  1. It looks like something that the fish would want to "kill" before it started reproducing in the lake.
  2. Finger Lakes SP is just north and Rockbridge SP is just south of the city. Also Dixie Lake, east on route W, has some good catfish. If the town DD was trying to think of was Auxvasse, that is northeast of town. Just north of auxvasse, is Blackmore Lake in Mexico. In the early 80's it was loaded with big bass. That spring I caught several between 6 and 8.5. Lots of 3 to 5 pounders in addition. There are lots of private lakes in your area, loaded with big fish of one kind or another. Good luck.
  3. I guarantee that you will catch more grief from keeping fish over 20, than you ever will for keeping the silver bullits. Some will criticize to the point that you think you must be some kind of criminal. The law is written for you to have the option to keep any fish that fall within the limits. Trout at taney are not stream born. They are put and take or die of old age. If you want the fish for food, then keep it. If your next catch happens to be the largest fish that you have caught, then keep it, it is your choice plus your legal right. IF you choose to release, that is your legal right also. I feel that overpopulation is as harmful as overharvest.
  4. No-Luck just posted on another topic that he wasn't seeing the numbers of fish at Bssp this year. It's hard to see those 3 to 6 inch fish that they are sending to the trout parks.
  5. With all the hype, flair and glare, they put me in mind of a Wrestlemania event.
  6. In the original article concerning mim flow, I don't recall any mention of physical changes either. Supposedly all they needed was to increase the lake level of BS by 5 feet, in order to increase the tailwater level by 16 inches. The 16 inch increase was the mim flow requirement. The money probably is to pay for wasted water resource. I don't know if that money would go to the power producer or who. What I don't understand is if this is an arkansas thing, why the federal tax dollars? I am against mim flow for missouri, but now I have to help arkansas pay for theirs. Also, raising the lake level 5 feet will effect missouri as well.
  7. Rule #1 is know the rules before you walk out the door. Taney's trophy section has limits and restrictions like no other. Not only on fish, but in lure restrictions as well. There is also safety issues to consider when wading or boating a tailwater. Log on to the MDC website for fishing regs on Taney. Good luck.
  8. Phil, I have to agree with Trav, Chief, Brbf, and some of the others. Right now there is way too much "changing hooks on a wiggle wart", "ammo sales", and "how many pounds" to suit me. The old "conservation cafe" was just right. It was fun and entertaining.
  9. Are you saying that you care nothing about catching a large trout? Every time I go out, I'm thinking "lunker". Here is some "lunker patches" trivia. Back in the 60's and early 70's, lunker patches were metal buttons like a campaign button. Bssp gave green buttons, and I think that Montauk had red. Until the mid=70's, the old fall creek boat dock use to give metal lunker buttons for fish caught at Taney. Phil probably remembers that.
  10. Chamois is an etc tied like a rag doll.
  11. I bet the browns make it, thanks for the info.
  12. In one of your posts several months ago, I thought you said that you did not fish in Missouri for trout. How do you know about all of these hotspots? I know for sure that you said that you had never fished Taney. Don't be holding out on us about some of these out of the way spots, DrewObuddyOpal.
  13. Seriously, I had no idea that you had any trout in Kansas. In Missouri, 10 pound rainbows are getting harder to come by every year. I think brownieman was refering to Missouri fish, at least I was. You will definately see more 15 pound browns in one year than you will 10 pound rainbow. I'm not talking caught, I am talking seeing them in the water. Once again I am talking MIssouri. I have only caught one brown over 15 pounds. I have hooked and lost two others that size. All in Missouri. As far as browns being "skittish", you got that right. They are the most difficult fish for me to fool.
  14. Well Murdoc, we got a little sidetracked. As far as your question, yes, I have fished all of the trout parks. I would have guessed that you had also. You are not missing alot at Meramac. Mostly slow water and deep holes. As far as the lunkers go, I have caught at least 10 lunkers at each of the parks with Meramac coming in at the bottom of the list. I have only fished Meramac 10 to 15 times in the past 30 years. Going around to all of the parks in the same year would be a goal to set. Getting a nice fish at each would be a bonus. It is hard for me to get away from taney long enough to fish the trout parks anymore.
  15. My personal preference would be for the rainbow because I only trout fish. 10 pound rainbows are alot more rare than 10 pound browns. You should make that mark higher for the browns. Maybe 20 pounds.
  16. I am interpreting it to be one hook. "constructed on ""a"" single point hook" . Who knows for sure how they will interpret? They won't allow me to pour scent on my fly and use it in zones 1 & 2, but then they also say that would be illegal in zone 3 where scents and baits are allowed to be used otherwise. Until this recent ruling, thats what we did for years in zone 3. The old ruling was that if it was illegal in 1 & 2, then it was legal in 3. As far as synthetic legs, like I said in an earlier post, soft plastic, silicone, and rubber are one and the same. You should try that jig with sili legs.
  17. I said "most trout" will not make 3 pound. You are surely not talking about a trout in Kansas. In the trout parks, gut feeders take on that shape.
  18. Well said! Congrats on the 7 pounder!
  19. C,mon you got to tell us!
  20. They have to eat something! Don't grow very much eating maribou jigs. Are you against people catching large fish?
  21. This program has been in effect at BSSP for several years, at least 15 if I were to guess. I never agreed with the 18 inch part. Very few 18 inchers will weigh 3 pounds, 2.5 if they are healthy.
  22. The lake is 6 feet low right now. From Bridal Cave, going upstream, navigation will be a problem if you are not extremely familiar with LOZ. It is a little early, but that area above BC is most likely where the walleye will be.
  23. Zach, This is the first that I knew about your accident. You certainly have the right mental attitude. I wish you all the best. When you are out there fishing in that personal pontoon, be sure and make a left hand turn before you get to powersite dam. Keep us informed on your future hunting and fishing trips.
  24. The last time that I talked with you, you told me that you were wanting to take Kristina to RB so that she could learn to fish streamers. Maybe she doesn't need as much "learning" as you were thinking. Way to go Kristina! Glad you all had a good day.
