The wood is cheap, but you can expect to spend $200 or more on the fiberglass and epoxy resign. I think I have about 12-15 yards of fiberglass and a couple gallons of epoxy resign sitting around. Much more talk about this, I might just talk myself into starting another one. duckydoty

I use to have a couple of books that I borrowed to someone. I guess they are still using them, but that was 12 years ago I came up with my own design and made all my own forms. It was very water worthy. I use to run limb lines on the Missouri river with it. I ended up donating it to a little girl that had lukemia for a charity auction. I have since made a Montana Guide boat out of 1/8" thick luan and fiberglass. I used it for duck hunting, but have been considering using it at Taney. I need to re-glass the boat. The constant itching after sanding fiber glass is the only thing that has been stopping me from fixing that one up. I'd almost rather start over with making another cedar strip canoe in more of a kayak style for Taney duckydoty

When my son was 5 and my daughter was 3 we built a cedar strip canoe as a summer project together. They actually helped and after putting in about 75 hrs of work, we had a very beautiful canoe. Yes, it was easy. It took some time, but was a lot of fun to build I've been considering making another in the near future. duckydoty

Not all of us have alternative motives in mind when we go out of our way for charity or to help another human out. I volunteered to help clean up Hickory Creek this year--What could my alternate motive be for busting my @$$ for 12 hours---It surely wasnt to be able to fish a cleaned up Hickory Creek because I for danged sure wouldn't drive that far to fish for trout when I can go to Taney. What is the alternative motive for setting people up for trout fishing down a Taney when I find out they are from out of town and never caught a trout before??? Is it just so I can spend another $4.00 on the tapered leader that I gave them and another $20.00 on the 12-18 fly assortment I gave them so they might have a little success. I dont think so. It is just to help someone out. Well, you could be right ----- Getting a Thank You has always been worth it! duckydoty

An 8 wt was perfect for that. I usually use a 6 wt at night unless its Fall or I'm throwing really big stuff. duckydoty

Well, Leonard showed up last night. Everything pretty much cleared up down there around midnight to 1:00 A.M. and the moon even came out. Those of us that kept fishing had a good night. Caught lots and lots of fish duckdoty

I use floating line, but you'll be fine with sinking line. Start off with some sort of white leech, white wooly bugger, white mink, white bunny strip leech, or white zonker. Try both weighted and unweighted. If white does not work and it is foggy, go to red, then purple then grey or olive. Cast across the current and just let it drift, then a few short tugs and a long slow strip, then let it drift again for a few seconds. Use straight 6 or 8 lb test attached to your fly line. No need to bother with a tapered leader or tippet. About 7 to 10 ft of mono should work fine. Dont be afraid to throw big stuff. The rewards could be great.
