  1. Contact Jerry Rapp, he is an expert in rainbarrel fishing techniques. He addressed this subject just a couple of weeks ago on this very topic.
  2. Back in the days before flourocarbon, nylorfi made an 8x leader that was around .75 to 1 lb test. Lunkers were still abundant at bssp in the early 80's. I got this crazy notion that I would attempt to catch me a lunker on 8x. I spent most of the summer losing somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 lunkers, countless flies, and finally managed to land one fish at 4lb 3oz. The following season I landed one more at 3lb 8oz. If you are looking for a challenge and have an unlimited supply of flies and patience, then go for it. It is a good change of pace. Give us some updates.
  3. Well then just where else do u propose that we go? That rainbarrel reference, usually comes from someone who has gone, not caught anything, and said, this way to easy. If you stay away that will give me one more spot in the barrel.
  4. Makes who money would be the answer. I don't receive an annual dividend check, like u do from the coop. Isn't it our tax dollars building and maintaining these money makers? An annual allowance for bonus checks must be eating up any extra monies.
  5. I agree cwf, loved those stamps. You were getting a piece of art work unlike now, just a printed message.
  6. Thanks cnr, that would be most helpful.
  7. After further investigation, it appears that a Dennis Goldacker drew the 1985 stamp. It shows Al with 84 and I think 87.
  8. I had an idea that you might be Al. I have seen your drawings at the dining room at msp, and also at the home of one of your high school buddies. Thanks for the info guys. I am sure they were done in limited quantities, but am not giving up on finding a set.
  9. Looking to purchase the 1985 trout stamp and printed picture of the stamp. If anyone knows where to locate the set, or would be willing to sell the set, please contact me by personal message. Thanks in advance for any info. Laker67
  10. Sorry to hear of all this thievery, it was rampant on loz a few years back. It was a group working together out of the north shore area. Wrench and bill may recall more details on this. These guys, and gals, were working out of boats, and it happened during the "off" season. They primarily focused on electronics from boats left on lifts, but would take anything of opportunity. This occurred in the late 80's, so electronics and the newest bass rod and reel were desireable. I hope they catch these culprits soon.
  11. I was unable to attend as planned. I had a pre op appointment in st Louis that day and it was 9pm before I got home. I have not heard anything.
  12. The MDC meeting that I spoke of earlier in this topic is scheduled. June 16, 6:30 pm, at the Bennett Room. The Bennett Room is located at the old gaston fly shop building. This is open to the public as of right now.
  13. most likely it feels "wet".

    Pit Bulls

Dogs used to be tied up in the back yard until it was time for them to go hunt something. What ever happened to real dogs?
  15. I will be at the meeting in June. As soon as I find out the date from Corky, I will post. If anyone else hears, let us know.
  16. Guys I don't think that having enough money is the issue. I think they are allotted enough money for operations, but possibly do not manage it well. I personally would not put a dollar in a drop box because I feel like they would just piss it away as well. Raising the price of a tag just gets them off the hook and buys them some breathing room for another season. Next year they would come up with another excuse as to why they spent all of their money and didn't get any thing done.
  17. I will be the first to say it, "you were right", you cranky ole turd.
  18. "hillbilly trout fisherman", and "JR amusement park",has a nice ring to it. It should help to draw the crowds in, kinda like dogpatch usa. The trout talk reporter must get his fishing reports from the same location.
  19. Adds a whole new concept to the word, "trolling motor".
  20. It is beyond my simple mind to even attempt to figure what goes on the past ten years. Rodgers/Mitchell, or Mitchell/Rodgers. Who is leading who around by the nose ring? But I can tell you this for a fact, they have tried real hard to ruin a perfectly great trout stream.
  21. Just returned from bssp and heard some talk from the locals and one local business owner just outside of the park. Seems to be more and more complaints have been aired in regards fish size, numbers of fish, and all of the usual complaints about management. A proposed public meeting at the bennett room in june will address some of these issues. It is rumored that the director of fisheries will be in attendance. In the meantime, an increase in size and daily numbers of fish has been initiated in the past couple of weeks, according to sources near the park. These sources include fishermen and business people. Seems maybe the chopping block may play into the future outcome. I think I will attend that meeting to get a first hand report. The report from fff seems to be right in line with what I learned today.

    Youth Hunt

Congrats to the girls and I am sure they are saying thanks to you for being that special kind of dad.
  23. If it has been awhile then you are one of the lucky ones brother dave. You might still remember the good times.
  24. Not sure if they have sold any tags this month. I have been there twice in the past month, but only to walk and marvel at all of the new" miniature trout" raising facilities. I heard a rumor that they are considering changing the name of bssp to jrsp, and putting up a monument with his bust next to the tu monument.
