    Apparently not Gavin.

    Dow 20,000

When the music stops, who do you think will be left standing without a chair? It sure won't be Wall Street or corporations or the very rich. Once again, the shrinking middle class will bear the brunt of the shameful incompetent greed of the very few.
  5. Some pictures of my trip last week to Albion, NY to fish for steelhead on the Oak Orchard River, a tributary of Lake Ontario, just a few miles away. A longtime friend, who lives in Frederick, MD, invited my wife and me to come out and visit the week of Dec 12th, with the plan of the two of us leaving Wed the 14th and drive 6 hours north to fish, while my lovely wife stayed behind in Frederick to visit and leave separately (I just can't make that awkward sentence work. Anyway....) t These are my first steelhead that I have caught. I was 0 for 2 in Michigan before this. It is truly "combat" fishing, a lot of walking, a lot of cold weather and adverse conditions, a lot of hours of fruitless casting....I LOVE IT!

    What's Cooking?

Ach. There was an article in GQ or Esquire where someone tried to raise xx amount of money in 48 hours, and one of his ideas was to sit in Central Park and have people throw (tomatoes? ) at him for money, get their aggression out, so to speak. I'm shocked Mr B head would freeze a heritage foodstuff to fling at yours truly. Shocked. I don't know who you were conversating with, but I can assure you he is a degenerate liar, and might even be a lawyer.
  7. At least you fished Gavin. Cheers.

    What's Cooking?

Of course I have a keyboard! Can you imagine knocking on your neighbors doors night after night telling them what you're making for dinner? Gracious. How about a joefest at the Current River Tan Vat access? Everyone can bring an organic, free range, hormone free, humanely raised and harvested food item, then, for a cash price, which will be donated to a food pantry, throw it at me while I sit in a chair, some feet away. We will then toast our good fortune with any kind of liquid, and then struggle to catch trout on the Current. ?

    What's Cooking?

No one dwells. Yes yes yes, I like your post, but, check this out , look what I made (am making)' great! But look at this!... superb! I made this today! looks good! Moving on, I'm doing .... omg! Brilliant, so, look what I did with .... clever. Today I'll blow your mind with fresh picked... i know, but, back to me, my grandmother made .... ahhhh, I remember that... Anyway, I made this variation on... ohh . I'll like that. So, what I'm cooking now... Yes! So underutilized! Good point. Let's get back to my original recipe.... Korean! Just excellent!.. Perfect! Here's a picture of my fried chicken.. look what I did with my turkey and boiled socks leftovers.... no no no I have this... Congradulations ... But, back to what I was cooking, and, you guys should pay attention... ?
  10. Hopefully someone will fish instead of taking construction pictures. Good grief. Who gives a f*** about Baptist Camp. Trout are still in the stream. Never mind. I like bulldozers too.
  11. North Carolina Central is not exactly a powerhouse. But it is a school that Mizzou and Kim Anderson, in his third year, were defeated by on their home court. Which, basically, and should, seal Coach Anderson's fate. He is done. Granted, he walked into a mess, and that's not even counting his remaining players. But, a coach and his team must show improvement. I don't see any. Also, it's not as if the SEC is getting worse. In fact, as a conference it's getting better, and I don't see Mizzou competing in any meaningful way. While a nice story, former player coming back to his alma mater to rejuvenate a problem program, it proved too much for a successful D2 coach. It will be a difficult sell to bring someone of consequence to Mizzou, but they must try, and try hard.

    What's Cooking?

Hmm, Fire Pot. Is that a cooking method or what happens later on the toilet?
  13. Serving food at a homeless shelter. Probably turkey and mashed potatoes. Green bean casserole is a strong contender for side #2.

    River Bass

Whatsa a Mitchcraw? Sounds like a scam to me.
  15. We only hurt the ones we love. It's all good fellas.
  16. It was a great fish for me. Long armed it to make it look bigger. As if.
  17. Brian- ??
  18. Not to be flip, but one must go where the fish can be caught. Buzz, I don't know where you fish or how often, but, in order to catch winter fish, they have to be there in the first place. It's no accident that big smallies caught in the winter are caught on streams that generally produce big fish anyway. You are limited, but not shut out, by using a kayak. Sorry, they didn't tell you that. It certainly helps to have a boat with a motor.
  19. Scott, you are absolutely making things happen on the STL Meramec. Good on you. Makes me feel less than fresh though, seeing you take advantage of opportunities in our own back yard (that I ignore completely). That is what a true fisherman does. Goes fishing. Whenever. Wherever. Splendid Mr Smalliebigs.
  20. Thanks fellas, please, keep the applause coming. Kidding, kind of. Mr Terrierman, you wouldn't believe the kevlar forest on the bottom of the canoe below me. Among other repairs. And I wasn't joking about the duct tape and caulk either. Mr Snagged, I fail to see a smile in those pix. At most, I usually can only muster a grimace. The largemouth was easily 5 pounds, and a rough rod measurement put it at 24 inches. Love to all.
  21. Yes, it is quite a feat to make my thighs look even worse. Oy. And to think I was once a recruited athlete. Oh, the humanity! OOOF! OUCH! Still, like I tell all my women, " Hey, you might not be first, but you might be next!"
  22. After many years and countless miles and sub standard care, not to mention duct tape and caulk, the plastic finally gave out underneath the stern of my Penobscot 17. The corpulence of the owner , might, MIGHT, have been the culprit of the plastic's early demise. Boo hoo. Bought another Penobscot 17, used, but in excellent condition, this past Sunday. As I knew the Big was fishing pretty good, and was quite clear, and had a willing partner who took a vacation day from work, it was time to get the "new" water vessel wet. Which we did, cnr (Mark) and I. On the middle portion of the Big. Weather was cloudy and calm, river fine. In fact, water temp was still in the 60s. Mark caught the first fish of the day on a topwater bait. He remarked, and seemed pleased, that he was the first to catch a fish in the new canoe. Broke the cherry he said. Well, judging by the size of that cheeseball fish, the canoe I'm sure felt nothing and continued floating feeling vaguely dissatisfied. Until I caught my first fish of the day, as pictured. On a fluke (shocking I know). Fishing was pretty steady the rest of the day, quite a few 13 14 15 inch fish caught, fat and feisty, Toward the end, I caught this largemouth. On a ned rig. Yes. A ned rig. Which I have dissed in the past. I figured a ned was just a different slider worm, a slump buster. But, I have been using it of late with pretty good success. Yes, a lot of dinks are caught. But also, a lot of really decent fish. It's an effective clear water tool. Anyway, here's yours truly with a couple of fish and cigars and dirty fishing shirt interrupted by a sizable paunch.
  23. Then again, I didn't see anyone else either.

    What's Playing Now III

Hank Williams didn't win a Nobel prize. Don't get me started about Bob Dylan getting one.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Wrench, you should be concerned. You didn't finish it. I wouldn't advertise sub standard drinking to the populace. You can do better.
