  1. I found a remington model 5 youth -- it looks like a nice gun -- kind of a knock-off of a cz scout. only other youth model that i've found is a henry lever action. i don't think lever actions are that safe though because of the hammer. doesn't necessarily have to be a youth model though. a 10/22 is small...just not sure i want him to have an auto... any other ideas??? thanks
  2. woody guthrie and trout fishing in america is fun with the kids
  3. i can't believe nobody mentioned phish...

    Almost Time!

i'm sorry i couldn't make it -- my little boy had a birthday party at noon and then the oldest had basketball at 230. just didn't fall right...we'll be at the next one if we can. we were in neosho that morning, and we were going to drive to the stream, but the access that we usually use was closed...

    Almost Time!

i'll be there early -- probably too early -- but we'll pu pick up some trash -- we can't stay long -- both the boys have something going around noon.
  6. a friend of mine fishes spring river at riverton a lot -- they even have jackpot tournaments over there (thursday nights i think) during the summer...i don't go unless i'm with him for fear of tearing something up...the water is shallow and you kind of need to know where you're going. or if you don't mind gravel roads...try bone creek north of arma even after these...i still think lamar is the best option.
  7. i think shallow bill is a heck of a bait....the small one works good in green on creeks or clear water. my favorite on grand is the 2" in american shad...kind of the rainbow color.
  8. not trying to hi-jack the thread but only add some info -- we were at spider creek this weekend -- we caught lots of stockers. my little boys caught close to 50 on gulp/powerbait in three days. we couldn't go up past the boat ramp because of the water level -- and never went past the island. friday we put in at houseman and fished between there and holiday island...we did ok -- picking up a handful of white bass and another of small kentucky's. we trolled mostly -- crawdad colors seemed best.
  9. thanks chief...i sure got a laugh out of the pictures and posts. i'm in for the spring...and for olliefest i've seen that picture (or one similar) of dylan a lot...that boy catches some fish.
  10. i'm out -- working on the pond...wish you luck,,,and good fishing
  11. great! thanks for the report. we are headed to spider creek next week.
  12. the boys and i will be there if the weather holds...i vote for a little further downstream -- just to shake it up a bit.
  13. ya, they'll be there...thanks
  14. ya, i say save your money...we're in for the clean-up by the way.
  15. the ramp sucks -- all the structures and maintenance for that matter. the fishing was good 5 or 6 years ago -- and has progressively gotten worse -- this is the first year in 5 or 6 years that i haven't gotten a membership. the lake is too shallow in my opinion but if you want some place to go close -- it's an option. a lot of stunted crappie -- very few large one's and as soon as they are caught they are kept by other members. bass and catfish fishing is decent in my opinion -- lamar lake is a much better bass fishing lake -- but it is 45 minutes away. if you decide to get a membership -- let me know -- i've got a jon boat that i used out there that i would let go cheap...
  16. Honey Creek State Park on grand would get my vote -- cleaner water -- better facilities.
  17. sounds good -- let me know when it's back on...thanks
  18. any weekend except 10/16 & 17 is good for us -- only thing i'll say is be careful about kids hunting days if you go late october/early november...thanks
  19. sounds good to me...the boys and i will tag along if you don't mind
  20. i'm not sure of the water level, but under normal conditions (if there is such a thing) i'd say in a boat like that the furthest you could go is almost to the bridge up river from Houseman. if you get past that -- the next gravel bar at spider creek would probably derail you. if you get past that one...you could probably make it to betrand, and then parker bottoms. but it would be at idle speed with the motor up. i'd pm zach hoyt and ask him to be sure
  21. i'm in too
  22. i've had two gheenoes. i love em, except for the weight. they are great boats. i had a johnson 5hp on mine. i mostly used it in spring river for white bass. i sold the first one, and then I regretted it. Got lucky and found another, so i bought it. i sold that one earlier this year...wish i hadn't but i did. i sold both of them of them thru the forum, so they're out there somewhere.
  23. you guys ever float out of there???either inbound or outbound. we were up there tonight messing around...catching crawdads and such. lots of junk in the water but what the heck. i didn't take a pole but from what my boys caught in their nets...i'd say it is teeming with fish. point me in a good direction to try this weekend... thanks
  24. where did you get the gheenoe? great boats... nice lake too. never fished it but driven past and dreamed.
  25. if you want to fish the elk...away from the crowds. try cowskin canoe on 43. floats start downriver from the noel dam. it doesn't get near the crowd...the fishing is good.
