My father in law, Claude Lambirth, use to take the scout troop from Sedalia, to the boundry waters almost every year. They had a great time up there. Claude and his father, Harrry, were both , silver beavers.

In response to lee and Chief, green's use to be real common here when I was a kid. The blue's were the ones that were rare. Now blue's are everywhere around the lake. I think the green's are more of a river bird. I see lots on the norfork tailwaters.

Out there running with the big dogs and just couldn't handle it come monday. Seen any green herons up your way? First one I have seen in years around here.

This is what I know about IGFA, they will allow you to have the scales certified but you have to pay for it. You have 60 days to do this. It sounds as if it was disqualified by the use of the A rig, before the scales became an issue.

Well birdwatcher we may have to ask Chief about that omen thing. And Lee, I don't believe I will be sticking my hand in the water to test your theory, but I think that KC may be on to something, with it drinking the water.

Kdan and I were sitting on the dock this morning doing some cat fishing at loz. A green heron, which are rare in our parts, has been hanging out for the past week. We watched as he did his catch fish routine. He flew to the neighbors dock and landed on the hand rail. When we noticed him again he was on the deck acting strange. As we watched, he fell off the dock, into the water, kicked a couple of times, and was stone cold dead. How strange is that? Best we could figure, he got ahold of something that he couldn't swallow or spit back up.

Congrats on that first fly caught trout. I can still remember my first caught 42 years ago. Caught from the high bank hole at bssp on a brown wooly worm.

Thanks Phil. Another thing that was noticeable last night, was the current. Even the short while the water was off, it was certainly running heavier above rebar.

This may explain things, last night around 12:30, they ran what they called one unit and were reporting the lake level at 701.6. Water looked to be about normal height for one unit, Dave Cook, Darryl, and I were all guessing about 704 on the upper end. How does this work Phil, when they drop the level at the other end?

Normal broodstock are released each season in taney and the trout parks, it is the hand raised to record size that are released in the trout parks. And by normal size, I am referring to the 6 to 8 lbers. They would have to survive a few seasons past that to reach 18 or 20 lb. The state record crappie came from a private pond or lake, so I am told, but I do not know that first hand. State record trout are indeed recognized from the trout parks. I am not sure what they would do if one came from Rockbridge.

Hi Mr Ed, what you have in kansas is similiar to our urban trout program where fish will not survive from season to season. I kind of see what you are saying, it would be like them turning out a record fish for the urban program. That would ruffle some neck hackles.

The trout parks have always done this starting with bssp back in 74. Whether intentional or not it happens and they know darn well that this fish will be caught, snagged, or found dead and turned in for a record. That is why I say that it should "rightfully" come from taney. No brood stock that large are released and they have to survive and grow up in the lake to reach record size. The fish that Phil and the young man before him caught, are genuine trophy's, as were the other fish caught last fall by the OAF guys. I mean not to offend any park fishermen because I am a park fisherman as well, and I like having big fish in the creek. And I certainly do not want to offend the young man with the record if the fish was taken in fair chase. I have no reason to believe otherwise.

After reading about Phil,s big catch, and recalling the story about the 17.5 lber caught just a few months ago. I am thinking that taney is on the verge of producing the next 18 lb rainbow. Last fall I witnessed the most large rainbows caught in several years. It reminded me of the 1988 season when 10 to 14 lbers were caught on a daily basis. Last fall, at least 6 fish were caught ranging from 12.5 to 15.5 . These six fish are the ones caught by Bman, Centerpunch, Brandon, Elke, and myself. And these are only the fish that I am aware of, I am sure others were caught from the main lake. When you look at this overall pattern, I am guessing that this might be the year for the state record to " rightfully" come to lake taneycomo. I am going out on the limb and saying that by new license time next year, taney will produce a record rainbow. It may come in the way of an unofficial record from phil or some of the c and r people on this board, but I thinki it will happen.
