  1. Well, we sure are looking forward to seeing you on the water again
  2. I'll look for them Rick. When you gonna try and make it down this way?
  3. 1 unit running right now. Tail water level at 703. Weather is about to break. Looks like its gonna be a good day to try some "Chuck and Duck" style fishing on the upper end. Gonna give it about 30 more minutes (enough time to cook some bacon) then head on out the door for a little slick fishing.
  4. Yep. He did real good. I can remember nights years ago that I would have been tickled pink with 10 fish for a whole night of fishing
  5. Rough day to fish yesterday. I stayed in and tied flies all day. Sounds like you had a pretty good day out there battling the elements.
  6. You could probably get me in with 8x if you got a hook just right in my ear
  7. There is not much difference between the 5 and 6 but enough to make a difference when fishing 7x tippet or trying to get 10 more feet in your cast while throwing a streamer.
  8. They brought the elk to help feed the cougars that were already here. Looks like the plan is working. Saves cattle and kids.
  9. I had a little trouble with it too. Had to update my flash player then open in firefox.
  10. I use a 6wt all the time at night on taney. Use it a lot during the day if I'm stripping streamers.
  11. I taught a buddy to fly fish for trout on Taney about a year ago and he took to it real well. Yesterday, he was feeling a little froggy, and threw a challenge at me. A one on one nighttime fishing derby, most fish wins. I asked him if he was sure he wanted to do this and he said absolutely. Well, we got down to the water and started fishing the rebar hole a little after 8 p.m. It was a slow start. We fished about an hour, leap frogging down stream working our way to the old big hole area. I started with olive pine squirrel sculpins and picked up only two fish in the first 30 minutes. Changed to black for a while and nothing. Got down to the big hole and changed to a white mink sculpin. Started getting a few bites by letting it just dead drift for a little bit, then four very short strips and letting it dead drift again. After the short strips, 5 to 10 seconds later, I started getting some ever so slight and light pick ups. Managed to bring 3 more fish to hand by doing this. We were about an hour into the challenge and we decided to go to the flats between outlets 1 and 2 starting at the top and leap frog down to just above outlet two. The fish score at this time was 5 to 1. Fishing was a little better up on the flats. I stayed with the white mink sculpin and the same 4 small strips and a long pause. We fished up in that area another hour and I picked up 12 more fish. They were all a little better sized than the ones down by the rebar hole and one was a beautiful 17 inch brown that just hammered the fly as soon as it hit the water. After working that area and making the assessment the fishing was pretty slow, we decided to head down to the old KOA flat. The score was now 17 to 6. My buddy was taking it pretty good, but still showed signs of hope and confidence that he still had a chance to put a whoopin on me. The fishing was a little more fast paced and even better quality fish than up on the flats between outlet one and two. I was still using the white mink sculpin and the 4 strip pause retrieve. Catching several rainbows in the 13-15 inch range, I had two of the mink sculpins completely shredded by the end of the night. I was getting bites, not just one, but several on every drift. I tried several times to land 10 fish in 10 casts but would usually mess it up right around 6 or 7 fish in a row. My best runs ended up being 10 fish in 11 casts and 10 fish in 14 casts. We only fished about an 80 to 100 yard stretch and were in fish the rest of the night till the horn blew at midnight. The final score ended up being 53 to 17 in a little less than 4 hours of fishing. What started off as a fizzle of an evening ended up being a real bang of a night for fishing.
  12. Come on up and say hey.
  13. That biggun I had been seeing last week got caught 2 nights ago by some fella. Just over 12 pounds. I think Phil posted a photo of it on ozark anglers website.
  14. Well, it's kinda like work
  15. Worked over on Indian Point today and after work, since I was close, I decided to see what was happening down at Taney. Parking lot was pretty full. 3 guys were fishing the outlet, and the rebar hole was shoulder to shoulder. No one was fishing the flats above outlet so that was where I headed. Wind was blowing directly up stream with some good chop on the water. I tied on an olive pine squirrel sculpin and started stripping. I think it took all of 2 casts to catch my first fish. Short fast strips through the chop worked best. Ended up fishing about an hour and probably caught 15 fish never changing flies or location. Three of the fish I caught were squirting eggs and most of them were in the 14 to 15 inch range.
  16. You are absolutely tearing them up! Awesome. I was woking out at Indian Point today and the lake was beautiful. Wanted to be out there bad today.
  17. I saw you two come out there. We headed down to the old KOA area just after you arrived. Punished little bows on the pine squirrel sculpin right where you two were fishing for a couple of hours before you got there. Glad you got out and enjoyed the day. It sure turned out to be a fine one. Happy retirement to your wife!

  19. Went down there and gave it a shot again today. Had him on for about 1.3 seconds. Took me to school real quick. Had the whole place to ourselves till the rain stopped. When the sun came out, it looked like a weekend down there.
  20. There have been a couple of big bows hanging out down there. I've seen one about 30 inches long a couple of times and know 2 people that have had him on in the last week. Most of them are in the 10 to 13 inch range but there are a few nice ones down there.
  21. It looked like a good day to be out there. I opted to spend the whole day tying flies. Got 13 dozen done so far.
  22. Just as I was getting ready to walk out the door to go to work this morning, the boss called and said it was too cold. I sat down at the vise for a little while and tied up a few dozen flies then headed for Taney. Not many people down there before noon. Went to the chute above the rebar hole and had a great time catching several bows stripping pine squirrel sculpins. Lasted about 4 hours before loosing all feeling in hands and feet.
  23. Nice report. Glad you got out before the weather got wet!
