FishinWrench, You are correct on this. However, the hotspots papermaps and Hot Spots chips are the most accurate I have found for this 15' of water and less dilemma. it gives the channels and where the standing timber and other structures are at. Now even then not every structure, hump, hole and point can be mapped and the reason for this is flooding. Especially in this area. Prime example is Bull Creek on Taneycomo, I grew up fishing there and every spring flood would change the terrain just a lil more each time and it still does. It is impossible to map the ever changing bottom. The past few years we have had torrential spring rains and all that water moves things around, digs holes out and silts others in. The River arms are going to constantly change, but the channels are going to remain in the same area and lay in the same fashion, just the structures in and around it are going to change.

Navman was purchased by Navico in 1990. The Amplitude Scope or A-Scope has been transferred into the Lowrance units and gives real time feedback to whats going on the sonar cone. Each fish has its own behavior and that is what I key in on. If it works then use it

Good Morning everyone. Glad to be back. James and Seth nice to see you guys on here Hope all is well. Now for the Lakemaster vs Navionics question. I can't say which chip is better because each one will excel in different scenarios and situations therefor you should pick the chip based on your needs and the regions you are fishing. With that being said both of these chips offer awesome detail and both chips have their shortcomings. I will explain some of the benifits to these chips and maybe help everyone decide what is best for them. LAKEMASTER The first thing about a lakemaster chip is you need to know your unit, Lowrance or Humminbird. They are sold in seperate formats Lakemaster chips are also designed for the northern part of the u.s. and offer great amounts of detail and you can tweak them for your needs for example depth markers, depth shading, and changing depth for falling and rising lake levels. These chips are starting to expand over the nation but some of the lakes are still not available on here. NAVIONICS These chips are nationwide leaving a few of the smaller lakes uncharted, Many of the lakes are starting to be mapped in whats called HD or 1 ft increments. You also have two levels of chips to choose from; Premium and Platinum Levels. Premium Charts are the most common and really the only chart anyone will need in our region or nationwide, they offer the same level of detail as the platinum chips with 1 ft contour intervals, road beds, creek channels and other structures that one may find in the lake. The Platinum chips offer satellite overlay, 3d views, and panoramic photos of certain areas. Unless you are going to use the feature it is wise to save the $50 dollar difference. Navionics chips offer amazing detail on the mainlake areas of any of the lake that are mapped, you would be hardpressed to find more information. Where these chips start to falter is in the backs of the creek and river arms. They simply havn't been mapped or are not displayed, If you fish the Long Creek Arm above Cricket, Kings River arm Above Viola, and to the backs of Flat Creek and the James you will be left wanting. LEI HOT SPOT MAPS/ LAKE INSIGHT I know these were not brought up in the question but in order to be fair I will include them. These maps are for Lowrance users only, They are nationwide and they do not offer the level of detail across the lake that navionics or lakemaster do. However, they offer detail all the way to the skinny water in all of our creek arms. The Level of detail is sufficient to locate the drops, roll off points, and any other underwater you detail you may want to find. However, with 10 ft intervals its not as detailed as the other maps. On the other hand with 10ft intervals its not nearly as cluttered as the other maps either. CONTOUR XD This is Humminbird's map. It Covers 3000 nationwide lakes and is similar to navionics in design with out the finer details. However Table Rock, Bull Shoals, Stockton, Truman and Beaver are not on it yet I know this is a brief summary of some of the finer points but might help with some questions.

lol sorry for that bry, I read the wrong line.
-
Bry, the fish in your screen shots are stationary, located in tree tops and holding tight... this is not a pattern whites nor shad are known for, both of these fish move and move often. Notice the fish in Dutch's white bass screen shot, they are all moving leaving a slight streak effect. You are looking at either a large school of crappie or bluegill. Notice to the right of the tree some look to be nosed upwards even? The crappie I have been catching are down around that depth but will only take a small crappie jig held in their face for a period of time. I haven't had much success with moving baits, this could explain why they didn't bite?
-
Bry, we must have posted about the same time. What electronics brand do you have currently?

http://www.tackletour.com/reviewcuradociticapreview09.html That should help some... Personally I own both the curado 200E7 and the Citica The reels are of the same size and both are equally smooth. I have found that the 7.1 speed in the curado, makes it really easy to overpower certain baits. I use it mainly for burning blades. The citica is more versatile with its 6.3 speed. I havn't really noticed any slop in the citicas spool, it casts like a dream and is silky smooth in its operation. Living up to the shimano name in my opinion. Personally I like the 6.3 speed and will be adding more citicas to my collection. The choice is yours to make and only you can make that decision. I am a shimano guy and all of their reels are ok by me. I really would like to get my hands on a core and a calais though

Hey Now boys... I know of a chevy with over 300 K on it but I also know of some fords in the family with over 300 k on them.... Given both companies have their lemons. both are gas engines by the way.... in the diesels dodge has us all beat with the cummins For those of you who like GM.... Ford sales outperform all other truck manufacturers nearly every year.... and I highly doubt if so many people are having trouble with their fords that they would go and buy another one after one or two proved to be lemons Just another age old argument that will never be solved

We are fortunate to have one heck of a fishery but I dunno about spoiled, that might be a bit of a stretch Definately fortunate to have such a wonderful fishery

No, Im from right here and I didn't say I didn't have any nice fish That smallie was a lil over 3lbs just a nice fish and definately a hard fighter but not like the 4 and 5 lbers that are in the Rock Whack' em, I am making football heads and a flippin style head... and your right there is nothing like catching fish on your own jigs
-
Hey guys and gals, I managed to make it out saturday mornin for some much needed time on the water. I set out with two goals in mind... 1.) to get a new graph set up and zoned in 2.) to try out my homemade jigs and skirts I launched out of mill creek and pulled up on a spot to tune in the new graph.... Looked out deep and lucked out. I sat right on top of a school of KY's while I tuned the graph and caught three with one being a keeper. These fish were over 45ft running around 35ft. I messed around with the drop shot and a spoon for about 30 minutes playing with the graph mostly. I left these deep fish biting and went on the hunt for jig fish. The fish I found with the jig were anywhere from 10ft out to about 16ft and I did throw a wiggle wart for a lil while with no luck, but I didn't try real hard either . I made a couple different styles and colors and switched em up quite a bit just seeing if they would perform like I hoped they would. I have to say I was pretty impressed with myself. I didn't have huge numbers or a big fish and I called it in before noon, but I did have a great day on the lake. I ended up with 8 fish total and 5 of them being keepers and they weighed around 13.5lbs. its not much info but I hope it helps

Bill, I know of tourneys on this pond that 13lbs won.... when this pond gets tough it gets real tough and with a saavy angler such as yourself having as much trouble as you say you are, I am thinking the derby weights this weekend will be way down.... my guess is 15lbs will take top honors, they will get lucky and catch that big black as a kicker, the rest of the field is going to have keepers and thats about it. Just my two cents I know you are a force to be reckoned with in any derby that you fish, and I wish I could see you in it this weekend. You know as well as I do, tomorrow is another day and what worked today can change 180 degrees tomorrow... anyways, good luck to you I only made it out for about an hour today... 11-12, I just wanted to go play around with the gear and catch a fish or two just to kick up the confidence a lil, Off of the back of the boat I won't know what were doing until tomorrow. But I did end up with 5 keeper SJ"S in that hour, two on one location and three off of docks, but they were just that, KEEPERS...my guess between 10 and 11lbs Tight lines, and well see you on the water

very well said... now if we could all just piggy back our way through life not having to use any energy to get the best things.... Life would be grand wouldn't it? Talk about being Lazy.. hum drum, and leading an unsatisfying life. Being fed from a silver spoon sounds a bit lame and unexciting to me. Now... I am with you Eric, what would these people be called.... its right there on the tip of my tongue PARASITE TO SOCIETY? maybe...? that might a bit harsh but the point is made. surely there is something better?

I ran into Don at the ramp and we got to talking and when he told me about this I was taken aback. Don, it was nice to finally meet you, and I am sure we could have gone on and on... but now this topic has struck a chord... The things that stick out most in societies mind is the bad, the negative aspects of anything. Just look at the media. Now as far as fishing, 90% of people fishing are friendly and pleasant to talk to. They are more than willing to share whats been going on for them. This pertains to ALL fisherman: Guide, pro, or everyday joe. I read this topic and have held my tongue, but long enough. I fish as a co-angler in two tournament circuits and have met some of the greatest guys you could ever ask to meet in the tournament field. Now with anything there is always a few guys who don't act accordingly. This is what gets us into trouble, its that one person who cut us off, that one person who ran up only to see someone on "their" spot and turns around with arms up and throwing a wake, that one person who tells us were number one for no reason. This behavior is unacceptable and unwarranted. Thankfully, I have not fished with one of these people. I have had a rather pleasant experience fishing from the back of the boat. but you do see behavior from other boats that just rubs you the wrong way. I can understand completely where the guides are coming from as well... I am not a guide, but working towards becoming one. I know several of the guys on this forum and several more who are guides but not on this forum. And to have someone stealing your patterns really is theft. Guiding is a business.. it may be a dream job for some, but regardless it is a JOB. Like Bill, Don, and many others will tell you, you have to keep your clients on fish. The guides are providing a service to their clients. The only problem here.. this service is ever changing, the patterns change, the target moves, adversity happens. This is probably one of the most adverse careers someone could choose, and to throw in someone looking for a freeby only adds to the frustration. When a guide boat is being followed it is as though you are stealing and cheating all at the same time. You are cheating yourself out of the thrill of the chase. you are cheating the guide out of all the time and effort they have invested. You are stealing the fun and enjoyment from a paying client. You are stealing from the guides service. Personally speaking if you ask a guide how they are catching there fish... you will get all the information you need... if you know how to use it... Just look at this forum... Bill Babler, Eric ( Focused Fishing), Chris Tetric, Don House, these are just a few of the guides... rps, Pour Dennis, Jeremy Rasnick, motoman, Myself.. these are a few of the regulars who post... We all give information that can be used to help you catch fish, without giving away our spots. If you find the right kind of bank or structure you will catch fish. There is no need to chase a guide boat, or wrapped boat all around the lake. 9 times out of 10 these guys are fishing their style and catching fish how they know how... Guides and Pros alike are more than happy to share basic information and tips and tricks... talk fishing with any one of these guys and you will see. These really are the nicest bunch of people you could ever meet. I would argue that fishing would be a heck of alot tougher than it already is if it werent for the pro's and guides... then nobody would have a thing to go on... atleast they give us a starting point to put our own pattern together. I

Champ Well Said, I couldn't agree more. Like you, i read all the information I could on this forum before that derby and spent only a couple of days prefishing. As a co-angler I had a good draw and got to fish my style... I had an 11th place showing for my efforts. These guys who are asking for free information obviously are to lazy to try and figure out what it takes... They are most likely not willing to try something new for risk of failure. I would tell them to invest in a new humminbird fish finder and learn to use it.

Tom, good luck to your son and his team. Maybe I'll catch ya on the Rock in August.

Sounds like you had a pretty good day out there. Are you going to be at truman this weekend, next weekend, or both?
