  1. Looks like Hebron the Sunburst and probably in a canoe unless someone can confirm a jon boat to be ok for this trip. In regards to fishing gear I plan on brings two spinning rods. One for small mouth fishing with braided line and 10 lb fluorocarbon leader and one with 4 lb green mono for jig fishing in trout water and possibly a third just like the first so I don't have to switch baits. In soft plastics should I bring brush hogs, baby brush hogs, 3 inch gurbs and what colors of those should I bring? I guess I should also bring rebel craws and/or stand up jigs with crawdad trailers? What color of these? Are road runners effective and what color head and body are best? Should we throw top waters? In the zig jigs what colors other than sculpin are effective in the trout section of this river? Our fishing gear space will most likely be consumed with overnight camping gear so I'm trying to bring less than more. Any advice is appreciated and if anyone doesn't want to reveal the answers about any of these questions publicly feel free to send PM. Thanks
  2. With current rainfall can a jon boat float SAFELY on this stretch without excessive dragging and/or paddling? I prefer to use this on two day floats bc it holds more camping gear than my canoe.
  3. How do you sight fish when you are in water from 8-15 feet deep in the stretch you were fishing? It is really deep where you were picking all of them up. How is your rod rigged to fish that deep? What colors do you prefer?
  4. I was fortunate enough to get two days off of work next week and it looks like we want to fish the eleven point. I haven't been on this river since I was a kid. We will drive up from Springfield on Thurs morning departing around 5 a.m. and so I guess well will be down in the area 7:30-8 a.m. Looking for a nice two day float with lots of spin fishing for smallmouth and some trout. I will take a fly rod as well but for the most part we will be spin fishing. Would like to pick what stretch we fish with some help on here. From what I'm reading less can be more if you like to take in the scenery and we generally stop and fish everything fishy looking like ripples, holes and log jams. Looking at Cain Bluff to Turner South or Greer Spring to Whitten or anything you guys suggest. Would also like some input on potential camp site depending on which stretch we float. Probably going to have 11point Canoe Rentals shuttle our car down to take out. Any input from members is appreciated.
  5. Perhaps you should friend Dawt Mill on Facebook and post your concern for all to see.
  6. yes. moon valley to bennett
  7. Took awhile to post how our trip went. Several trout were taken on guess what? Crawdad crank baits but some of them were not rebel craws. Two nice SM were taken with crawdad crank baits as well. One was 17"s. No fish were caught on soft platic grubs. I used soft plastic worm and caught many nice goggle eyes. Trip was enjoyable and I did like the upper float but could see where it might be tough with a lack of rain. There were however several idiots out on the river slapping water with paddles and tipping over contentiously.
  8. Grubs and tube baits? Guessing watermelon or pumpkin color?
  9. Going to float this weekend and hopefully the baffonary will not be out in abundance. We are going to float moon valley to bennett which I have not floated before. What can I expect? We usually stop and fish every pool and every riffle so we don't float very fast. Other than crawdad cranbaits should I throw something else. We normally float below bennett so this is a new stretch of water for me. Any info is appreciated.
  10. Prices? Location?
  11. I wish I had all of that 5.56 and 5.45 ammo these fools just wasted. Plastic melts when hot I guess. That is an expensive way to prove what physics class in high school should have already taught folks.
  12. After a few weeks of wondering if there are birds in the area I can attest to seeing about 750-1000 mallards on one of our leases. After dark coming in to feed on corn. West of Springfield.
  13. Well moguy looks like you are in the minority on this one. Neither are bigscreens and Xboxes but when I deliver food baskets they have those to. And yes you are correct rich people smoke but a disproportional amount are the poorest people. So you are taxing the poor with that tax. And why don't you believe they should just ban cigarettes?
  14. Cigarette taxes are essentially a tax on the poor. I don't think that's a good tax. Besides if everyone's health is really behind these propositions then why don't they just ban them. We banned cocaine and heroin because they are bad for people. If you don't like living in a state with low priced cigarettes there is nothing precluding you from moving to a state with higher cigarette prices.
  15. If you fish them under low water conditions you will spend a lot of time cleaning moss off of barbs I know this from experience. Most fish I catch on them are under high water conditions.
  16. And keep in mind this was a drought year so most years you will be banging 1/8 or 1/16 off the bottom and you can use a Light 6'6" for this as well.
  17. Sometimes you need to cast an extremely light jigs and floats and the longer the rod the further you can can cast it. Additionally, the bite is light some times and the lighter the rod action the easier it is to detect. I wouldn't get a 7' just because. A 6'6" will work and I would go with a Light action. Most folks I see casting this method don't cast anywhere in the range of a 8 or 9 foot flyrod but it comes down to personal preference of spin vs fly.
  18. Before you go spending $1,000 + on a gun you need to go shoot them all. Every gun is different and every person is different. Everyone's hands, fingers, faces, arms... are all different and what might work for one guy on here won't work at all for another guy. Also, gun weight makes a difference. I don't like lightweight shotguns to waterfowl hunt with. The latest craze however is lighter which I guess is suppose to mean faster and better. Just go shoot a bunch of guns and see what you like the best before you buy regret and at that price not a good deal.
  19. If you do this and I think you should at least consider it you better get a replacement barrel for it to shoot steel or you might ruin your barrel.
  20. I've seen a bunch of you tubes of a guy on a poontoon type boat not a float tube. I think that might be the difference.
  21. It's in great shape and will be a great truck for someone who is looking for a low mileage for the age of the truck with only light use. I have used on only full synthetic oil while I have owned it (90% of the miles). Extras include: custom chrome package including side mirrors, chrome running boards, a custom GMC chrome grille, door handles on the doors and tail gate, wood on the dash, console and doors and GMC Performance Exhaust. Everything a Denali has except a 6 L gas guzzler engine. It has the Panasonic DVD entertainment system. I added a hard bed cover that locks and a spray on bed liner. Recently I added new rubber mats and it also has carpeted ones under those. The Michelin tires are around two years old with maybe 20,000 miles on them and were around $900 dollars. There is probably easily an extra $2500 worth of very nice stuff on this truck. No trades and price is very firm. Look around online, in newspaper, or at dealerships. None like this one at this price. 5.3 L Engine 4 X 4 with Z71 Off Road Package Includes: Skid Plates, Locking Rear Differential Trailering Package 6 disc cd player with XM radio and Bose Sound System Dual Stage Air Bag with Passenger Sensor Asking $17,900 firm
  22. What size line were you throwing the xraps with?
  23. http://zigjig.net/ Hands down the best jigs you can buy. No offense to anyone on here who sells them. Ginger is the one I have the most success with but the Ginger/Olive and Tri-Olive are equally good.
  24. People forget this is part of the trip too....the scenery that is..I never forget the beer part.
  25. After a very interesting exchange of opinions on line choice for river SM I was curious what everyone's choices are for brands, length and type on spinning, baitcasting and fly rods.
