I don't know or care how you feel about Cabela's .. But the word needs to get out FAST..................... September 2, 2010 Dear Cabela's Customer: Occasionally, an issue of such importance arises we feel it necessary to contact our loyal customers. With our fishing rights at stake, this is such an issue. On August 23, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and others to ban lead from ammunition and fishing tackle, including sinkers, jigs, weighted fly lines and components containing lead, such as brass and ballast in lures, spinners, stick baits and other fishing products. On August 27, the EPA denied the petition regarding ammunition, but let stand the petition to ban lead in fishing tackle and has opened a short period for taking public comment. Such a ban would cause prices of fishing products to skyrocket. Alternative metals can cost from six to 15 times more than lead, and most do not perform as well. For many, fishing would no longer be the affordable sport it is now. Please join Cabela's and Keep America Fishing in opposing this ban by submitting your comments to the EPA no later than September 15, 2010. You can easily do so by clicking here. It is a fast and easy way to assure your opinion is heard. Cabela's is working in conjunction with the American Sportfishing Association and Keep America Fishing to protect our tradition and heritage of fishing. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Cabela's

Thanks !!! That is another great tool in pre-planning a trip to the lakes in this area..
-
Well, it took me 20 minutes to get there but, here it is...... http://newmdcgis.mdc...fishattractors/ It should come up with Stockton.... If it don't there is a link in the upper lefthand corner that says "Query by Lake Name" ... Using the drop down menu choose Stockton.... Then you will see a RED blob in the upper lefthand corner of the map... Move the blob to the center of the map area and then magnify 10-15 times and you will see the "push pins" show up with the GPS data.. DON'T GET IN A HURRY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MAP REDRAWS LIKE MOLASSES IN JANUARY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the "glad to be born" (before 1945).... But, I have a half a dozen granddaughters and text messaging is about all they do !!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want the full info on the abrv's (lol) ... you are going to have to talk to some one under the age of 30 ......
-
In the "new" world of text messaging --- lol = laugh-o-lot (replaced the smiley face) lmao= laugh-my a$ off fow= feet of water imo= in my opinion imho= in my humble opinion and about 10,000 others !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sent a message to an old Air Force buddy that runs Lake Fork Tackle (@ Lake Fork).... This is his reply...... "They are a Japanese version of the Pop R. However, it will out-perform the Pop R 4/5 to one. I have personally been a victim. They are expensive $ 15.00 and $ 16.00 respectively for 1/4 and 1/2 oz models. Anyone that has used one will tell you they are absolutely the very best. Japanese Shad and and other of the shad colors are the best (at least they are our best sellers). Each lure supposedly has 13 different people that have a hands- on during the production process of these baits. I've been told that even the two hooks are placed on lure by different workers." So @ $15 that is about a dollar apiece for each person working on the lure ??????

Started at "0'dark:30" (0530hrs)... Fishing main lake points from state park marina to crabtree cove... 3 walleye 19", 20", 21"; 3.9 lb channel cat ; 12 crappie 12-13" ......... also a 10-12 lb crap, a 4.5 lb drum, 4 ea 3oz bluegills and a broken rod..... But a GREAT DAY ( 0530- 1030hrs).... the cat came on a crankbait and the rest on crappie minnows........

My Lowrance works at any speed but, if I am drifting or working around a brush pile real slowly, the arrow that represents the boat my be turned the wrong direction... as soon as I move a couple of boat lengths everything straightens out... A GPS can only tell where you were the last time it "updates" ..... Most of the marine units update at a minimum of once per second... Some (less expensive unit) will only update once a minute..... Plus, the more satellites that the unit can receive ( at once ) the shorter of movements can be plotted..... If you go to the Lowrance site they have good information on how the GPS works and why it won't work...... GPS INFO

As you'll know the weather did not cooperate !!!!!!!!!! The only daylight hours that were NOT "White Caps" everywhere was for about 2 hours Tues evening and 3 hours Weds morning... I gave up this morning after the storm destroyed one of the docks, less than a 100 yards from the camper, at Lost Bridge Marina and we lost a tree about 30yards behind the camper; plus serveral large limbs down in the camping area.... My son hook up with one , about 8-10 pounds, but we didn't get it in the boat for a "for sure" weight, Tues evening.... I chased three different small schools Weds morning that would break a 80 yards to my left, as I would turn and get about there another school would break a 100 yards behind me, etc,etc for about 30 minutes and they were all gone when the sun hit the water... To answer the question about my boat – It is a 1999 Ranger "walleye" boat.. In prior years they were called the "Fisherman" boats..... As far as a "Mud Line" the only mud lines I seen were (of course) on the windy banks and they only came out 3 - 6 foot.....( Not much mud in that end of the lake ) I didn't stick around to take pictures of the down trees but, here is what is left of the outside dock at lost bridge marina.... I may try again in a couple of weeks.........

I will be on Beaver the next few days looking for "Top Water" striper action..... If you see me swing by and say "HooowDeee"...... I will be staying at Lost Bridge North # 28 and will be fishing between there and "The Cliffy's".................. Mike

If I was working a jig "with an eight ounce head" on my crappie rod.... I would HAVE TO WORK IT SUPER SLOW !!!!!!! ( LOL )
-
I have had good luck on Storm's big "Chug-Bug"..... But if I was taking an 8 year old..... I would have him throw a "RedFin" and not the 7"-9" inch'er but the 5-6 inch'er ...... My wife has caught stripers up to 14 lbs on the the "broke-back" model using 12 lb line.... being smaller it is eazy'er for her to handle.... PLUS - to work it you just wind fast enough to make a wake on the surface !!!!!!! As for color "you will have to ask the fish" !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( the "somkey-joe is the one the wife throws the most )

Look at your Stockton Map at the bottom (south end)......It is on the south end where the Big Sac and Sons Creek meet.... Where "Y" and "H" cross the south end.... The launch ramp is on the south end of the "H" bridge....
-
That's got to be more fun than I could stand !!!!!!!!!!!
-
On all of Stockton; Legal Crappie must be 10" and you can keep 15 per day.............................
-
CC is the area where county road "CC" crosses the BigSac arm just before it splits into the Big Sac going east and Turnback Creek to the south... The Crappie will ALWAYS turn on up there first... as the water coming in to the lake is warmer , do to being shallower and more stained than the main lake...

I was in the Academy store in Joplin, MO on Thursday and the guy at the gun counter was talking about the "NEW" store in Arkansas and how it was going to hurt the business at there store....

If you are looking for basic structure and fish returns - there are 100's of "fishfinders" that will work....BUT, if you are serious about Crappie fishing you need to get a GPS/Sonar unit... Because, as you find the brush piles that the Corps DID NOT put in, with a nice green sign.... You can "mark" the location on the GPS and boat back to the same place ( + / - 10 foot )each time you are on the lake... Even the cheapest units will get you within 10 - 15 feet, which is less distant than the length of you boat... The unit I used ( until my old eyes needed something brighter ) was the Eagle FishElite 480 Sonar with External GPS.. It is a greyscale unit for about $ 350... If $ are no problem look at the newer color units... I just received the flier from Cabela's.. Thru MAR 8th, you can get the 642c Sonar/GPS for $329.99 .. It is color and has more detail than the 480....

Jr. Adams fishes out of Lost Bridge North... If you want to fish the damm end of the lake, he is your man... But, I would call him and let him pick the date ( if you are flexible ).....
-
Nice fish !!! Thanks for the picture... This is the time of year for "Jerk-baits".. You have to let them set about one minute between jerks, because of the cold water.. Mike

The wife and I had the same thing happen on MLK day in 2004.. The only difference was we were using Clown Rogues... This is the first time I have heard of it happening to some one else... I know you will have this memory for ever... Mike
-
KCBEAR, The GPS has a smaller area of accuracy on the water than in the trees or tall buildings... I have seen my GPS down to a 6 foot circle of accuracy... most of the time it will be 10 -12 foot... If you are in a 16 foot boat then when you get to the point on the GPS, your brush pile will be less than a boat length from that spot ... They really great if you put out your own brush piles (he-he)....

Alive and kicking in Willard..... Mike
