Fished a few nights ago from about 8 p.m. until about midnight.
-
We were on the water about an hour before the weather turned on us.
Lightning ran us off for about an hour. Then we got back to it and fished
in the rain the rest of the night. Rain, rain and more rain.
-
Water temps on the Grand Glaize were between 81 and 83. Air temps were
about the same (I would guess, maybe a little cooler)
-
We threw Cabelas 2" Rad Shads all night, and had our best luck on the Firetiger
and Crawdad color. (a few on the blue chrome)
-
Holding the boat, parallel to shore with the light on, casting a glow on
the shoreline. The boat was in about 15-20 foot of water, we would make a
cast towards shore, or parallel to shore. Just a slow, steady retrieve,
you could occasionally feel the bottom if casting towards shore, but the
most of the fish were hitting in about 8-10 foot of water. When we could
feel the lure bumping through some shad, we would slow down, if not stop
the retrieve for a second; and occasioanlly get bit.
-
We caught a mixed bag of small whites, several angry stripers hanging well over
the end of my 18" board (couldn't find my scale......ggggrrrr), several
keeper blacks, some monster crappie, and some nice sized cats too!
-
We were fishing lonnnnng, main channel shorelines with gradually sloping
pea gravel banks. And one steeper bank, but if they had the pea gravel;
that seemed to be key.
-
The action didn't really start until after dark. So get out there and
tear 'em up!
