  1. I have two sage fly rods that are almost impossible to get apart in hot weather, even if you lubricate them each time you assemble. I don't recall how I came up with this rememdy, but it continues to work for me and has never failed. Rub the ferral with ice or even a bottle of ice cold water from your cooler. Guaranteed, it works every time. Ten to fifteen seconds is all it takes.
  2. I took a short trip to bssp this afternoon. I parked at the lower end of zone 2, and I was gearing up, I noticed an honest to goodness game warden vehicle viewing the activities of the stream. He was zeroed in on some bait fishermen that were located about 150 feet upstream of the whistle bridge. As I was on my way to the creek, he was confronting the individuals, but I didn't stick around to witness the results for fear that he might smell the powerbait on my flies. It was good to see him out and about.
  3. Thanks for the story and the pics. That's what it's all about.
  4. Keep your fingers crossed. A gulf hurricane making landfall in tx or la could spell diaster for the whole white river system. I was working in springfield during the storms last week. A storm water ditch was near our job site. The ditch was about 20 feet wide and four deep. It ran bank full for the entire day. I am amazed that this past storm only added a couple of feet of water to the rock. See you down there jefly.
  5. Thanks. I enjoy fishing the current. I was there 3 weeks ago and had a great time.
  6. Yeah. I forgot about the beavers Leonard. They also have more snakes.
  7. We could all come down to the current.
  8. Keep us posted on the results, Duane.
  9. You must be parking on the upper end, didn't see your vehicle.
  10. Where you been Leonard? I have looked for you on the water the past 2 weeks.
  11. Likewise Bruce. I hope you and Matt got into some good fish. The only ones that I could catch were the dumb ones.
  12. most people will disagree with me, but I always catch my biggest night fish on a moon. I acutually target the moon phase.
  13. Thanks for the photo's and report Greg. I was there friday nite and saturday morning. Fishing was extremely tough then, as well. At least for me anyway. I struggled to catch 8 fish on friday night, and things were just starting to improve about the time I left on saturday. I had the pleasure of having a short, and enjoyable conversation with Bman and his son ohmz138. I hope to run into you and your son sometime this fall.
  14. I will just assume that you are talking about "trout" since you posted on this on ULT. I don't know a thing about the lower lake, but if you are a wading fly rodder, on the upper end, taney's trout bite 24 hrs a day in all water conditions. I have noticed minor surges in activity when they first start up generation.
  15. That's good FW. There is probably more truth in that statement than joke.
  16. I have always avoided the problem by telling the person to just meet me where we plan to fish. It's simple for me, because a boat is never involved, only wade fishing. This way you can fish while you wait and just let the people show up on their own schedule. I'm not a very good babysitter, so most do not ask for a return visit.
  17. HIgh water during generation periods makes it very hard to fish if you are a wading angler. It will not stop the run. Tremendous crowds during low water periods will have the fish on guard and hard to catch legally. Most will be snagged, dragged and bragged about. But again it will not stop the run. Warm water from a flood gate event will stop it dead in its tracks. It will send them scurring back to mid lake untill the following fall. Taneycomo will turn into missouri's largest trout park come late september. Come on down but do not expect to have any elbow room or much in the way of streamside courtesy during that time period.
  18. A great looking fish Justin. Thanks for posting.
  19. It was a pleasure visiting with you AirparkSouth. I am planning another trip this friday if the schedule is good. It was an exceptionally good night for quality fish. Glad you got into them as well. About a month from now the rest of the night crowd will start showing up on a routine basis. I will introduce you to the ones you haven't met. A great bunch of guys, and some of the best night fishermen that I know. Most of them fish long flys, so that will be right down your alley. Hope to see you on friday.
  20. Back in the 60's I remember reading an article in one of the fishing mags of that time, maybe outdoor life. It talked of a local legend at TR by the name of Welch. I think his first name was Sam. He supposedly had caught hundreds of bass from TR over 4 pounds, with quite a few pushing the 10 pound mark. Anyone remember that name or the story behind it?
  21. Rockbridge used to have some in the past. The one I fished was sponsored by Mark Neuman out of St. Louis. I would think that you could sponsor one yourself there. Rockbridge makes its money from the fish weighed in at the end of the tourney. It was a 20 dollar entry and 34 of us fished for the biggest 5 fish stringer. I was lucky enough to catch a 29.5 pound stringer and place 3rd. You could basically start a braggin rights tourney on any of missouri's trout waters. Set an entry fee that would be donated to a local charity or youth group. Count me in.
  22. The Seeforellen strain introduced in Lake Michigan is specifically adapted to grow large in lakes. New York state, has introduced them as well. In a field and stream article from 1955, shows two seeforellen browns from scotland at 55 and 56 pounds. The fish that Healy caught, the 41 pound seven ounce, was only six years old. I think they would do well in taneycomo. Add some triploid rainbows, and I would start wearing a life jacket at night.
  23. October??? I feel your pain. By then the fish have been walked on, stomped on, snagged and drug over every rock above rebar. They can reconize, at a glance, every brand of wading shoe on the market. After mid september most are holdover fish and they get tough as nails. Most days they will send you home talking to yourself. But the prospect of seeing, and the thought of catching, one extremely large fish keeps us all coming back for more abuse.
  24. We need some of those seeforellens in taney Leonard. Thanks for posting.
  25. I'll have to agree with Pete, hurricanes and flood gates are not friendly to us. I remember your posts and pics from July, they are right on Bruce. I ran into a guy named Lee on friday nite. He told me that it was his third trip, in the past week, in an attempt to catch a nite time taney rainbow with no success. How can you walk away from a guy that was trying so hard to catch a fish. I gave him one of my sowbugs that I call the "midnight special", and had the pleasure of witnessing him land his eighth rainbow before I quit at 3am. I think I had more fun than he did. Hope to see guys on the water soon.
