  1. 1) It's possible 2) It's very dangerous I've been staying out till late and we'll after dark lately. I've seen a lot of boaters running without lights or minimum light use. So please consider this when selecting an area and avoid main waterways used for navigation. Stay closer to the banks within 100-150yrds if possible. I'd hate for someone to run over you because they were not paying enough attention and didn't see you. And be sure and use navigational lights. Not sure how that works on a yak but I'd use lights for sure. As for bait, that can vary. Top water can be a good option. Live bait is also good wwith line out from 50-100ft behind your vessel and moving about .6-.1mph. The hard part is finding the stripers. In a yak, you can't pick up and move to another area so easily so you're pretty committed to an area. Which can be a good thing for an angler sometimes. You can try the 12 bridge area but like I said, be very cautious and watch out for other boats. Keep a bright light handy and be prepared to part someone's hair with that light. :-)
  2. And I'd say you had an awesome day considering the traffic.
  3. Was it green? With a flag on it?
  4. I was thinking same thing. But I have caught some very skinny ones this year. Terribly skinny.
  5. Interesting....
  6. I have 3 or 4 BPS Extreme reels, 2 BPS Prolites (discontinued), a Shimano reel I won from Jimmy Houston (literally), and I have several Academy H20 Mettle reels. The BPS reels I've had since 2004-2005. Never had them serviced by a reel mechanic. I just clean them and re-lube them once a year. The Prolites I've had for almost as long. The H20 reels I've had for about 2-3yes now and they will OUTCAST everything I have. I use one for A-rigs. I've only paid over $100 for a baitcaster once. I returned it. I just don't think they are worth over $100 and most of mine, I've paid $50-60. Oh. I do have a BPS Pro Qualifier. It's super smooth and casts crankbaits awesomely. I really like it and it's a $100 reel. I've not bought into the hype of Lews and Shimano. I am happier with lesser expensive equipment in general. Rods included. I have 3 St Croix Avid rods and a St Croix Mojo bass. Awesome rods. I also have some H20 rods and they are super light and great. I've broke a few, Academy just keeps exchanging them for me. I dont buy into all they hype. I shop for what I like and what has good reviews. Then I check it out for myself. That's just me.
  7. Well? How was first day?
  8. I got to the lake about 6:20(pm) for a little late afternoon action. Ran up river to check an area. Ended up finding a new crappie hole. I'll have to go back to that one when I have my crappie gear. Left it out this trip (figures....irony loves me). Checked my area to see if it had walleye, crappie, etc. No signs/marks on the graph that I wanted and no bites. So I ran to my other spot where I had been catching small stripers and good bass. It's been a fun area and the last two trips have re-confirmed what has taken me a long time to learn about Beaver for bass fishing. The big ones live offshore and dare I say.........some of them haven't been caught before. The first fish below is a 15" spot (at least I think it's 15" if memory serves, I believe I measured it). He inhaled my live bait and pulled back on the rod but then stopped and started swimming with the boat. I was slow drifting (looking for food fish, not bass). When I started reeling in, the fight was on. Then I had Mr. Greenjeans and Ms. Browneyed Girl show up later after dark. I also caught an 18" striper that was chunky. Hated to turn him lose but.......law says 20" so he went back (you're welcome striper haters). He was real fun to catch too. Pulled drag at the boat several times. Had a tough time getting the striper in the boat and a tough time netting the big smallmouth. There's just no quit in them. I had a fuse randomly blow out on me (first in the new boat) and I was chasing that down for a while. Or else I think I would have had more fish in the few hours I was out. Night fishing was fun too but it can be dangerous. IF you were out last night in a bass boat running on plane at full throttle just before it was pitch black dark and you didn't have your lights on..........YOU'RE AN IDIOT! I saw two bass boats doing this. Too darn lazy to get out their lights and turn them on. You're going to get someone else killed too so please.............obey the law for the sake of others.

  10. Very nice. Walleye for me this year have been well........hiding. When I do see them on the graph, they don't seem to want to bite what I have. The B&B may have to get added to the boat soon.
  11. Hey that's pretty!!!!! I like that color scheme. Good luck! Stripers have been on the move but look for them in the middle of large coves (like Coose, Van Winkle, etc., not small coves.....ones that are a mile plus) and look for them from anywhere between the middle of the cove (main channel) up towards the bank. Drifting live bait has been working well. I'm about to post a report now. Good luck and safe travels!
  12. That was for you bub. I wore my Legend Jersey since I got to fish from the big boat. :-)
  13. Wow. That's awesome info right there. Pretty much aligns withwhat I've suspected and learning in other presentations. A great big thank you!!
  14. SO............ We will see more jersey's on the lake than we did with FLW??? LOL!! Couldn't resist.
  15. BassinHawg, Did I talk to you on Crappie.com? :-) If yes, PM me.
  16. One of your videos explained that many people don't catch fish because how the fish their jig. Something about having a bow in the line and not keeping the line taught? Can you explain that a bit more and how you feel a jig should be fished? For some reason, I just don't have as much luck on a jig as I used to. No matter WHERE I fish or what lake I'm on. Its me and the jig.....not the lake. I'm either restraining the action by keeping rhebline too taught or I'm over working the jig, or something. It's supposed to be very versatile bit I'm not seeing many bites if any. I am learning the Ned which is teaching me to slow down, don't over work a bait, and how to fish on slack line. Which is transferring to other presentations as well with hard baits, etc. Thoughts? Much appreciated!!!
  17. Yep. Amazing what you find off the bank. :-)
  18. Yep. Amazing what you find off the bank.
  19. You're kidding right? 300-400?? Well this cements my plan for a late afternoon trip and night fishing trip. Yak....you in? :-)
  20. They all broke the 9lb mark. Per the video posted on the Crappie Masters Facebook page.
  21. The Crappie Masters tournament sure made a good showing. They broke the record on Beaver. Seems spider rigging worked well for the winners. Small tubes and light line I heard. Yakfm picked up a crappie bait a flung it to a dock to see if he could catch one and sure enough, he did. But he's just good like that. I could have casted to it 50 times and maybe caught one. :-) They are starting to bite but it's been slow for most. Great for some. Depends on what you're doing and where you are I guess. I'm ready to get back on them. I took a trip to North Louisiana a few weeks ago for crappie and learned a few tricks that may help me. Sorry I can't really offer any insight. I would say try docks. Find a patten and work it.
  22. ^ I can't fold up a bucket and store it. I'll stick with the sock for my size boat. :-)
  23. Great post! It really burns me up when I see people holding bass incorrectly. Especially the big ones. And Pros are as guilty if not more guilty than anyone. I actually picked up a crappie and heard it's jaw snap (It was about to get on the fillet table so it didn't bother me any). It's easy to damage the jaw. Be respectful of the sport we all love so much.
  24. Its amazing how soaking it will catch fish. There has to be a little bit of current or flow to make the worm move a little. If there are fish present when it hits the water, I think the see/feel it and follow it wiggling to the bottom. When it just sits there, they watch (or feel for it) and when it's doing nothing but sitting it peaks there curiosity. Eventually they figure it's an easy meal and just bite it. That's my theory anyway. And why I'm fishing many other baits much slower or vice versa, much faster for reaction strikes. Yep. Dave's jigheads are awesome. I like the wire guards myself because I fish around a lot of cover and rocks.
  25. Thank you sir. I'm really happy with it. I was thinking of how to fish deep, cover water, not fish too quickly with a slow to medium presentation, and not have to use the trolling motor. Having an aluminum boat over one of those 21 foot bass rigs that the pros use puts me at a disadvantage when it's windy. I might as well have hoisted a sale on my rig when it is blowing hard like that. So I want to drift with the wind and fish. Make a pass, then turn on the big motor and go back and start again. Was working for me late Friday on the spot where I was fishing.
