It will take about an hour to 1 1/2 hours for the water to go down after they shut it off tonight. I would use a 5 or 6 wt rod with floating line and streamers. Streamers to include but not limited to mohair leaches, slump busters, pine squirrel sculpins, wooly buggers and so forth. Definately bring white. Some other colors to have are olive, black, purple, and red. Size of the streamers should range from 6 to 12 both weighted and none weighted. If you know the area very well then the flats between outlet one and two should be good and the lower part of the gauntlet below the downed tree to the point should also be good. Dont forget to fish the shallow water behind the point also. To fish the streamers I would start by casting directly across the current and just let it dead drift through the swing then strip slowly back in. Also try quarting the current down stream and let dead drift then strip back in. If those done produce for you, try varying your retrieve. If you dont get a bite in 10 casts, change something up, either color, weight of fly, or retrieve, until you find out what and how the fish want it. Good luck and be careful

Hey, I saw you and your father there. Conehead, DD'sMC and I were fishing just above you most of the day. You guys gave me the impression that you were doing very well. Seems like everytime I looked over there, you had a fish on. Looks like you caught a nice one too. I did catch a couple of browns up where I was fishing also. One looked like a female full of eggs. She might have just been really fat???? I just looked at your picture again in full size. Thats me and DD'sMC in the background!

Finally I got to fish with my wife today. We had a great time at RR. Conehead is in town from Pa. and he also joined us on the river. My wife and I both caught quite a few fish on bead head nymphs. I was fishing without an indicator and she was fishing with one. Before it was all over, DD'sMC was also fishing without an indicator and doing very well. I did fish with a T&A Rainbow for a while and did catch one that went about 5 lbs. I also caught another nice fish on the bead head nymphs and got a photo of it. Conehead was doing well also. I saw him catching quite a few on dry flies. We also ran into Tim down there. There was lots of ice on the bank and a few places were very slippery. Good day to be out fishing with a very uncrowded park.

I got my info about the hog through the South West Regional Office of the MDC there in Springfield.

I would spend my money on a good fly line first. Then worry about the rod, then the reel. If you dont have a fly line that will cast good, then it doesnt matter what kind of rod you have, you still wont be able to cast it good. The most important thing in the whole operation is a good line that is castable, mendable, and floats when it is supposed to float. The rod just lifts it out of the water, and you can do that with just about any rod. There are alot of people starting to use 10 ft rods on Taney and at Roaring River. Excellent for mending lines and high sticking in some of the faster runs at Roaring River. Rod length is really up to you and how you will be fishing. Most people probably start out with a 9 footer. Also alot of people find it easier to cast further with a longer rod, but you dont need to cast a whole fly line any where around here to fish. The best way to learn to cast distance is with proper casting techniques and practice.
