I would post the water temps but I honestly do not remember. I believe 72? Water temp dropped a little from earlier this weekend. It was about 75 Saturday.
Feathers&Fins and I had to get another quick trip in before the end of the weekend. Knowing the traffic would be bad, we wanted to get out for only a few hours before the "bedlam" started and before the afternoon storms.
We started around 6:30 trolling the favorite bait of choice (Flickers) and the only participant was little Willy Walleye. There must be several of these little guys in the Rock Branch area. They will hit on almost every pass.
We tried to repeat some of Saturday's success using the Bobby Garland jigs but no biters. No wind. The old saying on Beaver Lake is "wind is your friend" and that certainly held up today. Later in the day, the wind picked up and we were able to get some crappie on the Bobby G's. I was using my 12' crappie rod and it was a hoot! I also caught 4 crappie to F&F's one. THAT WAS A GOOD FEELING. Especially when it's usually the other way around. So this one time............I have to wallow in my little tiny victory. :-)
So the results were:
- wind was the key, nothing big, just a light breeze
- fish were feeding around 15ft deep with a slow slow retrieve
Here is a sample of the crappie. This is a nice healthy 15.25" crappie. The image below is a 10" keeper and the 15" is below. This was a very nice keeper size fish. I thought I was hung on a brush pile but eventually, the fish pulled back and the fight was on.
I ended the day with a fish fry. Can't be that! :-)
