    Fine Dining Flop

Gawd, even worse. Reverse elitism. "Just a toothless woman grilling fish on a make shift brazier in an alley in San Jicento. Absolutely sublime! Take THAT Thomas Keller!" OMG! A taco truck just pulled up! I mean, they actually GROW their own tortillas!" Gotta go!
  2. It is quite simple fellas. Busting miscreants is bad business. Let's review: 1. Local law enforcement generally knows who the sh^^ disturbers are. However, unless there is a capital crime (murder, rape, armed robbery etc) it isn't worth their time busting people who are most likely neighbors and acquaintances. 2. Local officials have no desire to confront problems that city folk bring to their attention. 3. Local officials are local officials because they don't stir the proverbial crime pot, Land owners and old county families make sure of that. 4. State government does not want to interfere, because it would create work for them, and interfere and interrupt the friendly and effective narrative they perpetuate on a passive public that just wants to hear positive news. 5. As I've said before, for some reason, the State of Missouri is afraid of a white, rural, under educated, over valued, and troublesome population that does nothing positive for civilized society.

Goddammit! Another person having fishing success. (groan) Nice Mr Saluki.(Yay!) (mumble) gotta get back to vacuuming dog hair .... Really though, nice pictures and splendid report with kudos on your angling prowess.
  4. Canada seems a good, mellow place to play. Hope Solo should be OK.

    Popcorn failure. Happens.
  6. Well, at least Coosa reported, successful or not. Not a lot to go on though... Chin up, hopefully something was learned, go get 'em next time!
  7. Although a nice canoe, it's too big for a solo and too small for a tandem, especially with two fishermen. Be brutally honest with yourself: Alone most of the time? Solo. With friends at least half the time? 17 ft . You can always weight the big canoe down if you choose to go solo. Unfortunately, you can't have both. Have an excellent solo or an excellent tandem, instead of a mediocre double duty vessel. (All these people fishing alone. Hmm.)

Also, a larger pasta, like rigatoni or penne or tagliatelle, would be more appropriate in a dish with larger ingredients.

    What's Cooking?

Why rps? Because I didn't like your dish? Or the way I stated my opinion? Because, after all, it is an opinion. Don't you want people to tell you when you have bad breath or your fly is open? It's a comment, not a personal attack. Good grief. It's what guys do. Give each other sh**, sometimes close to the bone. I get it though. If you don't have something nice to say... That way, as exemplified in the featured song in "The Lego Movie" : "Everything is Awesome." I am sorry that I hurt your feelings rps. Wasn't my intent. I will feel bad that someone has to block me. Like a digital black eye. (Why do you want me to have a nice life if you're so angry at me? That phrase always puzzled me).

    What's Cooking?

rps- that is an unmitigated cherry tomato disaster. Give it to the homeless and burn that recipe. Chiffonades of basil should be sprinkled over the entire dish, not pushed to the edges like a wallflower. Same with the goat cheese. Although fresh buffalo mozzarella would be a better choice. Pasta dishes like that should be served already mixed up, not divided into sections. That way, as "family style" dictates, people can serve themselves out of one dish and get all the goodies together, married, without the fussiness of presentation. Of course, the dish would greatly benefit from an addition of veal and pork meatballs or hunks of pancetta. ness- I am appalled that you called me lucid. The very idea. As far as "soiree" is concerned, I won't fret about it. Because I don't use the word. Neither should you.
  11. They'll be busy. Not because of Father's Day, but because it's a weekend in June. Forget specials or discounts. Go very early or very late on these streams, if you want semi pleasurable fishing.
  12. The only sure fire bait for smallies are live minnows and live worms. And a healthy disrespect for rules and the law. Smallmouth fishing in Missouri suffers because of it.

    What's Cooking?

Chefs used to cook food for people. Butchers used to process meat. Bakers baked. Farmers farmed. Now, cooking is competitive. A self grandizing way of putting yourself ahead of others. Where your technique and so called innovation is more important than the meal and the people you are serving. Instead of bringing people together, the current chef culture divides. It is no longer about the meal, but the person who "created" it. Example: Some families in Spain and Italy have been processing meats for generations. No big deal. It's what they do. Now, in America, apparently, butchers have for years got it all wrong. We now have ex accountants chuck the cubicle life, grow a beard, get arm tattoos, dress like a lumberjack and make "salume" and other meat products. And, most egregiously, call themselves "artisans" and their products "artisinal." After three years. Example: Farm to table movement. How many people, and restaurants, have broken their arms patting themselves on the back, because they prepared a meal, "directly from the soil." Gawd. Where did restaurants in the 1980s 1970s 60s 50s 40s 30s 20s get their meat and produce from? The moon? Example: BBQ competition. Where three people judge hundreds. Where good food has been reduced to television events. And the egos it has created. Good grief. I know I'm a negative crank and malcontent who should have better things to do. I don't care. This sub forum I should stay away from. But I won't. I will continue to rant and poke a stick in the current climate of foodism and the people who populate it.
  14. They wouldn't let you in.
  15. Coosa-If you have a time limit, then I'd rather wake up later and fish later. Now, if your limitation is mileage, with no restrictions on going home, then I would put on first thing in the morning and fish to last light. Spend as much time on the water as possible. Again, no time is better than another. Just be on the water and cast everywhere all the time.
  16. I find it hard to believe a fly fisherman who uses Orvis is clueless about Sage. Anyway, there is no difference between the two. Or any other manufacturer. It's all marketing. They are all graphite rods with ferrules. Choose one you like. Not what someone else likes and reviews favorably. YOU YOU YOU. You're the one fishing. That's all that matters, right? What do YOU want? Everything else is background noise.
  17. Well, you're from Kansas, and a Wildcat fan, so, I'm sorry, and good luck.... Ahem..Go above Pyatt.
  18. I'm sure you were (are) good looking too Norm.
  19. It's called "youth" wrench. Remember? I do. F***. I was thin and good looking and single. Now. I'm here.
  20. 1099gl- As Denzel Washington said in "Crimson Tide:" I concur. Which brings me to my point: Advise was asked. Advise was given. Please follow up with a report on your trip.
  21. The longer you are on the water, the better chance you'll catch fish. Which is a statistical fact, not a morning noon or night "fish will hit at this time" fact. That's the great thing about smallies. Time of day isn't relevant. You just have to be on the water. PS: Statistics and odds are why Las Vegas exists. Over the long term, they win. Apply to fishing: the more you fish, the longer you fish, the more successful you will be.
  22. If it was me, today, I wouldn't float it. Still very strong. Also, something to keep in mind. Even if you are a stud paddler, many of the places you want/need to fish will blow right by, and you'll hardly get a decent cast in. Plus, beaching your watercraft to fish a particular spot might be dicey also, given the current CFS and gauge height. You're coming a long way, so, (gag me) "make good choices!"
  23. Jimmy Walker is currently bed ridden with various health issues that require surgery. I would doubt very much if he will return to the canoe rental and shuttling business in the future. I have a person you can call for shuttle and creek info.
