  1. defalcation.... I had to look that one up.
  2. I sent him a PM 4 days ago that hasn't been read. I hope he is OK.
  3. Try the Davy Knot. I really like it and use it most of the time.
  4. By the way, the pond in front of Bailey Medical is stocked with some really nice fish. However, they won't let you fish it. The security guard will run you off. Just sayin..... Haha at least you still have your mancard then! That's interesting about that pond though, I've walked the whole thing and caught nothing. I'll have to try it again sometime. I've never thought about fishing that pond....... I'll have to try it sometime. Why does the guard run you off? Is it posted no fishing? How about lake Yahola? At least I assume that's the name, I wouldn't really call it a lake either. But it's that big body of water on your left when your driving south on hwy 75 around the Tulsa Zoo exit. It's wide open, definitely would be a good place for the fly rod, I've only been once though. Yes. It is posted no fishing. However, you can't see the sign unless you drive up closer to the hospital, which I didn't. I just pulled in and parked on the northeast end of the parking lot by the pond. Anyway, the guard drove up in his golf cart, right after I landed a 4lb catfish on a pine squirrel leech, and told me that I couldn't fish there. A buddy of mine works for the hospital and I told him about the incident. He gave me the contact info for the Hospital Administrator and I called her and asked if I could have permission to fish the pond, catch and release only. She said that she didn't care and that they had to post the no fishing and no swimming signs for insurance reasons. I asked about the guard and she said, "If he comes and tells you to leave, do it. But, if you wait till he makes his rounds, he rarely gets back out, so it was up to me." I got a good chuckle on that one, but I don't feel comfortable fishing there now. I have not fished the impoundment by the zoo since I was a kid, some 40 years ago. Back then, I remember seeing lots and lots of snakes. I hate snakes. Maybe that is what has kept from going back.
  5. Tells you how often I go to any of those stores. I forgot that there was a Kohl's there. I've fished that pond behind Walmart also. Same results, 0 fish. My daughter's boyfriend says that there are some fish in there but they are stacked up at the west end by the inlet. I haven't gone and tried that end. By the way, the pond in front of Bailey Medical is stocked with some really nice fish. However, they won't let you fish it. The security guard will run you off. Just sayin.....
  6. Is this a prelude to "Men who stare at Trout"?
  7. I got started fly fishing later than some. (early 40's) I've always been a fisherman. I owned several varieties of spin cast equipment and had several tackle boxes full of lures for different species of fish. However, Golf was really my activity of choice. Fly fishing, initially, was a once a year trip with my Dad and brothers. When my back and ankles started bothering me too much to play golf, I started focusing more on fly fishing. I found this forum and utilized it, extensively, before each of our Father/Son annual fishing trips. The byproduct of using this forum resulted in me meeting Zach Bearden, one day, on the Lower Illinois. Some of you know Zach, also. He is a very nice young man and he took time out of his day to fish with me and even gave me a few flies. Whether he knew it or not, Zach inspired me to begin tying my own flies. That is what really kicked off my addiction to this hobby/sport/black hole that sucks in all of my time... I, very rarely, use a spin cast anymore. I'm not an elitist. I just have more fun catching fish on a fly rod with flies that I tied. I'm not a trout or salt water snob, either. I'll chase any species of fish with a fly rod, if given the choice. Tight Lines, Brothers and Sisters!
  8. Tully, I don't know of a pond by Kohl's. There is a pond by Panera and it's overflow drains, under the highway, into the Home Depot pond. However, I do not know if there are still fish in that pond. Recently, it was mostly drained and then refilled, to accommodate an apartment complex land development project. While the project cleaned and landscaped the banks of the pond, I don't know if it did the pond any favors. Time will tell.
  9. Nice pics Nick!
  10. Normal size 5wt. Bruisers like that act like they are King of the Pond.
  11. I couldn't resist posting in this thread. I live in Owasso which is a suburb north of Tulsa, OK. There are several ponds nestled among the housing editions in this town. I have been here long enough to watch this town grow from a small town to a healthy suburb with restaurants, movie theater and shopping malls. I got a late start, early 40's, on fly fishing and fly tying. I have had many enjoyable evenings, after work, hitting the ponds in my area with a fly rod and various flies. The pond by the Home Depot is the one that I fish most often. I can always catch fish on this pond. Bass, Bluegill, perch hybrids, etc.. I usually use my 5wt, unless I am specifically targeting Bass, and then I use the 7wt. I'll take a pic of the pond and post it to this thread later. For now, here's a pic of a nice hybrid which was caught on a modified version of a McGinty that I tied on a jig head hook.
  12. I have family in the Siloam Springs area. I'll have to make some time to fish that section. Thanks for the feedback.
  13. Gavin - That's a great idea! I see Angel Hair at J. Stockards. It says that it comes in shanks. Do you cut it up into 1 or 2 inch pieces?
  14. I like that. I'm gonna tie a few up. I've never fished the AR section of the Illinois River. Is it cleaner water than the OK section? Is there a map of the AR section with access points?
  15. I'm more concerned about the water temperature than I am about water clarity. The temp appears to be OK for now. It's good that we've had cooler than normal temps for this time of year.
  16. I've never caught either of these fish, so I am uninformed of the species. What's the difference between a Chain Pickerel and a Pike?
  17. "In this century it is difficult to find a man such as Lilley. He is a man of his own, and I think he likes it that way." Nicely done. I think the writer hit the nail on the head with that statement. Congrats, Phil.
  18. Most recent instantaneous value: 8,950 04-19-2013 14:30 CDT
  19. That was a great blog. Thanks for sharing!
  20. Nick, check out this link: http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/power/hydropower.html#TOP click on the Gauge Data link for Tenkiller. What I have found is , as long as the Elevation Feet is greater than the Flood Control Pool Bottom, 632 feet, the Corps will generally run 1 or more units 24/7. Once the Elevation Feet drops to 632 they will turn it back over to SWP to use for generation purposes.
  21. Ha! I hear ya, OB. I'll try to better manage my expectations.
  22. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, every time the mail runs. I can't wait to see these flies and fish them.
  23. Bump. What's the status on our swap? Getting the itch to chase some fish. Can't wait to see the bugs.
  24. That is the correct location. However, they tore the dam out. What's left is just the rubble and a spillway.
