  1. Thanks Pete. I hope you get a good variety of water at taney. You need some good rises and falls to keep the trout active. I will be looking forward to a report with pics. Teach that other guy how to use the camera.
  2. Well thank you Drew. As a matter of fact, I started writing one a few months back. I have got about 20 chapters completed at this point. It has several how to details, but mostly it just recounts my many years of fishing mo and ark, and talks about the many fine anglers that I have had the privilege of fishing with over the years. There are truly some world class anglers right here in missouri, and many on this oaf forum. I hope to be completed soon.
  3. There is definately a lot of fish in the creek. Good luck to you.
  4. I woke up early this morning thinking about taney or montauk. The schedule showed generation at taney, so montauk got the nod. Arrived at the park about 9am, the water was about a foot high and blue green in color. Visibility was about 2.5 feet, not the ideal sight fishing conditions. I spent most of the day in the C and R area because of the water conditions. I used Leonards hibinator, olive on olive, to catch three. Two browns and one rainbow. The first brown was 4 pounds, the second 4.5, and the rainbow 3.5. After fooling those three, things got tougher. I took a short coffee break, and returned with 7x and a #12 grey sowbug. From about 11:30 to 3:30, I fooled 5 more lunkers and landed 3. One 4 pound brown, a 4 pound rainbow, and another rainbow about 3.5. The catch and release area has several nice fish. I saw, and fished for 2 that would push 6 pounds, but they thumbed their noses at me and my offerings. It was a great day for fish, weather, and a light crowd to boot. I fished the lower park some, and lots of fish were being caught.
  5. Well glad you got out and about Drew. Thanks for the report. Sometimes that dang old crane creek will send you home talking to yourself. Pm duckydoty and ask about his depth charges. Just might be the ticket on your next trip.
  6. Triploid salmon are sterile. The grass carp, first introduced into alabama, is a native fish of eastern asia. However, there are triploid grass carp available now.
  7. If these are triploid fish, as with the rainbows, the only impact would be gigantic salmon and probably new world records. The fish are sterile and pose no threat to domestic salmon. I am sure a market would still exist for the commerical salmon fishermen. Rainbows are farmed in lake defienbaker and escape to become world records. I wish a few would escape to taneycomo.
  8. Thanks drew. I had forgot about the bristol bay fish. I suppose they lump sea run into the same category as the river run. And the 43 pound fish was recently replaced by a 48 pound fish. Caught in the same lake by the previous record holder's brother.
  9. Missouri's midget rainbow must be quite a let down compared to the ak bows. And while I am thinking of it, isn't that 20 pound fish a record or at least close to it? And for those of you who have not had the pleasure of fishing with Duane, he is truly one of the great fly rodders of our time. We are fortunate to have him on this forum.
  10. That would be "Pete's", underwater blue pipe hole.
  11. Looks like a typical, since 04, bssp opener. Only one guy out of the whole bunch with a fish.
  12. A prayer request for the family of Dan Tucker, age 37, passed away at his home this past week. Dan was a fine sportsman and a great trout angler. He pioneered and mastered the multi fly rig on the upper lake. He was more than eager to share his knowledge with all. He will be missed by us that knew him, and had the pleasure of fishing with him.
  13. Sounds like just another typical night on the water for you guys. By the way there DD, I won't be able to make RR on the 2nd. I will be working in KC next week. HOpe you and MC have a great trip. Give me a report. HOrton and Tiefenuer will be there, so you will have some competion. Good luck.
  14. I definately like the night fishing but my prefered method is a long leader with no indicator. Basically sight fishing with sow bugs and scuds. The thrill of watching a huge trout take your offering is similar to the huge brown chasing the streamer across the current. I prefer to land large fish on light tippet, so streamer fishing is not an option unless I change to 5x. Catching fish exactly the way each and every one of you prefer is the right approach. There is no right or wrong way as far as I am concerned. It has been said before, but I will say it again, the fly fishing members on this forum have a wealth of knowledge and experience that is second to none.
  15. It basically destroys a lot of habitat for the little insects that thrive on the stream bed. Although not illegal in missouri as it is in new mexico, it is considered to be a fish attractor or baiting. Unethical, who is to say? It is more of a personal opinion. I hate to see grown men teaching young children this style of fishing when they could just as easily be showing them casting, drifting, and the proper presentation of a fly. There again, proper, is just an expression. Kind of like the "stream etiquette" topic, it's best not to let the shufflers ruin your day. Everyone has a preferred way to fish, and I guess that should be your option.
  16. Thanks but I am lost. 1/4 mile below TRD would be the big hole. No creeks or building there that I am aware of.
  17. It would be more helpful to know where and what. Is it fall creek?
  18. The 1996 state record brown was caught right there. 26 pounds 13 oz, caught by Rod Cadell from springfield.
  19. Hi Phil. The ice has just gone out this week. The only place we have fished, is a dock just off the main channel osage. 22 to 30 feet. They are somewhat slow, but things are turning around every day. As of right now, we are headed back out to try our luck. Good luck if you and Bill head this way.
  20. Hi Duane. Kdan and I have been catching crappie at loz all week, Crappie fry this weekend.
  21. I live about 20 miles east of oneshot, had one in the yard on monday morning as I was leaving for RR.
  22. I am positive that I witnessed the same trio near outlet one in sept last year. I wonder who taught them that wary approach?
  23. Good for you JD, I just put that # in my phone this morning. Thanks for regulation update as well.
