  1. Spiderwire has a new "sinking" braid (Spiderwire Ultracast Fluoro Braid) that I plan to try on my vertical grubbing using a 6# flouro leader.
  2. Absolutely, name your price. Semper Fi, Joe
  3. Added inside pictures.....
  4. We all wish him the very best. Hope they got it all of the cancer and he will be back on the water soon. Please keep us posted on his recovery. Keep charging, Joe
  5. This topic has been discussed before, so here is what works for me. For topwater, I use 15# Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid tied directly to the topwater bait with a King Sling Loop knot. I use a cheap 12# mono for reel backing (1/4 of the reel). For all spinning and baitcasting equipment for shaky head, dropshot, jigs, and just about all soft plastic fishing, I use the Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid 15# (open, clear water, very little cover) or 20# (heavy cover/dirty water)with a uni-to-uni knot to either a 4-5 foot leader of P-line Floroclear or Yo-Zuri Hybrid Clear (8# - clear water up to 15# dirty water) tied with a Fish-N-Fool knot. I use a cheap 12# mono for reel backing (1/4 of reel). It is so easy to set the hook with braid. You can feel everything and see your line in all water and sky conditions. The leader provides near invisibility in the water. I can cast just as far with this braid and it lasts many fishing seasons. I am on year THREE with most of my braid. Do you get TWO to THREE years out of your mono and fluorocarbon? I have used Fireline and PowerPro, but the Spiderwire Invisi-Braid is the smoothest and strongest. It is rod friendly and casts the best. When using braid with no stretch, you must change the way you set the hook. It only takes a small jerk of the rod (about an 18" jerk with rods 6'6" and less and 12" with a 7' rod). For crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, flukes, swimbaits, swimming jigs, etc., as stated before, I do not use any fluorocarbon line. It just does not hold up for me. Get it tangled and that part of the line is history. It is brittle and breaks too easy in Winter. The knot strength is not good. It is overpriced. Mono has too much stretch and does not have the abrasion resistance. I use a hybrid line that is nylon on the inside and coated with fluorocarbon. I use the same P-Line Floroclear and YoZuri's copolymer line that I use as leaders on my braid. All are tied with the Fish-N-Fool knot. The copolymer construction makes the line very castable and amazingly durable with high knot-strength and low-memory. And, it is affordable. The fluorocarbon coating gives it the same near invisibility under water as expensive fluorocarbon. Depending on the water clarity, cover, and the lure, I will use 8#, 10#, 12#, and 15# test.

  7. Congrats Larry.....sorry I was not the buyer. The pontoon did not sell, yet. Good luck! Glad I could help.
  8. Here is a link to the Lowrance site that states that the 192 is no longer available. I would try craig's list, ebay, or old Marine shops that may have one. You may want to give Ulrich Marine a call.....they have a lot of stuff.....417.272.1852. Good luck! Lowrance Link
  9. Let's try it again.......
  10. I posted your pictures for you. Click Here For Boat Pictures
  11. It is a client personal choice. The older gentleman could not swim and was afraid of the water and wanted to wear the jacket all day. I think his son-in-law wanted to make him feel better and he wore his all day, too. I always wear mine, as well; however, I make sure that it is a lightweight self-inflatable jacket.
  12. On Sat. there were over 40 boats in that spot. No sarcasm intended. I like it when they are all there, then there are less on my other spots.
  13. Had clients today from KS. We caught 23 Kentucky and White Bass. The White Bass are still located at the mouth of the new spillway at the dam. Since it is Monday, there were only 20 or so boats there this morning. We caught 10 in about the first hour using white 1/2 oz. spoons. Moved out to the points on the main lake and managed 13 Kentuckys, with 4 keepers. We were drop shotting nightcrawlers and all fish were returned to bite another day. Here are some pics.
  14. You insert the needle until you hear the air come out. Just a normal sized syringe will do.
  15. Here is my old post....reposted here. Here is the best procedure that I have found for fizzing a fish. I use the through the mouth procedure. After inserting the needle, I hold the fish and needle underwater and watch the bubbles come out. I don't take all of the air out. Leave some in. When the bubbles start to slow down, I will stop, but I will check the fish periodically and sometimes I need to fiz the same fish again. I rarely lose a fish. I previously used the side method, but it is more difficult than the mouth method. The mouth method allows you to hold onto the fish easier during the procedure. Plus, I have read that sometimes fish will pick up a disease at the insertion point into the side. The mouth method is safer for the fish. Click Here
  16. Yes, I do. Please email the pictures to joe@captainjoesguideservice.com Thanks!
  17. Perris Lake in CA has a very large tire farm that was constructed. I find it odd that the environmentalists in CA did not object. Tires are banned from landfills out there. However, the tire farm consists of auto tires half filed with cement and lined up flat on the bottom of the lake that clearly show up on your graph. There are great attractors for fish. Just sharing..... Jason, those GPS coordinates would be helpful. How much?
  18. Could you please provide some photos?
  19. Donna, I have been using the Double Uni knot. When you buy Fireline Crystal, it has instructions inside that shows you how to tie, what they call, a Uni-to-Uni know, but it is still the Double Uni. What is great about this knot, it is meant for lines of different diameter. Some other knots are for lines of the same diameter. This is what makes the Double Uni or Uni-to-Uni knot a good knot. I have been using it for years and when I get hung up and have to break the line, it RARELY breaks at the Uni knot connection, thus saving my leader. I use the Fish N Fool knot for tying to the hook/lure. Bill....I am on year THREE on my braid. The stuff last along time. Best Braid: Spiderwire Invisi-Braid. 2ND BEST: Fireline Crystal. I do not use Mono for anything.
  20. The catfish are just about everywhere. I have caught them on topwater at night and off the side of shallow points. I would look for small pockets off the main lake during the day and the side of points during the evening. I use cut up shad as my bait. Attached is a photo of a cat that I caught from shore in the Mill Creek Campground about a month ago. I was about 50 yards from the main point of the campground and it was early evening. Good luck!
  21. You have a good graph. I would still keep working on it. If it worked in the past, it may work again. I would save your settings and waypoints and do a hard reset for your unit. This will restore the unit to factory settings. I would then turn off all automatic settings and manually set everything like you did before. Try this and see if this works. Good luck, Joe
  22. CMAC, It was great meeting you last week. When I get a new transducer, I try to make a mental note to myself how well my unit is performing with the new transducer. Over time, when I notice a significant drop off in performance, I know it is time to replace the transducer. I hit alot of stuff. In the deeper water, you have to make sure that your unit is complete manual mode. Turn off everything, including fish icons, surface clutter, noise, sensitivity, etc. Then, play with your ping, chart speed, and sensitivity to get the right settings. Remember, as the day goes, so does your settings and you need to change them as the water density changes. I usually start in 20 feet of water with a 10" worm on. I play with the settings as I go into deeper water, making sure that I can see the worm. Hope this helps, Joe
  23. Jason, I use a 4-5' 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid line that is flouro coated and it is tied to 20# Spiderwire Invisi-Braid. I want the jig to fall real slow as most of my bites occur on the fall. I also want to feel everything on the bottom, so the braid does this for me. I agree with Denjac on setting the hook. Yesterday, I was dragging the jig through a brush pile. I felt a spongy resistance, made sure he had it, and set. The jig was completely buried in his mouth. Denjac.....you know where my cove is. It is the second one on the left.
  24. Drop shot here, drot shot there. Almost everywhere a drop shot with only little ones. But I did pick up a jig, Eakins 3/8, Peanut and Butter, and landed this 20 in. 4.13 smallmouth in Big Indian. This fish is now swimming in my cove.
  25. Had a father and son guide trip last year during early Spring and the son stated that his face was really cold when we motored around. I got the face mask out and let him wear it. He thought it was the greatest mask he ever wore. He said that he felt like a hockey goalie. He even posed for this picture. The kids love it.......
