Loggers Lake is one of many beautiful facilities built throughout Missouri and Arkansas by the Great Depression–era CCC. Constructed in 1939–40 by CCC Company 1730 from nearby Bunker, Loggers Lake is a clear, blue 25-acre pool surrounded by green-forested hills. The campground at this end-of-the-road hideaway is a peaceful Ozarks retreat. It’s a great place to hike, swim, boat, fish, or simply relax. http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=HGD115-016

All, Have a chance to run away from home this weekend and I want to go where I have never fished before. I always wanted to try to wade fish where Big Spring enters the Current. I want to fish from the east side of the river, Big Spring enters on the west side of the river. Looking at Google Maps I can see that there is some sort of boat ramp at the Big Spring Camp ground area on the west side of the river. My question is that can you wade across the Current River above the Big Spring confluence at the boat ramp to the east side of the Current River and wade down to the confluence? Is the water to deep in this section of the river to wade across? Thanks

The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance. It is humbling to discover how many of our glib assumptions, which seem to us novel and plausible, have been tested before, not once but many times and in innumerable guises; and discovered to be, at great human cost, wholly false. --Paul Johnson -
All, I think its Blue Springs. Supposed to be deeper than the Statue of Liberty is tall.

All, Eagle Fork Campground outside of Montauk is closed for good ( or till a buyer is found.) My buddy camped there last night and the owner came and told him that there is no more camping allowed. The owners are moving to Arizona. Eagle Fork is still for sale.

Ill Trout Bum, That little white church on the left is really a old one room school house. Stop in a take a look around, its open to the public. Many years ago I was fishing out at Busch Wildlife area in St. Louis and met a man that went to school there. STLfisher, when you go past Baptist turn off the next right, is a small gravel road. right as you turn on the road there is an old barn and most of the time a camping trailer. There is a pasture with some big draft horses there. Follow that gravel road and it gets narrower and narrower, one comes upon a very nice log cabin, on the left, that back in the day it was called Loves Cabin. This is private property, do not trespass. 30 yards down the gravel road you are in the Scenic Riverway land. If you would go straight you will still be in the Scenic Riverway land but I think there are some cabins there that have the lifetime lease/easement from the Park service, kind of like the cabins just below Montauk. Just after Loves Cabin I say by about fifty yards you can take a left down an old logging road/goat path. This is a very rough road, but it will take you down to the river right were the old logging road comes out from Parker Ford. If you do not have a truck/jeep that is set up to go off road DO NOT ATTEMPT!!! Many people cross the river at Parker and walk up the old logging road and fish their way down, I guess about 2 to 3 miles above Parker. The second right from Baptist is the turn off to Parker. Its about a 15 minute drive down to the river. You follow an Ozark ridge for the first 10 minutes, then the last 5 minutes you drop down into the river valley. I have gone down this road in a ford escort, a corolla, all the way to a built 4X4. You should have no problems if you use your head. The road down to Parker does go through to Cedar Grove. If you have a standard cab 4X4 you can make it to Cedar Grove. I would not take any double cab from Parker to Cedar Grove. I was down at Parker in late June when the temp was around 100 degrees. I have to say that the water was not chilled as I have remembered it. Fished for one hour with no hook ups. Hopes this helps and remember, do not try the Loves Cabin road with a standard 4X4 pickup!!!

All, Last time I fished below the dam at Carlyle Lake was 25 years ago. I caught Walleye, Sauger, Large, Small, White, Hybrid Bass, Crappie, Blue Channel and Flathead Catfish, and there were days that I caught ALL of the above. June 11-13 was free fishing in Illinois. Talked my buddy that I used to go fishing with at Carlyle into going fishing at the spillway at Carlyle on Friday, June 11th. Got to the spillway at 5:30 AM and started fishing a white 1/4 OZ tube jig. All I caught were those darn big headed carp. I was hooking the fish in their mouths, not snagging them. These invaders were everywhere. I kept throwing them up on the bank. There was a Chinese person fishing there and he did not want the big head carp, but he did want the 8 lbs drum I caught. What does he know that I do not know? Makes you think? We stopped fishing at 8:30 AM because are spirits were really deflated. The best fishing spot within 50 miles of St. Louis had turned into a big headed carp wallow. The carp were striking at our lures!!!! There were so many of them that you could feel them come up and bump your jig. I strongly feel that the carp will eat anything, not plankton, but the whole lower food chain including game fish fry, eggs, anything they can get in their mouths. I really hope they can gene sequence this invaders and produce a toxin that can just kill these fish!!! Sorry about the rant, but these fish will even force the gar out.

Back in the Day ( Really means before your were born!! ) I use to be able to float the Current and catch some trout ( and some were really big ) around where the Blue and the Big Spring flowed into the Current. Is there still a trout population down there? Its been about 35 years since I have been down that far on the Current and I have a wild hair to go back down and see if the trout are still there. Anybody been fishing and catching trout down there? Don't worry. It would not hurt my feelings to catching some Bass/Google Eye/Sunfish/Walleye down there. Thanks

Guys and Gals, You have to learn how to play the "GAME OF MANNERS." When I am in the trout parks I fish mostly the fly zones except at Mer. Springs. I can hold my own when it comes to catching trout park fish. Most of the time the people that run you over, try to elbow you out of a spot, have noticed that you have been catching fish and they have not, so they decide to invite themselves to your spot. Now is the time to turn evil. Go right over to where the rude person(s) came from and start catching fish. This really pisses them off because the do not understand that the REASON they cannot catch fish is they do not know how. You will start to get very good at doing this, pay back is fun. You can hear the rude person or persons talk to each other. Every once in a while one of the rude peson(s) will back track and ask how I am catching fish and I tell them with "manners" of couse and I would be very glad to teach them some manners cause I can tell they do not have any. Most of the time they just turn and get away from me. A few, over the years have made a remark, but they soon back down. ( it helps to have an 18 inch neck ) Next up is the rude wader guy that wades in front of you. You have to turn this into a positive and become one with the trout. If you watch the rude wader lots of time they kick up the bottom and surrounding trout just love the easy pickin's. So when the rude wader has his back turn just cast your fly close to him and hope for the best. If you get a strike, let the trout go and run between and/or around the rude waders legs. Its fun to see the rude wader try to get out of the way, sometime they even will take a swim. My record is 2 swimmers in one day. I mean what can the rude wader say? You had a fish on. So as most of the posters have said just develop patients with this people. But no one said I could not have fun with them!!! Signed The Evil Fly Fisherman
