  1. And I doubt that the client or the guide will ever boat another fish that large in their lifetime.. Stories like this one need to be told so that fishermen like us can still have our hopes and dreams of catching a fish of this magnitude. The people who manage and maintain the fishery should appreciate and deserve the recognition as well.
  2. WOW a tremendous brown congrats to the fisherman and the guide.
  3. Well stl, the niangua used to grow big browns, several up to 15 lbs, were caught in the late 80's and the 90's. As Wayne stated, not so much anymore. Only a couple of respectable fish have been caught since 2000, a 17lber caught by our own OAF member Jeff Tief, and an 18lber caught by Jack Bushacker. I am afraid conditions will not improve with the current administration being guided and led around by the nose from the 2 gentlemen that Wayne talked about. The new hatchery facilities is just a guise like a well planned CoC event. Kind of a "come on down" things are getting better. I am a huge supporter of MDC, but somehow bssp is falling through the cracks. I am not sure why they are turning a deaf ear to the anglers and the local business owners not associated with JR.
  4. Yep, you are absolutely correct Wayne, I have said the very same thing for years.
  5. Could very well be there Bill.
  6. Wow, a great looking rainbow. Congrats
  7. Yep, them boys in the bibs knew what people wanted and how to maintain that. They left the grass mowing to the professionals.
  8. Hi Fw, sounds as if they are doing little to nothing. The project must have been bid in phases, and it's not time for the next phase as of yet. We sure wouldn't want it completed ahead of schedule.
  9. For any of you out there wanting to experience fishing at night for the first time or the 100th time, I would highly recommend a trip with Micheal. I have fished many times with him, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed in his services. Glad to see you out and about again Micheal. Rick Osborn
  10. I am at the 5mm on the big, and they have been doing quite well just off Owen point and downstream about 200 yds. Fishing shad and hot dogs at about 25 feet. Hope you do well. I would think that your area, linn creek cove and just down, libby cove would be good as well. Find the shad and you will find the fish. Give us a report.
  11. Trout Glenn was owned by a gentleman named Miller. He had no rearing facilities that I am aware of. All of the trout must have been shipped in. The resturant and the lodge closed down in the early 60's, and about ten years later, as i recall, Mr. Miller passed away. It was inherited by his daughter and was later sold to the state. The spring and all of the out buildings were allowed to run down, and later tore down by the state. We still caught trout for a few years following Miller's death, and in the 80's some brown trout appeared in the spring branch. No one is sure where they came from. My brother in law, Mike Parker, caught one near six lbs, and I heard of one at seven lbs being caught. Most were kept like the rainbows, and as far as I know they were caught out. You mentioned the kinderhook property where your cousin lived. I have wandered those ridges and valleys also. A family by the name of Ebinstein owned alot of the property there, and their property was sold to the kinderhook people who built the golf course. Also the name kinderhook was used prior to the name Camden for the county. Like you, i always wanted the state to continue the trout fishing.
  12. We have to add the catfish as the "blue back trout", I am all for it.
  13. Haven't been by for a couple of weeks but the crowds were on the light side for the weekend. hope you do well.
  14. Look forward to this every month. Some sound and great advice and tips and how to's on ozark trout fishing. Thanks.
  15. Safety is always the number one issue. Even though I have never seen them run water on a boat ramp horn, I would never recommend that you disregard the warning. Be on guard and do not leave yourself in a "no way out" situation. Hopefully this issue will get resolved so when you hear the horn, we know it means generation. Be safe, and especially at night.
  16. We addressed that in another topic, and Brian shaffer is waiting on a response from the superintendant at the dam. No word yet that I am aware of. It has happened like you encountered several times in past years, but this year is occuring on a regular basis.
  17. Hi NoLuck, Jack didn't use to be that way. When Mitchell took over, Jack had issues like the rest of us. So somehow in his mind, this is how he get's even. I have talked to Jack about this to no avail. I keep telling him that he is basically shooting himself in foot. Not returning any big fish to the water has an extreme effect on all of us. With a limited number of big fish in the creek, and new brood stock being released on rare occasions, he is not doing anyone, including himself, any favors. He is trying to prove a point to someone who does not care. Mitchell is probably having a good laugh about it.
  18. Hi Wayne, an excellent assessment of a sight fisherman, thank you.
  19. This is why I take so much offense when someone starts badmouthing sight fishermen, and I am not saying you are because I have read several of your posts. I am pretty sure you know the score. Most just assume that these fish are not being caught in fair chase and a sportsman like manner.
  20. Bssp will never be what it once was. Aweber, I can tell by your comments that you are an experience angler and successful at bssp. I grew up fishing bennet and learned alot about fish and how to catch them. What made bssp the premier trout park were the numbers of big fish and the opportunity to catch one. I have talked with the current hatchery director, and I know for a fact that he does not like lunker or sight fishermen. Up until the time he took over, it was possible to find 30 to 40 big fish in the creek on any given day. That came to a grinding halt. The numbers and the quality of stocked fish went on a downhill slide. He was responsible for initiating the 4 fish limit. IMO, things will not change while he is in charge. His attitude has put an economic stress on shops and motels in that area. And some have folded I am sorry to say.
  21. thanks Brian, hope we get an answer.
  22. FYI Cad, they only blow the horn to signal new generation. Nothing when they shut it down. And speaking of the horn, they have been blowing the boat ramp horn and not the one at the dam during the night. In years past this meant no new generation, and so far this season it is the same. I don't have a clue why they do that, does anyone know? You need to be on guard when they sound it, but so far it means nothing. IF the one at the dam sounds, it is the real thing.
  23. Hey Phil, I think Brian is talking about midnight on saturday night, 12:01 would be the 15th. That being said, I will be there provided the schedule is calling for water off.
  24. As a kid I used Wheaties cereal. Don't even know if you can still buy it. Surely you can. Reach into the box and get a large handful, with your hand closed, dip it into the water and slowly squeeze the wheaties into a dough ball. Cast softly with a sidearm motion and hang on.
  25. Well Noluck, I wish you good luck at montauk. And I will have to agree with Jeff, if you want a great time and match your fighting skills against some lunker size rainbows, then Rockbridge is the place to be right now.
