Well, JE and I had one of those days as well.. We had over 20 keepers but just could not get any size.. Culling was a a game of 1/2 ounces for us and just could not get any size. On Wednesday and Thursday they were all really nice fish in the 3 pound range or bigger?? All of our fish came on a 3/4 ounce football jig (Of Course) around docks on the main lake at Shell Knob. Matter of fact we never left sight of the bridge all day. We had three docks that were just loaded with fish right in front of them in 25 - 35 feet in the brush piles, some of these fish were taking with a vertical presentation, jigging the bait right on top of the brush, the rest we were flipping into the stalls. Had a great Bite up at the DAM area on Wednesday on the Wart but felt it would not hold out without high winds, wrong again.. Shoulda Coulda thing, just a wrong choice, All-in all a great day on the water alot of fun until I went to the weight in and then left to find that someone had taking my helmet out of JE's boat? Dam can't you just go buy your own?? Just shows you can't trust anyone anymore... What Comes Around Goes Around, they will get the same someday... Anyway Good Fishing Everyone! I hope Everyone has a great Holiday Season.. Don

Well I understand guy's.. I had a traffic jam at the boat ramp, three squirrels had a fender bender and two possiums were crossing the road!! Nice report need to get up the rivers fur sure!!! Good Fishing Everyone Don

Just alittle after 3:00pm, Sun came out then back in, after that small breeze for just a little bit besides that not very much at all, maybe 5 - 10 miles per hour.. Should be much better for Thursday they are calling for a breezey day!!! Good Fishing Don

Should have went out yesterday! Today was slow at best. Threw Jigs, warts, S/B and spoons only a few fish from 12:00 to 4:00pm in the same area as the boys playing yesterday.. Tried to stay in the shallows on the steep banks with rocks, But only small fish up there today and really no wind at all. Moved back out to 25- 30 feet and found a few keepers but nothing like the boys did yesterday for sure.. Seems like I allways miss those days!! Starting to see alot of shad movement about half way back in the creek arms, alot of seagullsand loons marking them for you.. Spoons did produce a few but very spotty at best. Should have tried the topwater but could not put down that jig and wart.. Will try again on Thursday and Friday.. Maybe Mr. B can shed some more light when he get out. By the way Dave, water temps were in the Low to Mid 60"s in the creeks and main lake.. Good Fishing Everyone. Don

T, what is a very good choice! It would be my other choice for a bass boat. Should be really nice, so when will the guys get it here? Hope not too long I know been there waiting on a new boat. Hope everything goes well Tell Terry and Gary I said to take care of you! Like that will matter, really they are great guys. Are you joining the pro-staff for CCM? By the way what does t1365 mean?? Be good and it will be here soon.. Capt. Don

S&M what area were you playing in? We fished from DAM to Baxter and back yesterday.. Did ok.. Alot of small fish and a small limit of keeper fish on jigs, and wiggle warts in the wind.. Did have one really nice kicker smallie that pushed 5.5. Alot of the guys I talked to last night did not do that well, but I know a few did do really well.. Everything is going to change today. I'm done for a few days will go play on Saturday to get ready for a Sunday trip, should have my lake back then.. Let us know some more crankbait information if you can.. Good Fishing Don

T, ya that is the one.. Terry said you used it for that tournament.. Guy is really fast for sure.. What did you buy new for next year. a new ZX? Nice boats for sure.. Talk to you later.. Don

Had some lower unit issues with it, so it is up in springfield at Center City Marine. I guess for some reason I lost a tooth on the forward gear??? It started wineing really bad then I heard a loud pop on Friday! We were way up by Camel Point area and was able to make it back to the ramp at Mill Creek and that was it.. Not too sure what happened, but G3 and Yamaha is taking care of it for me, should have it back here in a few days. So ya I'm in this rocket ZX. I feel like I'm going to fall out of it, kinda funny. I forgot what is was like to run across the lake with your rear end on fire.. Sucker is really fast! I was in the back of cow and had no luck, but of course so was everyone else that may have something to do with it? I've seen him now three times all out on the main lake in deeper water all from point 7 to Point 5, that one has me scratching my head?? I think he is going after fish that know one else has found out in deep water, but I'm just guessing.. We will see I'm going to the weight-ins all this week just to watch. Hey are you going to fish that AIA derby later this month? Should be a fun time for sure.. Good Fishing Don

Donna, sorry to hear about your weekend, I been there too many times myself. It is really hard to fish behind someone on a dock bite with a jig. Those guys can really pick them apart. Tell James keep pushing on, I know my friend JEV just missed that check as well.. Good luck this weekend, hope you both do well.. Good Fishing Capt. Don

Techo, give it two days and it will really calm down!!! Once they get down to the top 10 or 20 you will not see these guys on the main lake. I was able to watch IKE today on the water, he has been fishing the main lake for the last two days. I stopped and watched him in front of Cow Creek he was chasing shad schools way out on main lake points and drop shot fishing them. Did not see him boat a fish, I would think he will run to the rivers like everyone else. We will see, but go out anyway most of these guys are really nice, just a few super star want to be's!! I look just like one of them, right now I running a 07 zx225 while my other boat is getting worked on, so I just just blend in really good, so they will stay 50 yards away from me from here on out.. He!! He!!! Good Fishing Capt. Don

Went out today for a half day trip, boy that was fun... The lake looks like the INDY 500, we were lucky to find one or two spots to fish boats everywhere.. Don't these guys know not to fish the day before a big derby... We still were able to catch about 12 fish with about six keeper spots and smallies, nothing big but good 16 - 18 inch fish. Most on jigs and crankbaits. Jigs was the best bite on 45 degree banks with large chunk rock. Seems that 30 feet was the ticket. Fished alot of bluff walls and bluff ends with cedars and docks. Fish are still in the cedars but seemed to be better on the docks in that area. Also found some fish out deep finally right under large schools of shad. Just look for the Seagulls that was the dead giveaway. Spoons was the ticket there, use your graph find the school and drop it down small jerks worked the best. These fish were out in 100 plus feet of water suspended at 30 feet or just right under the school, these were all good spots nice and fat! Not too bad but had alot of issues with boat just pulling right on in. Had one guy in a Ranger just pulled in and started fishing the same 4 stall dock as us???? Just laughed as my client banged a fish right in front of him.. Told him to have a great day and left.. Back at it on Wednesday for a full day, need to try to go towards baxter, too many running boats around my home area. I will let them have it.. Good Fishing Everyone Don

Engr5, What Mr. Babler is talking about this those long points go run way out into the lake then drop off into the channel itself, does not matter if they are on a channel swing or not, those are nice by the way.. Pretty much any point or even a flat to runs out to the channel were you are in 25 - 30 feet then they fall off or fade into 60 - 80 feet as an example, that is a roll off. Hope that helps.. Good Fishing Don
-
Dave, nice report! Glad to hear you was able to have some fun on the Rock! Good Fishing Don

That is the best advise I have seen on this site in a long time! Mr. B is right very tough right now around the DAM, and to make things worst the Guys fishing the Big Stren derby coming up next week are making it even harder. I have only 2 spots in that area that are holding fish right now and so far they have not been found yet! YET!! But I know they will find them.. If it is around the Baxter to Cambell Point to Shell Knob Mr. B would know,go for it!! Good Fishing Don

Yes crickets or even nightcrawlers work just fine.. I have been finding them on the bigger main lake wave docks and main lake house boat docks. Just drop them down about 15 feet and there you go.. Go have some fun, small and larger ones mixed in along with a few goggle eyes as well.. Good Fishing Don

The ONLY time I have heard of the Crappie was two weeks ago on the bluff walls by Hwy 86 Bridge and the Del Monco resort. Had one guy with a limit everyday for three days. By the time I got over there they were gone, manage to catch just two, in the trees at 25 feet on the bluff walls with minnows and worms. Besides that very poor year for them. BlueGill well they are everywhere crickets on the deep water docks all over the main lake.. Just wait for Spring I think this 2009 will be Great for those little silver guys. Good Fishing Don

Bill, try this little trick... Once you feel the bite reel down atleast 3 to 5 turns, move your rod towards the fish at the same time, then set the hook!!! Even works for those soft bites or just feels heavy!! You will see your loss ratio go down alot, I mean alot.. And once that fish tries to jump rod tip down.. Just little tricks I use.. Good Fishing Don

Techo, yes I wll be fishing the same one, I will also be putting in at Mill Creek.. If it is real foggy just follow me over GPS rocks!!! Also don't give up your money so fast, I get my rear end handed to me on this lake as well. Both of you look for the big Blue Tanker, I will be by myself for this one. Also not going up the river they can have it. Good Luck to everyone, lets go have some fun!!!! See you on Sunday Don
-
Techo, which tournament are you fishing? Is it one this weekend? I have one on Sunday.. Just interested.. Thanks Don
-
Whack is right this is a really big lake with lots of fish for everyone! Biggest issue is trying to find a spot to fish with some of the tournaments. But you should be just fine. Most will run up the rivers only a few will stay on the main lake. Deep Water bite just has not really came to life this year, But it will and Nov will be a great start to the feeding frenzey to prepare these Bass for the cold months to come. Matter of fact it is one of my favorite times of the year, not very much traffic and alot of water to choose from. The fish will start to really move into the creek arms chasing shad I'm hopeing for some schooling action by then. Here is a little trick, watch for the white seagulls they are a dead give away for schooling shad! Spoons in all white color and the sizes of 1/2 and 3/4 ounce should really take off around then. Just keep checking back on this great site for more information, there are alot of really good fisherman on here that don't mind to share information. Come on down and have some fun! Good Fishing Capt. Don

Spent a nice relaxing full day on the water with just one client yesterday. We started at Happy Hollow across from B/C and started hopping main lake points with no help or hits. Moved our way into the creek arms and Yes they are still there. Found some really nice smallies about 1/2 way back into the creek arms. Most came on flats in the 15 - 25 feet range. Most fish just smashed the Purple Flash and Brown Football Jig and made it easy to tell the bite. Total of 6 really nice keeper smallies in 4 hours for the morning, best 5 weight 16 - 18 pounds. Once the wind started to pickup that bite really died. We moved back out to the main lake points with wind really blowning hard on them. Worked with small War Eagle Green Ghost spinner bugs, had two small spots, changed over to a 5" grub in Watermelon and red flakes and the catching started again. All of these fish came not on the points but on the really windy flats right before the points. All of these fish where just small spots with a few 15" spots in the mix. Still alot of fun. Had a wild ideal to moved back into the creek arms and fished the wind blown pockets or cuts in the 5 - 15 foot range started throwing a 1/2 Fat Free Shad and Bomber Fat A's in Green Ghost and Citrus Orange Colors, really started to get on them again most where fat spots but had two or three really nice Blacks mixed in to boot. Finally stopped just before the down pour came in at 3:00pm, all in all another great day on the water. You Gotta Love this Job!!! Good Fishing Everyone Capt. Don
