  1. Finished "Wet Flies" by Dave Hughes. Great book on the history of wet flies and techniques used to fish them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0811718689?ie=UTF8&tag=davhugflyfis-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0811718689 On to "Flyfishing: The North Country Tradition" by Leslie Magee. This is a great book on the history of fly fishing in Great Britain. Very interesting ho the names and tying recipes have not changed much. http://www.kensmithpublishing.com/fly_fishing.htm
  2. I use a Rio Streamer Tip DC Sink Tip line for most of my smallie stuff. It is Type 3 sinking welded to a normal fly line. http://www.rioproducts.com/product.php?recKey=19
  3. Actually the White River starts south of Fayetteville in the Boston Mountains and runs over to the Mississippi. Beaver Taiwlaters, Taneycomo, Bull Shoals Tailwaters are all part of the White River. The COE Campground below Beaver Dam is very nice and is within walking distance to the Tailwaters. Tailwaters has a good population of rainbow trout. Kings River is great for smallies and is just East of Eureka. We have got a ton of rain, so fishing opportunities may be sketchy w/o a boat on the Tailwaters. Kings might be too high for wading or floating, but if rain lays off a bit, it should lower a bit and be in good shape. Here is a website about the COE campground. It is about 4 miles west of Eureka. http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?subTabIndex=0&&contractCode=nrso&parkCode=dam7
  4. Meant to post this over the weekend but got distracted. The road to the Grandview access was washed out very bad with the last few rains. Riverside Resort is not shuttling down there until further notice. So the Hwy62 to Grandview is not possible unless there you have Bigfoot to get down the road.
  5. Table Rock has risen quite a bit, so I would assume Beaver generation will hold off a bit while the lower lakes unload.
  6. Does Marsha know about this??? Oh wait.....thats your son's girlfriend......
  7. Great looking boat. Should get you about anywhere you want and back again. Those Alumacraft bottoms are indestrucatble.
  8. As of two weeks ago, the spawn had not started. Fish were moving, but no visible nests. Havent been up there since, so it could have slammed through. I am afraid with the cooler nights it will be sporatic, so you may find fish at different stages.
  9. Floated from Banes Farm(private access) to Hwy 62 bridge last Saturday. water was at about 3.4ft, which is a good level fro floating. Only had to get out of the drift boat three times to drag. Males were fairly active, but females were very lathargic and holding tight to the beds. Lots of bait fish in the water and a good number of gar. Drifted over one gar that had to go about 6'. He was almost as long as my oars. Used a motoroil colored jig 2.5" length. Anything larger and they would spook. Saw lots of roe and was able to approach a few nests from the bank and see the hatchlings. Was odd seeing different stages of the spawn in one stretch of river. All in all a good day. Not alot of size, but plenty of color.
  10. Great report GD. Looks like a very scenic stretch. I am not super familiar with the JFR, but alot of guys down here swear they catch trout on the warm water stuff. Buffalo and Crooked Creek for sure....but not the Kings. I am assuming most people are mistaking a darter(probably cardinal darter) for a trout. They tend to color up alot during the spawn. Just a little useless info.
  11. Married in over your head in looks and fishing it seems to me...... Great looking fish brother. I promise I wont bring it up ever.........
  12. I would stop by Ozark or Pruitt. You will be driving right past them, so you wont have to search very hard. Water is fairly low on the uppersection right now, so canoe traffic will be non-existant. Stop in at the Minnenite bakery in Harrison for some of the best homemade goodies around.

  14. Welcome from NW Ark James. There are alot of great guys and tons of info here.
  15. Jasper is pretty centrally located, so there are plenty of places. How far are you wanting to drive and which way will you be coming into Jasper from? If you are coming in from Harrison, you will pass Ozark, and Pruitt offer easy bank fishing. If you feel like a great drive, head towards Ponca and you will pass Kyles Landing, Steel Creek, and then cross the bridge at Ponca. Have a great time. The Buffalo this time of year is awesome.
  16. They are drawing down the lake for the spring season. Should be done May 15th per the plan....but all tha is weather dependent. On the spawning fish.....I have been reminded over and over....the COE is not in the business of anything fishing related. Hence them not holding to the prescribed DO on some of the tailwaters......diff problem for a diff time.
  17. There is a new website up with the USGS information for the river. This will make interpreting the readings on the guages an awful lot easier. Will still be good to know exactly how low is too low. http://ar.water.usgs.gov/buffaloriver/
  18. So if I use one of the work trucks to haul the boat....can I play???
  19. Great fish Chance!!
  20. LOTS of kayaking waters. There are also lots of bass boats who really dont care that you are there. Hickory Creek is good. Lots of coves off the main lake. Monte Ne is good as well. Pretty heavily traveled, but you can stay out of the traffic. Prairie Creek has some good coves, but also gets lots of traffic Dam Site Ramp has some good coves in it, but the wind can crank if your out in the middle. Explore that WM map. It is your best resource. You can use it and google earth to get an idea about structure and access. Welcome to Nw Ark as well. There are lots of good places to paddle on the lake. Also the Kings within a decent drive. Drop me a line and we can explore Lake Atalanta or Beaver. I need to run to motor on the boat.
  21. Lake Atalanta is a no wake lake. I imagine besides some odd looks from people, kayaking and fishing shouldn't be a problem. I think the tackle shop there rents canoes anyhow. The winter trout stocking doesn't help the bass population a while lot. Once upon a time there were some great large mouth in there, but they have long since been fished out by the locals. There is alot of planning going on right now to revitalize the area and get the fishery back up to par. In fact the AGFC is looking into removing it from the winter stocking to help the bass population. Fished it with Flip Putthoff from the Rogers Paper and had very little luck. Definately curious if you have any more luck than we did. It isnt far from the house. I need to get out there and explore it a little closer.
  22. The algae is everywhere. We need some lower water to kill it out. This algae seems to flourish in high water/high cfs environments. There is a good deal of it on the Beaver Taiwlaters, but with lwoer water, it is starting to clear a bit.
  23. Its the same expression I get when after they tell me there are no trout in this water, I tell them I hope not, I am fishing for bass.
  24. I would be up for either. A day trip might be a bit easier. Definately gonna use the drift boat. Awful funny to watch peoples expression when you row by.
  25. Hoping to get that way some time soon Bobber. We need to hook up and fish again.
