I wanted to say thanks to Bill and Phil. I wasn't able to make it up there the other night, but I really enjoyed the Podcast. Top notch, as always, Bill. Great info... and everybody needs to not forget the fact that it is FREE info. Wow. Thank you very much for your time and expert knowledge. And thank you Phil for making it available to us. Whack'em

This is my last post about this stuff. I really don't care about guns OR gun control. I just thought I could provide a neutral and objective opinion, but apparently everybody gets too riled up about guns for my taste. Besides, I couldn't care less, either way. I don't know what this argument is doing under "General Angling Discussion" anyway. To answer your question JM... I only ran across it because, apparently, it was posted in the wrong category. Deleted all of my previous posts on this thread. Have fun.

I'm just glad that we are going to be out of town this weekend. Good luck fellas! Whack'em

The sun came out on Table Rock yesterday? We didn't see it all day but maybe 10 minutes worth. You must have been just in the right spot... or maybe we were in just the wrong spot... Way to go. Whack'em

Night Fishing - Blacklight/led Questions.

250XPS, Thanks for the info. Sounds pretty good. I actually bought the Nucli-Eye Extreme and just got it. It looks really sweet, and I think I will really like it (hope so... it was expensive!). Haven't had a chance to actually try it out yet, but I will soon. For those out there that may be interested... I will post my opinion of my new light after I get a chance to put it to the test. Thanks to all that helped. Whack'em -
I have a Humminbird 535c and it works great for drop shotting, as well as for showing structure, trees, and brush. Capt. Don gave me setup instructions on here that really worked well for setting it up for drop shotting. I don't think you can really go wrong with either Lowrance or Humminbird, in my opinion. Just my .02. Whack'em

Maybe... but I always say if it aint broke, don't fix it. If you haven't had any problems with it, then there is no problem. Some of the equipment that I depend on is considered bad by other guys, but it works well for me. Also, I use alot of "obsolete" lures and baits that I catch alot of fish (and nice ones) with on a regular basis. The point that I am making is-- I hear guys say that some tackle and equipment is crap, when other guys say it is great-- and vice versa. Alot of this stuff is personal preference stuff. If you have confidence in it, then don't let some study or test change your mind on it. Just my two cents-- an observation of why there are thousands of products out there, and there is a big group of guys for every single product out there that has great confidence in it. Good luck on the water everyone. It is almost Spring!!! Whack'em

He is talking about Smallmouth Bass.

Hey wackinbass... I noticed in another thread that you said the 4lb 9oz smallie was realeased unharmed... I apologize for my earlier comments and hat's off to ya. Way to go.
-
I agree, God forbid there be any hard fighting sportfish in Taney. You know I'm just funnin' ya BRBF.
-
There is your answer. This is why there aren't many Smallies in Taney. Too many meat fishermen. They only get caught once and then wasted. Wow. Smallies on a stringer... along with a trophy one too. Amazing...

If you don't like fishing shoulder to shoulder with people, you should get a boat. We are very blessed to have several massive lakes within short driving distance. There is plenty of room for everyone on these lakes and they are teeming with fish. Then again-- if you don't want to get a boat, just go to Table Rock and bank fish... plenty of room. Whack'em

Traffic on Table Rock is not really that big of a deal. You have probably heard horror stories that were largely exaggerated. Don't get me wrong-- I wouldn't get on Table Rock with a jon boat or a pond prowler or something, but as long as you use a 15ft or longer boat you shouldn't have a problem. I have fished Table Rock in a 16ft aluminum Bass Tracker before, and never thought for a minute that I wasn't safe. Just watch out for wakes made by big sea going type boats (those huge boats, by the way, should only be allowed on the ocean). Also, keep in mind that most of the guys who own those type of big rediculous boats don't care if they sink and drown you or not-- they will do things that you wouldn't believe anybody would do, so keep your eye on them. The bottom line is, as long as you keep your head up and watch where you are going and watch those around you, you will be fine. Enjoy the new boat (when you get it). Whack'em

Well said.

I used to crappie, walleye, trout, and white bass fish-- anything that would bite, really. I have since lost the desire, for some reason. I could probably bass fish every day for 10 years and never get tired of it. I don't know what it is, but the thrill of the hunt is much greater for me with bass than any other species. I guess it is because there are so many techniques and baits on which you can catch them. Also, it is such a challenge that it is very satisfying to me to really figure them out. Dad and I went to Taneycomo once last year when Table Rock was a mess. We caught a whole bunch of nice trout, yet we decided that it wasn't nearly as much fun as bass fishing (for us). We haven't been back to Taneycomo since. We also used to go crappie fishing up at Stockton at night (under lights) during the summer. Most of the time we could catch our limit of 11-13 inch crappie and pick that limit out of 40-80 (maybe more) to get it-- meanwhile catching quite a few nice walleye and white bass along with them. That was fun, but we didn't even go once last year-- had the bass bug instead. Like you said though, to each his own. Alot of folks really enjoy catching trout, crappie, walleye, etc and I understand why they like it-- it's just not for me. Alot of folks don't like bass fishing... I understand that too. I guess if we all liked the exact same things, there wouldn't be enough of that thing to go around. It is a good thing that everybody's likes and dislikes are different. I think we can all agree that we all love to catch fish. There aint anything that I would rather do in this world but fish. If there weren't such a thing as LM, SM, or KY bass, I would probably be hooked on crappie or white bass fishing. Whack'em

Also, don't forget-- keeping your spool full to the brim ensures an accurate measurement of line recovery per handle turn... and also ensures that your line recovery per handle turn stays relatively consistent throughout the retrieve. If you let your spool get low on line you not only lose alot of line recovery per turn, but it affects the consistency throughout the retrieve more dramatically-- it is more likely to make your line recovery per turn decrease substantially when you have alot of line out, and increase as your lure gets closer to the boat. I hope I explained that corrrectly-- to where it made sense. Whack'em

Good points. You are right... nobody could have been prepared to face that. You're right about not being able to take a 50' cruiser out of the lake for the Winter too... I don't know about you, but it would be hard for me to spend that kind of money on a boat and leave it down there all Winter!!

Thanks guys. Great information and advice... I will take all tips/info into account. I don't need the rod until Spring, so I have until then to make a final decision. Your time and advice is very much appreciated. Whack'em

We were thinking of going down tomorrow... I would say that everything will be melted off by Sunday, but I don't know about tomorrow. How are the side roads around Kimberling City? Has anybody been down to Mill Creek, Aunts Creek, or Joe Bald? I would hate to come down there, just to turn around and come back.

Boat ownership is actually one of the best parts of fishing. There's nothing like having your own boat-- set up perfectly for your own personal likes and needs, and loaded with your own equipment and tackle at all times. After awhile, it becomes second nature to operate your own boat (like a second home) and it makes your fishing experience just that much more efficient and enjoyable. You just have to take care of it... The lesson here is, don't leave your boat in the water during the winter or when inclement weather is approaching. It is a bad deal for those folks who were affected by this storm... My prayers and well wishes go out to them. Whack'em

Hey guys. I am looking to buy a new rod to dedicate specifically to deep cranking. I will be matching it up with a David Fritts 4.7:1 reel and will be using 10lb flourocarbon. I will be flinging DD22s and Fat Free Shad cranks, among others. Is there a specific brand, model, length and/or action that you would recommend? Please keep in mind that I am on a budget with this one, since I will be using it solely for deep cranking... which I don't do alot of, but am looking to do alot more of, starting this spring. I have been looking at the BPS Crankin' Sticks and the American Rodsmiths David Fritts Cranking Rods just to name a few. Keep in mind that I haven't been able to decide on a make and model, much less an action and length. What do you guys recommend and why? Any and all tips and info would be much appreciated. Whack'em
