Awesome time Marty. Like I said, it was so much sweeter because I wasn't even planning on going again and it was a kind of a surprise hunt. Couldn't have asked for better company to close it out. I know you were very impressed with my insulated rubber boot 40 yd dash time too. On the last evening of the season, nothing better than laying on your back in a muddy field in a freezing drizzle with a good friend. Watching the bird show, having some chuckles, and actually getting to shoot a few times as a bonus. I think there will be goose gumbo with goose fat base for the roux for the superbowl at our casa. You've got me convinced that I need a jar of rendered goose fat. How long is it until next season?

Waterfowl gear is put away, I told the family I'm done for the year. Marty calls and says "I've got a field that's covered up. I'm having withdrawls." What do I say? "I'll be there in 2 hrs". Coupla darn bird junkies I tell ya. Report to follow.

How About A Good Ol' Throw It Down After Season Thread?

That's a great story John. I get those kind of thoughts myself often during hunting season. I guess that's why hunting is a heritage. -

Monarch Butterflies Endangered?
Bird Watcher replied to KCRIVERRAT's topic in New News and General Discussion
I actually noticed that I saw very few of them this fall, however, I see milkweed everywhere I look. You could close your eyes and throw a rock and hit a milkweed plant around here. FWIW -

Outstanding. love the pictures with the kiddos Michael Kyle. Pat does not look happy in that picture with the straps over her shoulder Marty. I like the pictures of the shotguns strapped to the console Scott. I may have to do something like that year round for fishing in Oklahoma. -

I'm actually really encouraged to know they were putting that much effort in to patrolling it.

Thanks for all the good discussions. I really enjoyed following along on everybody's adventures. I was tied up for most of the season and wasn't able to go on my first hunt until Dec. 30th of this year. It ended up being a good thing though. Usually I'm completely burned out and ready to dig a hole to bury my waterfowl gear by now, but tonight I sit here and I'm already looking forward to next year. Went out tonight for one more hunt with a couple good friends and Dad. It wasn't a barrel melter but we shot a few. Blind Shy, Decoy Shy, Call Shy, Live bird shy, late season birds. They always leave me scratching my head and pulling my hair a little. P.S. I vote for the 5-0 waterfowl thread to be thread of the year on here. That was pretty funny. See y'all next year.

Nice going. Gotta roll with it. That's my motto always. Those are some sweeet buffies. Did you save any of them?

Good Job Marty. Really happy you had a good season. I can't believe that it's the end of the third season since the case of the hitchiking Bigfoot. Thanks for all the exciting reports. I'm already fired up for next year. I'll see you in a few months when the ol zebra fish get fired up.

Please, Please, Please freeze up one more time before it closes.

I had trouble with a LCP .380 that I had. Couldn't get consistent with it. I picked up an aftermarket lazer for it. Having the lazer on helped me with the sight picture on the small open sights. It also helped me with my trigger pull because it gave a reference for me to monitor at what point in my pull the barrel was wavering. I don't know about yours, but mine didn't have an external safety. In a way, the long heavy trigger pull/travel is the safety. I adjusted the way I was pulling the trigger for that gun. After using the lazer for some practice rounds, I was able to take it back off and maintain my accuracy because I learned what my sight picture should look like.

I'm busting a gut here. Thanks for the good time Marty. Let's do it again.

FWIW, I don't have a problem with it, but I don't squeeze my smallmouth quite as close to my heart as I used to. It's hard for me to believe that a spot inside a state managed trout area is any kind of secret. Or rather, if that's your idea of a secret, you need to find better secrets.

This thread started out kinda funny. SB made me chuckle. Now, after reading, I want to go sew my hair to the carpet. Something I've learned, if you are really concerned about a spot getting burnt by something a person posts on one of these forums, ignore it. The more you try to convince the poster it's wrong, the more posts add up, then pages and the more exposure and attention it gets. Pretty soon theres a 5 page thread about it and everyone is reading it.

Dad and I went to one of our spots that we go to when we want to be home early. It's about 2 miles away, just a tiny little spring fed pond in a pasture. We actually saw quite a few birds. Shot poorly. Guns jamming (just cleaned them? ) Anyway, ended up with 6 blackheaded, blackfooted fatties, 3 Grey Ducks and the rest were all straight nothing but green. Shot this pig. I picked him out of a flock. Pretty sure it's a bird I saw down on Grand Lake a lot this summer. We were only hunting 15-20 Miles from there. Get em while you can boys. That big girl I took to prom is warming up right now. Do Re Me Fa So La Ti Da.
