  1. Your fish must have swallowed Terry's fish.
  2. Due Date
  3. Like Duane, I had to work as well. Glad you got out and was able to fool a couple. Good to hear from you again Brother Dave.
  4. Hello brother Dave. Where are the pics from you and the other brother? Nice brown Scott.
  5. USN 1968 to 1972 Phillipines, Gulf of Tonkin, and Germany communications tech Thanks to all of the other vets
  6. You best stay off the white lightning while trying to cast that thing in the wind, or it may end up as an earring.
  7. Hi Murdoc. There is a picture of bass lake on the mdc website. It appeared to be located where the lower campground area is now.
  8. I think that dam was built in the 40's, and destroyed by flood in the late 50's maybe 60's. I would think that Tim would have a good guess at the time line. Thanks for the pics Murdoc.
  9. Sorry I yelled out that false alarm Ness. Hope you didn't run out and burn your felt soles.
  10. That's real good news, thanks again.
  11. Their sense of smell is very good. They also use their lateral lines to brush against your fly and other floating objects to determine if it is something they want to eat. Have you ever watched a trout rub his side on your fly as it goes by and then turn around and follow it downstream? Some times they will eat it and sometimes they just follow it for a short ways.
  12. Thanks Phil, I did not realize that it would not grow in warm water.
  13. TF85 was making a comparison to streams in close proximity of each other. If indeed beaver has ditymo, then why would it not infect all waters downstream? In regard to Phil's statement about taney, I did not imagine or dream what I reported on taney. You can verify that by checking with Duffy, Darrell, Mike Curry and alot of the other locals that fish it on a daily basis. Ditymo was growing near number three outlet in 06.
  14. Any of you trashing any size 12 simms or chota with felt, I would like to make a standing offer of 5 bucks. If I can buy several pair, then I can have a designated pair for each creek that I fish.
  15. Do you ever watch the natgeo special about the orca's annual migration to seal island? Those trout fry are smelling home waters from the hatchery and will congregate in the outlets. At this time of year, it will almost certainly be a death sentence. The rainbows love those little trout as much as the browns.
  16. It is indeed unfortunate. MDC could have sent those fish to bssp, they would rival or top the size fish being stocked by the hatchery.
  17. I have waited through this entire thread for someone to mention that in "06", ditymo aka rock snot, was present at taney. It was located downstream of the stairs at #3 outlet. The same area that everyone uses to cross over to the rebar and the guantlet. Why was it not spread and why has it disappeared? Did it disappear because of the excessive foot traffic in that area? Was it because of the flooding in 08 and 09, or did it just run it's course and disappear? I am surely not the only person that noticed it there. How about it, any one else see it?
  18. I ran into this guy also. He belonged to the "catch and release club of north america" and had the bumper sticker to prove it. The fish more than likely ended up in the dumpster at the state park.
  19. Ditto Murdoc.
  20. You forgot to dwell on snowmelt and the annual migration of longboats.
  21. HEy Justin. I should have been more specific in my definition. Granted the nfow has some great fish to offer, but no other fishery than taney will produce 20 pound fish in any quantity. You called it "fake" fishing, but the browns on taney are as tuff as they come. I can fool dang near every brown that I find on the current river. Taney's browns are wary and tight lipped, far from being a pushover. Each of us have our special places to fish and taney happens to be mine. When people start talking about closing off a section of water to the wading angler, I kind of take it personally. It would be like not allowing drift boats on your river. Anyway, just wanted to clarify my definition of a fish of a lifetime.
  22. One thing that you all seem to forget about is the fact that taney is not like the white, the norfork, and the little red. Taney is a lake and not a river. Rivers are accessible to wading anglers, whereas taney has a limited area. If you are a wading angler, this time of year is about the only opportunity to catch a trophy fish on taney. Those same trophy fish are available to the boat angler year round. I don't see the brown runs being any different now, than 20 years ago. What I do see is the overall size increases since 1988. Quantity and quality have greatly improved. If you shut down the upper end during the "attempted" spawn, you might as well go ahead and cut our throats and be done with it. You all can return to the trout parks and be satisfied with catching a hundred dinks. Taney is the only place in missouri that a wading angler has an opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime.
  23. You dog,you sure know how to rub it in. The thing that impresses me most, is the fact that you caught those fish on high water. I am about to get healed up enough to try it this coming weekend. Nice fish Duane.
  24. A few years back, I witnessed a guy foul hooking and landing a 7 pound brown at taney. A picture was taken of him and the fish. The following spring, I saw a picture of the same guy and the same fish in north american angler magazine. He was the recipient of a prize package for the largest C and R brown entered the past season. No telling "what" stories will be told about the fish that you witnessed Phil.
  25. It's only tail hooked untill they leave the parking lot. Then it's,"look what I caught".
