and saw clouds of light colored midges rising into the air catching the last few rays of sunlight. Literally hundreds of thousands that looked like fog. I wonder what the fish are eating???? I hope the Corps gets into the habit of shutting the water down to give us a few more days like today. duckydoty
