  1. I was told that construction of raceways and a new lake or pond was ongoing on the upper end. Sounds like a mishap may have occurred.
  2. I think you all are trying to create a problem that does not exist.
  3. Does anyone out there recall what our natural, native, eco system was like in the 1890's? Maybe angling has been detrimental to our eco system. Surely missouri's trout have been around long enough to fall into the "grandfather clause".
  4. When you can look any direction and see a monarch butterfly, the browns will be there. I do not think that this year will be a banner year for taney. There is a 3 year cycle that I have noticed over the years, and 08 was going to be the banner year. The flood gates and the rise in water temps brought that to a grinding halt. Although I did predicted earlier that it "will be" the banner year for arkansas. That is where I will invest my time this fall. I would venture to say that several 20 to 30 pound browns will come off of Libby Shoals this year. After the run starts on the little red, 10 pound fish won't even raise an eyebrow for the local fishermen. Good luck on your taney venture.
  5. He was extremely lucky that someone was paying attention and knew what to do. Well done Brian!
  6. Please ID yourself. Are you scud 1 or scud 2 ?
  7. In your original post you stated that after cleaning your 4 fish, that you relocated to the dam to continue fishing. One regulation states that you cannot be in possession of a slot restricted rainbow in the restricted zone. I thought maybe that you might want to be aware of that regulation.
  8. Hi drew! How are you? I would venture to say the burgers were better than the fishing.
  9. I keep forgetting that missouri has other fish than trout. Sorry Fly Guy! You better cancel payment on that check.
  10. I suspect that this occurs alot at the trout parks, but is hard to prove with out a physical check of the vehicle and camping site. This situation here would be an agents dream come true, Fly Guy has admitted to it. Just go ahead and put some money in an envelope and send it to MDC.
  11. Congrats to Jim. A very nice fish indeed.
  12. Thanks for the info Brian. I was originally opposed because of the increase in the amount of wading water. Since our disscussion my train of thought has changed. I have witnessed the increase in fishing pressure 10 fold in the past couple of years. With the water levels at 701, every fish that ventures above the big hole is walked on, run off, scared off, and chased around through out the entire length of the upper creek. It is a crying shame that the upper creek has turned into missouri's newest trout park. My thinking now is to add 2 feet of water to the existing 701 and that would at least give the fish a little more sanctuary holding water that could not be trampled through. Minimum flow and santuary could both be accomplished. The increase in depth and increase in current would definately give our fish a little more breathing room.
  13. Hi Brian! You and I had this conversation a couple of years back. I think maybe Darryl and Duffy were there as well. I was one that was opposed to the increase in elevation that MF would add to what we call "water off" at 701. At that time, the 600cfs would increase the " off" elevation to 702.5. You say that you fished during the test. Do you recall the actual elevation?
  14. The snail is called a "Chinese Mystery Snail". It is about the size of a chicken egg. You can google "invasive snails in missouri" and read about the ones found in the niangua river.
  15. My congratulations to your son! I would like to thank him for his military service to our great and free country. A thanks to you and all of the other veterans on this website for their past or present services.
  16. Yes, go to any vendor with your request. A small replacement fee is charged.
  17. With the lower water levels, I am finding a few at bssp. My advice would be wade deeper than deep, and look long and hard in the moss beds.I hooked up with three last week, landed one. And yesterday I hooked up two and got zero. They are harder to find right now, but have seen very little pressure.. Get out there and have a look Bman.
  18. Look at it this way Bman. Chinass trout or mow grass? Thanks for the report.
  19. All of arkansas is a world class fishery. Since IGFA record keeping started for brown trout, only two, "all tackle", world records have come from other than arkansas waters. Norfork, White, and the LIttle Red have all held one or more titles. Joe Brooks had a 1955 record from Chile, and another anglers record in 1971 from Flaming Gorge, or Pit or something like that. You are correct in saying that the Norfork is world class.
  20. IMO the c & r area that is established now, is in the wrong section of the river. Extending those current boundries does not make any sense. If they are concerned with protecting the adult population, the c&r area should be located at the dam. Protect those fall and winter fish on their annual run just like on the White. I realize that the White has a no fish zone and that's not what they are proposing on the Norfork. But, c&r at the dam would certainly make more sense than where it is currently located.
  21. Those are some extremely nice browns being caught and released. Congrats to all of the fishermen. This also helps validate my earlier prediction of a banner year for arkansas. When fish that size start showing up in August, it's a done deal. I am packing my bags for arkansas.
  22. Here is wishing you a great trip Murdoc. I can't help you out on fly patterns, but I know there are many on here who can and will. Good luck to you.
  23. I once encountered this same thing on the niagua river. It turned out to be dry ice that someone had dumped into the river.
  24. Now there is a fishing report with merit. I always enjoy hearing about youngsters being introduced to the life long sport of fishing. Memories that will last a lifetime for you and the kids. And a new memory starts with each additional fishing trip. A hearty "well done" to you, Dylan, Buzz, and KC.
  25. Cold water therapy will help relieve the pain. Hoping you get well soon oneshot.
