You do a pretty good job of posting some killer White River reports. Cant say I don't get a little jealous over them! -
I was once told a long time ago, that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. I'm staying in the house today. I too want to stay warm, and dry!

Ahhh, the torment picture….who would do such a thing…LOL!

Went up into the Flat Creek area again this morning. Lots of boats and lots of snaggers out there today. Started above the bridge and checked to flat….nothing. Moved over to some brush on the bluff side and tore the shorts up. Only landed one keeper out of that brush pile. Decided to try 2 spots below the bridge. One log down by the point below the bridge in 9 feet of water had a bunch of shorts on it and then 1/2 way between the bridge and point 15 on the flat in 16 feet of water is a hidden brush pile that I pulled 6 keepers and several shorts out of. While fishing that pile, Quinton the Conservation Agent boated up and checked my license and fish. We chatted for a bit and he moved on up to the bridge area to check more sportsmen. I decided to get out of the crowd around noon and headed down to point 14 area to check some spots I like to fish for crappie. the first spot was occupied so I moved on down to the second spot. It was a transition of bluff to chunk rock that works its way out to a flat. It has some hidden pole timber in it and it was full of mostly short crappie, three giant black crappie and a lot of spots. Fished there about an hour before things slowed down and moved on down to a cove across the lake from point 14. Only 2 short spotted bass out of there. Moved over to the point 14 side and fished some timber on the point across the cove from point 14. Caught nothing but bass out of that area. I caught a bunch of them there, both large mouth and spots. Got tire of catching them and headed back up to the area that was occupied earlier. It is a brush pile almost back behind a large dock and next to a bluff in 30 feet of water. Caught several short crappie and 4 spots out of that. All fish were on 1/16th oz jig heads and Bobby Garland baits. Blue Grass was the best color, but all colors seemed to catch fish. I can not believe the number of bass I caught on crappie jigs today. Ended the day with 13 keeper crappie.

Good looking fish! I watched a guy tearing it up on an A-Rig the other day up in Flat Creek. Might have been you?

Good looking spoony! I was in Flat Creek for a while today. Got a little crowded so I headed down to the point 14 area.

Fished a couple of hours after work yesterday looking for crappie again. Started off way back in Peach Orchard and picked up 5 or 6 crappie on pole timber in 8-11 feet of water with 3 of them being keepers. Went up the James river arm and checked a few more brush piles in some small coves with a swing and a miss. Went all the way back up Flat Creek above the bride and fished lay downs along the first bluff up there and must have caught 35-40 crappie and a few whites up there with most of them being shorts. Did manage to bring home a dozen keepers though. All the fish were caught on 1/16th oz jig heads and Bobby Garland bodies. Color just did not matter. I had 5 rods rigged up with different colors and as soon as I would loose a jig in the brush, I would just pick up another rod and keep catching on a different color. Gonna tray the Long Bend and Wooley Creek area today. Wanna try and stay out of the way of the snaggers.

From Friday night at midnight till Monday morning when most go back to work.

Good looking whites. Its gonna be busy out there this weekend with the snaggers out there. Seen some of the setting up camp on Wed.
-
Looking forward to that
-
you guys done alright. Love the fight them white put up.
-
I was dragging jigs on the bottom
-
Yeah, I was all rigged and tied up for drifting heavy weights and jigs in 20 feet of water with high winds thinking I was gonna tear it up yesterday. Spent all day trying to make it happen……nope, they were up shallow on structure, and I did not figure that out till the end of the day.

I got about 1/2 way up in there around noon and went back out to Stone's flat. Wish I would have kept on going back in there then. I love fishing brush and timber like that in shallow water.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
-
Sweet! Took me all day to figure that out. Nice meeting you guys out there!

Went back to the point 15 area about 10 a.m. and caught my first keeper crappie in 20 feet of water about 10 minutes into fishing. Did not catch another one keeper till after 4. The wind was blowing hard and I worked every inch of the Peach Orchard and Stones Flat in all depths of water and just could not find a keeper that wanted to bite. Did pick up a few shorts here and there but nothing to pattern. Finally ran all the way up Flat Creek till the deepest water I could find was 5 feet and worked may way back out. Caught a nice chunky small mouth way up there and a short crappie here and there on the way out. Got into a big flat area and started picking up a bunch of small male whites in 5-7 feet of water along with a few short crappies. Was just about to give up, go home and have dinner, but wanted to try 2 more spots on the way out. The first spot I pulled up to was stumps in 7-9 feet of water on the flat above the bridge. First cast and a 13 inch crappie. Ended up pulling 7 more keepers out of that stump wade, 4 shorts, and 2 bass. Decided it was time to go about 45 minutes before dark and pulled off the stump. It was a long day that ended with a bang. The crappie have moved up into the shallows and were holding on structure today. Sure wish I made that move this morning instead of working 16-30 feet of water all day in that wind.

Thanks Bill. Even a blind hog finds a nut every now and then… :-)

LOL! There is a reason for the shad. You see, Brother Dave and I have a younger brother, Jason who is about to retire from the Army. When we were all kids, Brother Dave and I took Jason fishing for his first time in a creek behind our house. The target species of the day were creek chubs. We ended up catching a nice one about 6 or 7 inches long and gave it to Jason, who was probably 4 or 5 years old, to let go. Me and Brother Dave went on about our fishing and never gave it another thought. About a week later, Mom and Pop loaded all us kids up in the station wagon one evening and headed to the drive-in movies. All us kids would lay in the back of the station wagon with pillows and blankets and watch the movies till we fell asleep. Jason was throwing a fit this time about he could not find his pillow, and had to have his pillow. We could not understand why he was throwing such a fit about it. There were plenty of pillows, just grab on and watch the movie. Well, we finally found his pillow and found out what the big deal was. He had put that creek chub in his pocket, took it home and put it in his pillow case so he could sleep with it every night. We are going to dehydrate the shad and give it to him as a retirement present!

Plenty of room and plenty of fish out there. That was a great movie scene!
