  1. Tom, Wind and Rain is your friend!! You really want those clouds for the really good bite and the wind is a pain but it really helps this time of year for me! Lighting well another story, the post really sums it up, I don't mess with it! As far as fishing in the rain pickup that topwater bait and keep chucking it... they are really on it right now, also rig up on swimming grubs in the wind, spilt shot rigs for no wind and sunny days. Yesterday It took 7 hours to really find them, but when we did we really did! 5 Large small mouths in a 30 foot chunk of bank all on the split shot rig.. Made a slow day move really fast! If the sun comes out then start dragging the split shot.. Good Luck and Good Fishing Don
  2. Techo, watch out and take care of that back issue.. That will kill your fishing!!! Been there done that! Good to hear you guys had some fun, wished I was not working would have been there myself.. Might be at the AIA this month, but with all of the things I have going on, might not.. Need to get out and go play sometime, look me up.. Be Good and Good Fishing Don
  3. Flipper, best bet is way up the James river, but not at all like it was two years ago!!! Only a few here and there and really small to boot.. My big crappie on the bluff walls just never happened.. Now with the hard rains they will spawn in deeper water, which is what I think is going on.. A few other guides have had fair to good luck with minnows around K/C in the smaller pea gravel pockets.. And now with the river turning to mud, it might just be the end for this year.. Keep trying still have a few good weeks to go.. Good Fishing Don
  4. Vaction, c-rigs with fish doctors and shakey jigs with smaller green pumpkin worms are your best bet right now.. Also don't forget swimming grubs and blades on windy days.. Also there is a start of smaller crankbaits in bluegill colors is starting to work well, as these bedding males are chasing bluegills away from beds out in deep water.. Good Fishing Don
  5. Vacation, these fish are still there... They have just moved back off the shallows back out to the flooded cedars or now the old shore line.. Once the lake calms down with boat traffic these fish will come back. All of my beding fish were very hard to reach these are the fish to go after, look under flooded bushes, may not see the bed but it is there. I found today that most of my fish stayed on there beds but the beds are out alittle deeper.. Best bite is the beds you really can't see because of the lake had jumped up 3 feet in the last few days. Easy fishing is the fish that have not moved on the beds. Secondary points in the 15- 25 feet range are really holding some good fish, just have to keep looking with all of these touranment guys running around the easy bedding fish are toast! I had one pocket that had over 30 plus beds and now they are all gone.. I really think these guys are getting caught and taking a ride across the lake.. Top water is really coming on strong look for fish busting right in the middle of the pockets or creek arms midway to in the back. Redfins are the best bet, but today they all came on a spook type bait early.. So keep fishing and keep looking, also pay attention to the docks these are great hangouts for these pre-spawn fish!!! Good Fishing Don
  6. I really like the mikey Jr 3.5 and the 5.5 versions.. Ten Shad or the Aurora Black work the best for me.. Also there is one called the Jackall Dragor that I just really love.. Althought today the good old Red Fin worked the best.. But these Jackall baits are really nice right out of the box.. Don't let the size bother you all sizes work great in this pond... Only problem I have with them is the price! But I learned something this year with the jerkbait, dang gone they are very pricey but man did they work great... Also try the Bonnie 95 it is a great spook look a like that runs great out of the box, very easy to use even my clients that have never used a spook can maje this guy work great!!! Good Fishing Don
  7. Yesterday was really good for me, but today was a whole other story, most of my spots were just hammered by the T-Boys... Had my fish early on the shakey jig with sun and wind for just a few hours.. As soon as the clouds came in that was dead.. Went over to a Spinnerbug and started catching shorts.. Only had Two really good keepers today, everyone else was small.. Wild how these fish change so fast... Good Fishing Everyone.. Don
  8. GOT MY VOTE!!! Good Explaination! Only thing I would add is Creeks.. Go into a creek First point is the main lake point, go back into the creek all of the points from that point on are secondary points.. Make sense... Good Fishing Everyone.. Don
  9. 2009 G3 V210 Advantage, or better known as the BIG Blue Tanker.. Can't miss me stop by and say hello!! Good Fishin Don
  10. Tkite, well stay in the major creek arms.. Go back in about half way back and start on the Secondary points and move into thecreek arm.. Fish will be about half way back into the arm.. Fish are crusing around and protecting beds in some areas.. Steeper Banks with large chunck rock seems to be the best.. Shakey Jigs with 4" green pumpkin worms.. Bite seems to get better in the Afternoon.. Keep checking back if you can, good reports on here.. Good Fishing and Enjoy the Rock Don
  11. Was that you in the Ranger? I came back in around 3:30, after getting beat to death in the wind.. Sorry we missed each other, love to meet guys from on here.. I use Cow creek ramp alot, really nice and it never gets used this time of year.. DoctaJ here is what you are looking for.... Ok here is how my day went... Started out in Cow creek on main creek points on the wind blow side.. Was able to catch a few dinks, started moving into the backs of the pockets and found two more on a white and gold blade. Then fishing really slowed down for us moved around tried Fisher Creek, nothing it has been beat to death. Went into Schooner and started catching little fish but the wind was crazy bad, ended up fishing in the main lake creeks with banks that had 45" bank and chunk rock with ledges right off the bank that fall into deeper water... We kept the boat in 20 feet all day.. Waited out the really bad winds as the warm front came through, winds calmed alittle and right about 2:00 they really started to fire back up, all of shakey jigs with a small 3.5 to 4" green pumpkin paddle tail ring worm. Had a nice Black in the 4 pouund range, another really nice smallie a strong 3.5 pounder and alot of 14 - 15 inch swimers. Just had to keep at it and wait for them to fire up... Finding alot of spawning fish and fish on the beds but very spookey. This warm weather will really fire them up, today I found areas they were not even making beds and areas they were doing the dance... Back out on Friday.. See the Big blue tanker stop by and say Hello, will be up around DAM to COW Creek again.. Good Fishing Everyone Don
  12. Snakem, should have stopped by and said hello! We did allright it was slow in the AM, only a few fish on the split shot rig and shakey jig.. Dropped off that group and stayed out until 5:00pm myself.. Found alot of fish on the beds, some locked some still moving around and very spookey.. I was able to find 63.4 water temp in the back of some really big main lake creeks.. Alof of fish in the spawn and doing the dance with each other, fun to watch.. Had more bigger fish in the PM on the blade and Jig.. I had one spot where it was just loaded with fish, if you could see them they could see you.. Seen some of the biggest fish of the year, just crusing around.. Can't wait for wind it will really turen them on, we will find out today.. Good Fishing Don
  13. Welcome to the club of dang this is going to hurt!!! See you this morning.. Don
  14. HUH? I guess I don't follow your post? You can't have 25 pound bags everyday... And your not going to do it with most clients.. Explain for me will you I'm getting old and slow... Don
  15. Swelb01, you know I have to check what the sizes are and get back with you, never really looked, I let the wind tell me what to use.. My space between the weight and the hook is about 12 "... Zoom Centp Watermelon Cotton candy is just flat working for me right now, also I have been getting bit on a 1/8 ounce shakey jig with this same centp attached.. Get back with you on weight, Good Fishing Don
  16. What was that song, CLICK, CLICK, BOOM!!!
  17. Techo, glad to see you today.. We had a few more fish but still slow.. Had a PM outing and man things changed, All on stickbaits in the wind.. After that front moved thru and the wind changed they really came to life in the main lake creek arms.. I would give more details but I need to be quite for now, the my guys from this afternoon are fishing a small derby on Saturday and I have the AIA on Sunday. But Mr. Babler has explained it very well on all of his posts.. See you on Sunday Don
  18. Tech, yes it is the same color, BLUE... The only change to the wrap this year is the Yamaha Logo is red.... besides that I really like it, runs great! The new F250 is the new high output and has the new cableless shifter.. Man you better be ready for that one, put it into gear and you are gone, very smooth! We will be in JEV's Skeeter this weekend, so we will see you there.. Have fun today if there is alot of wind today don't give up on the stickbait and the grub.. Good Fishing Don
  19. Guys will tell all when I get back in on Thursday... As far as today it was tough for us as well, Don't forget on these Sunny days take out that split shot rig.. Fish were alot smaller but still keepers mixed in.. We will put in at Mill Creek.. Fish around K/C and then maybe up the white, but after your day maybe not!!! I guess we are going to fish the AIA on Sunday, should see you there as well.. Good Fishing.. Don
  20. Spent the day out today and stayed in the Indian Point to Brushey Creek... Started out really good, on my clients first cast hooked into a nice 3.5 spot, then for 4 more hours we had 5 all good keepers.. After 11:00 it really seemed to die on the stickbait, all fish came on the Clown colored McStick.. Yes I had to go buy some!! We even had a little breeze in the afternoon but nothing, switched over to a split shot rig with a cotton candy fish doctor on the main lake points in the creek arms and started catching them again.. No real size but still alot of fun, smaller fish are really stacked up on these points, we had a total in the afternoon of 20 plus fish some small keepers and alot of shorts.. All in all ok day, try it again in the morning, but we are going into K/C and up the White.. Good fishing Everyone Don
  21. Will do... Good Fishing Don

  24. Ok, Folks need some imput or and suggestions, I just Pickup my new 09 boat today and well it has Lowrance units for now... I have a LCX-27c on the dash and a LMS-520c on the front.. Here is what I want to do.. I want to move the LCX-27c to the nose and the LMS-520c to the console.. Can I do this without changing transducers, a basic switch.. Can it be done or do these have special transducers for each??? Also here was my toad for the day, nice spotted bass on a Jig.. Really did not have time to fish needed to get the boat ready, but I just could not help it.. Thanks for any help.. Don House
  25. Here is my claim to fame with all of the guys in my very first bass club about 15 years ago.. Just purchased a brand new Tracker TX-17 boat and I was ready to fish tournaments and take on the world in my new shiney boat.. I was at a spring tournament at Truman Lake, had my oldest daughter with me as my partner.. Floating around before take-off and talking with everyone in their boats, I seen it was getting close to my take-off number so I had the trolling motor down, here is were I made my first mistake, so I just turned it up on HIGH to get around my buddies boats and went towards the bank then down the bank in shallow water to get around everyone and move closer to fire up the big motor.. Well what I did not see or think of was the cables just underwater that hold the dock down to the bottom of the lake.. My trolling motor hit the cable at full speed and it was a rubber band effect!! Launched me Airborne out of the boat head first, all I could do was dive at this point and in I went... Needless to say everything went down hill from there, and to this day If I run into any of those guys they smile and call me the human depth finder... Good Fishing Everyone.. Don
