  1. Well FTA, you were brave to venture here on a holiday weekend. Sounds as if you did well. Crappie are all but extinct on the upper end of the lake, 5mm big niangua, but the longboat traffic is not. Seems to be an exceptionally large number of longboats in our area, which we have never had in the past. My dock is taking a beating. Good to hear you caught a future fish dinner.
  2. Looks like dinner Thom, good catch.
  3. Can't get swp to work. Any one know the schedule tonight?
  4. A gigantic fish for sure. My congrats and I wish him the best of luck on the record. IGFA can be tuff, it is normally a long process with their requirements and judging board. They cater more to salt water because thats where they make their money. Sometimes freshwater gets put on hold. I had a fresh water record verified once, and it took 7 months. They have several requirements, and you have to make the grade on each and every one.
  5. He means TR.
  6. Like you say, once holding a record is something that they can never take away. Being a "former" record holder myself, let me say congrats on your record.
  7. Last year I started using using gravy train, seems to put alot of scent into the water. When I would bait up in deeper water, say 10 feet, I would catch a few blues and channels. The catfish like the white or pearl. With dog food you have to put it in a bag with some weight to sink it.
  8. Howdy Wayne. Once you get them coming in to the bait, almost any fly will work. It is best to suspend the fly under an indicator. The carp will eat any color, but white or pearl works best on the buffalo. Since the weekend I have caught a 16 lb buffalo and a 6 lb carp. They are just now starting to get active and cruising the shoreline. I have not had a lot of success with streamers and other big stuff. A sowbug or scud imitation on a 10 or a 12 seems to be the ticket.
  9. Thanks for that update Brian, we will be able to see the bears coming now.
  10. Howdy Russ, I have used a" double surgeons " forever. One thing I have discovered, mono and flouro do not mix well. One will cut through the other. Not sure which is the cutting culprit, but I would suspect flouro cuts mono.
  11. Taneycomo has the record for "alternative method" with a 15 lb rainbow caught on a limb line using a french fry for bait.
  12. I fished it on saturday, little fish and not very many at that. The stream is really lacking in quality and quantity.
  13. Well that's a relief to know.
  14. Thank you, but don't be starting no bear rumors around me. I will be too dang nervous to fish.
  15. This is to Phil or anyone else in the know. What in the world has happened to our lighted pavilion and the parking lot lights below the hatchery? Also, the lower lights at the hatchery are out as well. Are we not paying enough tax payer dollars to keep them lit? I miss the safety factor that comes with being able to leave your vehicle in a well lit lot. I will be packin the snake doctor once again. Who would you have to contact to find out what's going on there?
  16. First thing, nice fish Leonard. Second thing, I would think a 30lb carp would be hard to come by in missouri. I have baited up and caught many at loz. largest caught was an 18lb on 5x, largest witnessed coming in to the bait was not much larger than the 18. I have done that for several years and never witnessed a carp much larger than 20.
  17. This is a really great aspect of this forum. Not only wrench, but several others are always there to offer assistance, or advice or even directions to their favorite fishing hole. Thank you forum members.
  18. Well I can thank you personally then. Good to know who you are on the forum.
  19. Some good interviews, I look forward to more in the future. I especially liked Duane's take on fishing the upper lake at night. Tell Steve to keep them coming. I am guessing that Phil is one of the sponsors for the program, so thanks again Phil, for the many things you do for the forum.
  20. He might kill them fish to the point of extinction. Ban all fish limits and make it illegal to do something legal. Give it a rest people it aint none of your business.
  21. You could not have asked for a finer night on the creek. It's not always about catching large numbers of fish. As best as we could count, only 4 other people out last night and everyone was quiet and courteous. I will be the first to admit that I am not a "good" streamer fisherman and fishing was tuff. Last night proved that point because I got taken to streamer school by 2 anglers that are good. I finally just gave up and enjoyed the show. MC was definately outfishing DD. I was like the turtle on the freeway, I didn't stand a chance. DD felt sorry for me, so he left me with a handful of his most famous streamers, so I could have a chance to practice up before our next outing. Thanks for inviting me along guys, A most memorable outing. Be safe this summer in AK.
