  1. LOL if you are used to loz, then nothing could be possibly as bad.
  2. Our very own Al Agnew is the featured artist for at least two of the trout stamps. Might be a good place to start.
  3. Good luck Pete, keep us posted. May be down friday night.
  4. Thanks Phil, Just trying to get something going calling them smb's "rough fish".
  5. Don't suppose they had a breakdown on male vs female in that count? Typical year would include more males right now. Glad to hear total numbers are up. If any big fish survived, they will show.
  6. Are there any regs in place on taney as far as smallmouth? Is it all keep and kill? Did not know if any special regs, length limit, apply to rough fish in the trophy area. And by rough fish I mean anything other than trout.
  7. Your time frame looks good. By thanksgiving it will be all over for the browns. Most will have departed to the main lake before then. Rainbows will still be good until january. I think rr Tim has noticed some brown activity last week. A few small ones are showing up at night.
  8. Well I have avoided this thread until Brian Jones brought up the very issue that concerns me. Night fishing as I do makes me quite concerned entering the parking lot at 1 or 2 oclock in the morning. I could care less about the bears and cougars that roam the shores of lake taneycomo. Over the recent few years some late night drinkers and some fruit bearing individuals have been using the lighted pavilion as their party spot. I witness this about 2 to 3 times over the course of the summer season and mostly on week nights. I quite often nap in my vehicle, and one night I am woke up by a somewhat drunk individual attempting to open my car door. Now, by accident, I don't know. My yelling a few curse slogans at him helped in his departure. Entering the parking lot and encountering some type of a crime is what concerns me the most. I carry a loaded snake charmer in the vehicle and I am considering a sidearm while fishing.
  9. I have never fished beaver, but I would assume that it would be alot like taney after dark. When the streamer bite is working, there is probably no better way to catch all sizes of fish. From what I understand, beaver does not have the population of fish that taney has, and most certainly alot fewer big fish. I am not much on streamers so I fish sowbugs and scuds at night and it too can be an effective way of catching fish. I use two methods, under a lighted indictor in the riffles and tailouts, and a "snipping" method similar to streamer fishing. Both methods work for me. Now, the sowbugs I use are big, size 10 mostly but sometimes an 8. Does not matter so much what color as long as they are grey or tan. Between the end of july through november last season, I caught 52 fish between 3.5 and 12.5 using these two methods. I am not sure that one method is any better than the other. Had probably 2 handfuls of fish between 5 and 7 lbs.
  10. Phil is right about the larger fish in september. The large males actually start coming up right about now but only during times of generation. It has always been a pre spawn ritual for the larger males. If you are wading, you only have a short window of opportunity. About an hour after generation starts, they head back to the main lake. In september a few will start holding over after the water goes down. I know nothing of your chances in a boat, my info is only good if you are wading.
  11. Typically in october you will have less generation and fewer browns. Most will have had the spawning urge scared right out of them from the wading masses. In november you will have greater numbers but fewer opportunities because of the generation and less water for the wading angler. Its a crap shoot at best. When you go, spend as much time on the water as possible and be on guard for that one opportunity at a large fish.
  12. I will give u a call Murdoc.
  13. Sorry Phil, I wish him a speedy recovery.
  14. Sounds like you did ok, even though you couldn't catch a" takehome " fish.
  15. Howdy Brian, you are quite right about the fish not liking that half unit. And to add further to than, they have" never" liked one unit or less. It is not enough water to bring them to the banks, so they hold farther out in the current. This makes it a lot more difficult for the wading angler above # 3. I am thinking that this half unit stuff would be pretty close to what they would call "minimum flow".
  16. Well? You're not camped out on that fish?
  17. I have a friend living there but don't know much about the lake. I do know that he fishes the rivers instead.
  18. Howdy Pete, I hope you catch her.
  19. Your dad and I could blame that on memory loss.
  20. Well howdy Bruce, good to see you back on here. It has been a while. I remember you telling the story about that big female, and remember Matt saw one the year before. It is time for taney to hold both records.
  21. Second friday night trip in a row that they have started generating shortly after midnight. I was in hope that they were lying as they do quite often. This half a unit is wadeable, to some degree, but just a poor level to hold fish close in to the bank, on the upper end. Now, tonight they are scheduled to be off at midnight. What do you want to bet, they shut it off at 5:00 PM. That will give the fish time to be good and scattered by dark, like last night.
  22. Yeah to OAF, we enjoy it very much Phil.
  23. Not a thing, it is all part of trout fishing.
  24. My dream lake is already in existence. It is located about 125 miles southwest of loz and produces trophy, state record, and world record class fish. Trophy fish are there for the taking on a daily basis. It is regularly fished by some of my closest friends. It is a rare occasion that I do not encounter one of them whether it be day or night. And like Al said, It is no push over, there is still some challenge to catching fish. Not sure I could wish for anything better. On the map it is listed as Lake Taneycomo.
  25. Yep, made that same mistake last friday night with the schedule.
