  1. they sure arent manly but they run forever and are 4x4.... subaru outback. Go to colorado and you will see so many outbacks... seems like thats all you see.
  2. peppermint oil keeps the mice away and smells better... just wet a cottonball with the oil and place in boat
  3. i try the 3m rule, but my motor sometimes gives me the fits... the best is the cars that hog the middle of a two vehicle ramp......
  4. as a former fly guide in colorado/wyoming... i can relate to this post 100%
  5. ive driven a jeep CJ for years, and i wouldnt consider it the best hunting/fishing rig. The wrangler series would be worse due to the low power. The problem with jeeps is the space inside. Youre going to have problem finding space for rods/reels, gear etc. Youre better off if you remove the back seat completely. Forget the fold and tumble rear seat... Gas mileage on all jeeps are pretty poor. Jeeps are two passenger vehicles, that rear seat i was talking about is wide enough for one. or two kids. If you have that many people you will not find room for gear. that being said i love jeeps, but unless you modify them to haul gear like a roof mounted gear basket or a small trailer youll be frustrated. IMO a small truck with a camper shell is ideal for all-around hunting/fishing.
  6. watch out for flotsam and jetsam, will wreak havoc on your props.......
  7. head over to http://bassboatcentral.com/ and find the setup by todd forum. those guys will get you set up and get your boat running well.
  8. hmm i wonder if some corrosion happened during storage? sometimes luck is good and in your case the luck was bad.
  9. gotta love river otters.... It may not be a civic right to tell us, but IMO i think you should let MDC know of the infractions of fishing upstream from the cable.
  10. Friend passed this link on to me. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/09/biotechfishing/ Here is something to debate.... I know the deer hunting community has been spiking the genepool for years.
  11. im glad someone is doing something fun this fall. Heck i hope i can remember my camera if i do catch a big one.

  13. a fish like that gets big by not being seen. A fish like that could be anywhere from the dam down to 65 bridge hiding in some root wad or clump of boulders.
  14. ya know id think different and probably would change my view if powersite was a PRIMARY power source. Powersite only generates around 2% of the total Empire demand. (as per the joplin globe article) a 100 year old dam that is a supplemental (2%) power source isnt much a "green" power. Empire uses that 2% to just maximize their profits, they arent concerned about being green. they are concerned about profits dont let Empire fool you into thinking they are green.
  15. just an FYI, if you choose to use new new lumber thats pressure treated, you will have to use stainless steel staples or tacks. You could find nails that are triple galvanized or just ACQ rated but on a trailer id find stainless tacks/staples/nails. the new pressure treated wood corrodes regular metal fast.
  16. http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDe...&item=33105 this is the tried and true basic survival handbook. Other books can and will go into detail but this book covers the basics. Had one when i was younger.
  17. long underwear can be made from polypropylene, some fleece sweaters and im sure many other things from this recyclable plastic. the house, senate and governor the three groups is passed though before becoming law.
  18. the whole minimum flow issue revolves around congress, empire district electric and basically the govt paying for lost power generation revenue to empire district electric which owns lake taneycomo. as much as min flows is a logical benefit, the whole govt, money and corps of engineers thing makes it a virtual long shot.
  19. So hiring a contractor or tradesperson is a shortcut in building a house? Hiring a lawyer is a shortcut when you go to court so you dont have to represent yourself? Hiring a doctor to perform a diagnosis is a shortcut... Going to a stockbroker to help you invest your money is a shortcut? blah blah blah.... You sir have a distorted view of reality, and sound like a pompous college professor who has never entered the real world. when i guided out west in colorado I encountered people with this attitude everyday... they all claimed they were the best, had 100+ fish days all the time and had it figured out could cath fish anywhere anytime and beat out anyone else .... I saw through the charade pretty quick and classified them as the "liars and smokeblowers" they all had one thing in common, they all hunted down guides and tried to get info from them and many times when they didnt give them the info they needed they called guides a hoax and started putting them down... These parasites are sad, they feel they only way they can justify their existence in the fishing community and to themselves is to catch high numbers or big fish. and wsill do anything to acheive this goal, follow guides, spy on guides, talk down about guides in general when they should just be out to enjoy themselves. hiring a guide is not a shortcut, they provide a service, that includes a boat (be it a driftboat, bassboat, or a 35ft ocean vessel) gear and knowledge. The simple truth is, unless you learned to fish 100% on your own, that means never talking to a baitshop about what lures (which could be construed as the same as hiring a guide or spying on a guide) never reading a magazine article about fishing techniques, never joining a bass club and talking fishing, never watching tv fishing show, etc etc.... these knowledge aquiring abilities are part of the game. are some guides jerks, yea, people are human......
  20. because people are selfish and only think about themselves. You see it everyday on the road and it transpires onto the lake.
  21. seven years is not near enough IMO.... he will be out to steal again in less then a year..... this putz' face should be plastered on every dock and baitshop w/in 7 miles of any lake....
  22. more info on the theft bust. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmas...a_news_20090724
