All law makers are get information from lobbyist. There are good lobbist (the ones that you agree with) and bad lobbist ( the ones that you disagree with). Thats why you send your donations the groups like DU, NRA, TU, AGC, HBA, and all of the other alphabet soup groups that avocate for their issues. Even the eligible voters are effected by lobbyist buying advertisment to avocate a position. That is good. It seems that if you disagree with a position, the folks avocating for that position is a lobbyist and if you agree then their an avocate. The last time I checked, we live in a Representive Republic and elect Representives to go to J-City and or Washington to represent our state. They have the time, resources and staff to become informed of the issues to make decisions that we the people have sent them there to make. We need to allow them the rules to represent the rights of the people that put them in office, and not give away the rights of the state. This state and country has never been a Democracy and hopefully never will be a Democracy requiring the people to vote on every law change.

Thanks bork... where do we send the invitation....

The MDC regs clearly state scented baits are illegal, as are soft plastics. The artifical flies can be constructed of any materials not containing scent or soft plastics. I would think foam being soft, but not plastic and w/o scent should be legal anywhere in the state.

As I understand the issue. The issue is about funding and taking the decision away from the MO State elected officials. The embryonic research is currently legal and this won’t change unless the lawmakers elected by the citizens of Missouri agree to change the law to meet the demands of the citizenship. The supporters of the prop are using all kinds of scare tactic statements about the research that may never happen with or without the research. The people behind this constitutional amendment have been unable to gain control of the state legislature for several elections, and are afraid the people that have been elected by the citizens of the State of Missouri are going to make the decision to change the law in a way that the supporters don't prefer. If this prop passes, the lawmakers in Jeff City will be stuck living with what how the federal law reads unable to react to the desires of the citizens of Missouri. This may not be a bad thing for this issue, but giving away the rights of Missourians can't be best for Missourians. This sets a bad precedent. Lets leave the decision in Jeff City, not in Washington D.C.

Another reason to vote down this constitutional change, is that paragraph 2 of the first page takes the rights to regulate this issue away from the state and places it w/ the federal government. The State of Missouri should have the right to create law that is more restrictive than the federal laws. This constitutional change is also a states rights issue. Again. If you want change, then elect representitives that agree with your position, not a constitutional change that takes the ability away from the people that we elected to make the law.
-
If the legislature can ban it, they can restore the ability to permit the research in the future if and when the political arena changes and the science is determined to be vital. I don't believe this is a constitutional issue. We elect representation to make and enforce law. If you don't want the present situation to change, elect representatives that support your position.

The code is in the Missouri Statues in a PDF file. The is a link on the MDC website.

The MDC regs allow flies and artificle baits only in the restricted zone. The MDC has 4 definitions: Natural baits, Soft plastics, Artificle baits, and Flies. I would say from what I have read in the regs, that the slugo would not be allowed. still unsure about the foam bodies. They are "soft" but not plastic. I think it would be permited if not scented.

Al, I don't agree that it is strictly a religious issue. I see it as a human rights issue as well. Where do you draw the line as to taking human life. I think we can agree that taking of life of an inocent baby is wrong, but this baby will survive if taking from the mother at late stages of pregnacy, and at early stages will continue to develop without intervention. Who has the rights...the mother...the father....how about the fetus. The only clear place of distinction is conception. Any time after that is guess work..striping the right to life away from a human being in the most early stages of life that if left to develope undistured will be borned in this world. So taking the life of a fertilized embryo strips the embryo of the right to life. Would you avoacate doing research on death row inmates. What a waste to eliminate such a valuable speciman that is going to be put to death. I am sure that alot of valuable discoveries could come from this research as well, but I don't think you would aree that this would be right. As I understand the issue, research can currently be performed on embronic stem cells. The change in the law just requires the public to pay the bill. If it is so profitable, then why should the research be paid from the public tax dollars.. Let the people such as yourself that think it is such a form of research reach into your pockets and pay the toll. There are many when funded organizations that can raise the required funding. My 2 cents.

Brown Jersy work gloves. They are cheap. About a 1$ a pair and your can carry several pair for the price of other glove so you always have a dry pair to put on. These are the most versitle of gloves, kinda like the duct tape or bailing wire of gloves. If you want a fingerless version, grab your pocket knife and create your customized gloves. They also work as a handkerchief, and in a pinch will work when nature calls as a great subsitution to T.P with five trys per hand allowing detailed sanitizing. (just don't make the mistake of using as a handkerchief afterwards...gets messy) Try this with your favorite pair of neoprenes or wool fingerless gloves.

Mid to Upper Laak below the Restricted Area
Kicknbass replied to Bill Babler's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Thanks for the report Bill, I wonder what the MDC is thinking by stocking these small rainbows. It seams that their just feeding the brown trout. Good for the Browns, but it doesn't bode well for the mortality of the "bows". -
Look on this web site or Call and talk to David Martin at Ernies Sales and Service out of Ellington, MO. http://www.jetdoctor.net/index.php

Come on Bobber. You can't use a term like "3 monsters" and not give the weight or length. Give it up.... How big were they?
-
I hope they pull off a win Saturday to enable them to rest and realine the pitching rotation to allow Carpenter to start the first game of the next series..

Oh let's not start that topic again. Go to previous conservation issues and read through on the topic. This was quite a hot topic last year.

I agree, Dad gigs do a number on the smaller fish. I guess I have been gigging w/ these for so long it just doesn't seam to matter. I just fillet around the gig marks and move on. When you have a tub full of suckers, and it is close to mid-night, ya just want to get the fish cleaned and get home and hit the sack. How has your season been to date this year. I still need to get my boat rigged for the season. I have been spending too much time coaching my daughters soccer team to get the boat ready.

Randy, My scuds will be mailed tomorrow. I put in a self addressed stamped envelop in the envelop containing the flies. Thanks for your efforts.

The MDC manage fall turkeys just like and in the same regulation packet as deer check out the MDC webpage. Hunting them is more similar to deer hunting than upland game. Standing, stalking and calling with out the use of dogs. Which is much differant the upland hunting. I would leave them w/ the big game.

Well said. Too many folks just start bashing the corporate world. Last time I checked, my paycheck comes from a corporation. I may not like all the things they do, but at least I know where they stand, and they try hard to produce the best product for their customers and are fair to the employees, they must do this because of the competition.

I know I'm bias, but your wrong about the Baker gigs being "too big". Dad's gigs are perfect for any fish that is big enough to mess with. We seldom gig for carp, targeting yellow suckers and redhorse. Dad's gigs are tough enough to beat a hard rocky bottom and take the abuse. There is no need to buy a "few spares" I have seen those pot metal $20 gigs that are made abroad, and I bet they wouldn't last a single night, much less a season of serious gigging. I've been gigging with the same gig for about 15 years and have taken suckers from 1 lb to over 15lbs with the same gig. When you gig at a sucker, miss and hit solid rock and break a prong on one of those $20 gigs you'll wish you would had saved your money. I can see buying one of the cheap gigs to get started, but those gigs are junk. Why would you buy 2or 3 pieces of junk, when you could have a quality gig for a little more that will last you for many years?

I don't get this agrument. If a corporation could develop technology that would allow vehicles to operate on minimal fuel and the vehicle could develop sufficient power and range and the vehicle could be produced at a cost that is reasonable to allow the vast majority to afford the product. The corporate world would jump all over producing and selling the product to reap the profits. Let's face it, the technology is not available yet. I think the government should partner w/ the corporate world to develop the technology to move our economy away from our addiction to Oil. When the technology is developed, and the product can be produced and sold at a profit, the change will happen.

I fish mostly Green Pumpkin and Watermellon seed. Others probably work, but that is what I have the most confidence. The bite can be slow, but will happen all day. Last year, I caught a 23" smallie that pushed 6 lbs at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Dano, This is very difficult due to the brief period that the lighting is visible. By the time the brian (at least mine) tells my fingers to push the button, then I react and push the button, then the camera shutter opens, the storm has past and the sun is out. I have taken a few photos of lightening. I a heavy storm period, you can time the flashes and get lucky. Tough, but the only way I can take photos with my $ 100 camera. Good luck.

Ozark National Scenic Rivers need your input
Kicknbass replied to Gavin's topic in Conservation Issues
Gavin, I made it to the Viking and put in my 2 cents on the SMB management area. I was a nice turn out and the park service personel were very receptive to comments. I got there about 5:30 and saw where you had signed in, but had no way to put a face w/ a name. Sorry, maybe next time.
