  1. Got the girls out on Table Rock this morning for some duck hunting. Forecast was for winds out of the southwest at 5 miles per hour and bluebird skies. I knew the perfect spot to have the sun to our backs and pocket water out front. Put out about 4 dozen deeks and wedged the boat blind up under a willow tree. About 10 minutes after shooting time a group of 8 golden eyes came right into the deeks. We gave Delani, my wife's daughter 1st shot. She missed and I tried to play clean up but struck out also. We did not even get the guns all the way loaded and more golden eye were coming in. Swing and a miss by all again. 15 minutes later and a single greenhead came in on my side and I dropped him. Next thing we knew, a group of 25 mallards were locked up out front and coming in hard. The words "Take Em" were uttered and after all the powder in all the guns was fired 2 more green heads were laying on the water. Delani had just bagged her 1st ever green head. 2 more golden eye came in and MonaChari took one and I took the other. Right after that another mallard came by and dropped out of the sky. Saw several more birds today making a couple of high passes each time but I think the sun got a little bright and made us stand out. Not a bad day for hunting on the Rock.
  2. Thanks Marty. Taking the wife and her daughter to hunt Bull Shoals in the morning
  3. That looks like a good hunt to me. I tried a new cove by the dam this morning on Table Rock. Been seeing ducks in there lately. I set up about half way down the cove on the north east side and had a few early mallard fly overs. Took one golden eye after the sun was all the way up and missed on two others then found out the ducks wanted all the way back in the cove. After a couple of dozen landed back there my decoys did not stand a chance. Had to be back home around 10 so I decided to just pack up and save the back end of the cove for another day......like tomorrow or Sunday.
  4. Yeah they motivated me to move on to real fishing equipment and I started buying lamson lightspeeds.
  5. Several years ago I bought a BPS 270 fly reel that had a detent pin for a clicker that would get grit in it and cause the reel to seize usually while fighting a big fish. Hated that reel.
  6. Hunted back on Table Rock this morning around the Coney Island area and only saw 3 ducks from a distance. That hunt yesterday sure did spoil me. We'll get some ducks down here soon enough. Tomorrow will be 23 days in a row of duck hunting.
  7. They said 28000 on last count but have picked up lots of mallards since then, 200 canadas and 3000 snows. There is way more birds than that right now
  8. Went up to Schell Osage with a buddy today and drew pill 28. Thought we were not gonna get a good hunt in but took the recomendations of the guy running the draw and went to F-13. Did not have to hunt the blind there and there was flooded milo and corn in the pool. Set up on the east side of the pool to start and busted 3 green wing teal right after shooting time started. Things slowed pretty quick so around 9 a.m. we packed up all the decoys and moved to the south end of the pool. We no sooner got settled into the trees after re-deploying all the decoys and had mallards cupping up and locking in on us. We had several large groups of birds work us up to 5 and 6 passes all day long. Pulled one more green wing and 7 green heads from the sky. Ended up getting on suzie in the mix also. One of the best hunts I've been on. Id say it rates in the top 3.
  9. Golden eye kept us busy on the Rock this morning. Only had one group of mallards cone by. It was picture perfect and they worked the deeks like a dream making two passes then locking up out from and gliding straight in. I wiffed big time!
  10. Beaver is in good shape. Been using it all last week. A little mud on the left hand side and the courtesy dock is about 6 inches under water, but everything else is in great shape.
  11. Awesome Matt. I struck a big goose egg today. Absolutely nothing flying on the Rock. May try Upper Bull Shoals in the morning or the blind on Coney Island. Have not decided yet. Great job on taking Blake out. Oh, and by the way, what kind of ducks are these??? LOL!
  12. Lookin good. We pulled 2 mallards a golden eye and a Gary down today on TR
  13. Get a blank from Harry Boyd. Good stuff there. I'm sure there are some other local builders, hopefully some of the others will chime in to help you out.
  14. Had the "should a gone with the gut" issue today. Wanted to hunt a small cove on the north side of the lake, but had a buddy that wanted to hunt the point I hunted yesterday and did well at. Not many birds on the point this morning, but checked the cove on the way out and Wow! Must have been 300 mallards tucked back in there. Guess where I'm hunting in the morning?
  15. Been doing good on Table Rock for about 5 days now. Lots of rafters, the golden eye showed up in force, the mallards are willing to work, and of course, the gadwall are filling in the slow spots. Picked up a scaup, two golden eye, two gadwalls, and a mallard today. Had several other unbelievable misses today and quite a few moments of me just sitting there watching them land in the decoys but not shooting. Can't wait to get out there again in the morning.
  16. Good one Brian! Keep them coming. 44 more days of duck hunting, then I'll get back on the vice.
  17. Waders, net, foreceps, and indicators might come in handy
  18. I hunted 10 mile pond about 8 or 9 years ago the last week of the season and the only birds we saw that day were canvasbacks. Could not shoot any of them then. We saw around 50 of them that day.
  19. I had four loons in the deeks this morning Rick. Had a few flocks of snows coming over all day. Hope to get on some birds in the morning. Hoping for snow! Oh, and where's the crappie reports?
  20. Saw a few more ducks today and a lot of bass boats. Had one mallard Drake drop in the deeks and that was it as far as getting goes. Lots of snows flying over. Can't wait to get back out there in the morning.
  21. Good launch at Rockaway Beach. One of the canvasbacks was just coming out of eclipse the other was in full colors. The blue bills were perfect. Late December to mid January is when we got them.
  22. I got both canvas backs and ringnecks on lower Taney last year
  23. Hoping tomorrow will be a little different on Table Rock. I've decided to stay off Taney till some more ducks show up. Hoping the bigger water of Table Rock will attract the new comers first.
  24. Nothing flying this morning. Only seen 3 ducks, one group of Canada's and one small group of snows. Slow morning so I brushed the blind up some more.
  25. I forgot to mention all the snows flying way overhead. It was more than enough to keep up excited all morning.
